Welcome to Lotus East-​West Medical Center, Santa Monica’s first holistic, primary care medical center to achieve green business certification. Providing quality time and care within a peaceful setting sets this medical center apart from the high volume, fast-​paced standard medical model. Our carefully selected healthcare professionals specialize in acupuncture and Oriental medicine, naturopathic medicine, allopathic medicine (medical doctors), psychotherapy, and health and wellness consulting.

In addition to basic care, and support of good health, some of our practitioners have specialized training in… Women’s Health, Men’s Health, Pain Management and Orthopedics, Internal Medicine, Anxiety /​Stress Management, Digestive Health, Reproductive Health (i.e. fertility enhancement treatment, IVF adjunct therapy, prenatal health, moving baby from breech to head-​down position, acupressure childbirth, postpartum recovery, peri/​post menopause), Dermatology, and Preventative Medicine.

Lotus East-​West Medical Center is an environmentally friendly, holistic, primary care medical center. Our intention of healing goes beyond treating a simple symptom. We take extra time and care in working with our patients in order to treat the root of their health concerns in addition to being mindful of our center and the planet we live in.

You can choose which modality you would like for your primary caring — acupuncture and Oriental medicine (traditional Chinese medicine), naturopathic medicine or contemporary biomedicine (i.e. modern western medicine — medical and osteopathic doctors). We also offer psychotherapy and health /​wellness consulting.

As the first holistic primary care center to be a certified green business, we take pride in making greener choices from the non-​existence of formaldehyde in our bamboo floors to the organic cotton in the pillowcases, because to strive for better health, we must also take care of our home — this planet earth.

Dr. Armm is a board-​certified Acupuncturist and Chinese Medicinal Herbalist both in the state of California and nationally. He is among fewer than fifty practitioners nationally to have completed a first of its kind clinical Doctorate in Orthopedics, Pain Management and Integrative Medicine. In addition to Dr. Armm’s practice with and founding Lotus East-​West Medical Center, he teaches Oriental medicine and meditation to the master level students at Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine.

This is a review for Dr. Marier. I visited her with the only interest to receive homeopathic treatment. I knew exactly what I needed because it helped me before and I wanted to stick with the same plan. She ended up charging me for the appointment $ 500 just to discuss my diet, to convince me that I needed a new lifestyle, and to sell me very expensive supplements. She insisted on a second appointment which resulted in another $ 500 and the same conversation. At the end of it I realized that I will never receive any homeopathic treatment, and she is simply a money drainer from innocent people like me.

I have been fortunate to have received many treatments from different practitioners here– from acupuncture and massage to cranial sacral therapy. Everyone is an expert in their field and also very kind and professional. It’s a place to come for true, deep healing. The practitioners work together to ensure their patients can heal on many different levels. One of the best places to go in LA for true holistic/​integrative health.

Their massage therapist, Liliya, is amazing. She is warm and makes you very comfortable.
She is also so strong! I have neck, back and shoulder problems from working at a computer a lot, and she has been really helpful. I’ve been her client for a while, and I adore her.
This space is lovely as well. Great tea selection and a terrific vibe.

I really appreciate Richard Hsu’s acupuncture. My right knee is feeling 99.9% healed. I have been going once a week for about a month. It is my intention to continue for another month. I also appreciate Dori’s kindness and caring. She is at the front desk and her warmth assists with creating the healing atmosphere.

I have been seeing Joseph Clarke for acupuncture treatments for a year now and I can say with certainty and deep appreciation that he is the most gifted healer I have ever met. I’ve been using acupuncture as my primary form of healthcare since 2006 and I’ve learned that consistency is key to seeing results. Traditional Chinese Medicine works *with* the body’s own healing energy so results are profound and lasting. I make sure to tell friends who are new to acupuncture to not expect the quick, superficial fixes (and usually temporary) they are accustomed to in Western medicine. I suggest they give it at least three visits to see results. That said, with Joe I saw changes immediately. I’d seen other wonderful practitioners for insomnia and while their treatments helped, no one went to the root of the issue like Joe. He has a vast tool-​kit. He wastes no time. And it will not come as a surprise to anyone who has had even one treatment with him that he has a background in Psychology too. Again, he is a healer in the truest sense of the word.
Additionally, Joe infuses his practice with great compassion and presence. I always feel more present just by sharing the same space. His treatments are never predictable — he always chooses what you need at that moment. You can also count on him to do research on your condition which he then incorporates into your next treatment. This is patient-​centered care at its best.
On a practical note, I am glad that they have parking in the back since parking in this area can be crazy.

Dr. Marier is a true healer in every sense of the word. She is present when she speaks to you, whether it is in person, over the phone or through email. She is very polite, warm and compassionate. I felt really cared for, in regards to my well-​being.
I came to her through a referral from a women’s clinic. I was having major hormonal imbalances and was barely functioning in my fast-​paced life. I’m not quite at the age of menopause but I am on my way.
She had me get blood tests and was very gentle with me (I abhor needles).
And together we discovered what vitamins, foods and naturopathic remedies helped and supported me. I also used sublingual Homeopathy pills that totally worked for me.
I completely changed my diet and exercise regiment with her support and I was able to do so because I felt supported completely.
After 1 month, I was feeling better. Then as the months went by, I was getting stronger– both physically and emotionally. It took about 6 months for me to get back to functioning at 100 percent, and she was there for me all the way.
I highly recommend her to any women who need any sort of hormonal support. I think she also works with women wanting to get pregnant (that’s not me).

The Lotus East-​West Medical Center was my first naturopathy experience. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but booked an appointment after hearing a friend rave about the center. After being a patient of Dr. Marier’s for eight months, I’ll never go back to a regular general practitioner.
From the moment I stepped into the center, I knew this was a different kind of medical experience. The waiting room exudes serenity, from a small fountain to ample wellness magazines to complimentary water and tea. It set the stage for my visit with Dr. Marier.
Dr. Marier is unlike any doctor I’ve ever seen. She takes the time to get to know the full picture of you and your life; the homeopathic intake was one of the most
comprehensive intakes I’ve ever experienced with a medical professional. During every visit, Dr. Marier gently guides me through my symptoms and concerns, offering reassurance and potential remedies every step of the way. I leave every appointment feeling heard and seen by a competent professional.
Thanks to the naturopathic and homeopathic treatment Dr. Marier recommended for me, my symptoms have completely subsided. My energy levels have increased, and incredibly, I feel more like myself. I had no idea homeopathic remedies could be so powerful and comprehensive. The best part about the experience (aside from Dr. Marier herself) is that I felt my body healing itself; she treats the root causes instead of simply attacking the symptoms with unnecessary medication. I went to see Dr. Vahdat when i was extremely sick, with palpitations. I had seen other doctors without a clear diagnosis. Within a day Dr. Vahdat diagnosed me with thyroid disease and had me on the right track. She has also successfully treated my back and neck pain with acupuncture and without needing medications (which is what all the others gave me). She is a great listener, well educated and very nice. It’s great to have a doctor who is skilled in both eastern and western medicine. She is awesome!

I’ve been seeing Dr. Armm on and off for a few years now. He is great. My wife sees him too. As a healthcare provider myself, I don’t think you can expect much more from a doctor. He is caring, compassionate, and extremely professional.
Acupuncture is a unique approach to health and you want someone who knows their stuff. Dr. Armm is the guy.
They have a few providers in that office, most of whom I don’t know, but my bet is that they are all up to par with Dr. Armm (owner/​director), so I wouldn’t hesitate to see anyone in that office.

It’s pricey, but it’s worth it to me. I see Won mi Lauren Kim after having seen several other Asian acupuncturists who invariably turned judgmental or would start to lecture me as if they were my mom. Won mi is very warm & caring with an amazing intuitive feel for what points need needles (ha ha). I always feel enveloped in a warm, cozy aura after a session with her. She’s been crucial to my recovery after my last two marathons.

What is great about this place? It’s located in a cheesy old strip mall on a sidewalk and it’s super tiny inside. I came here for the good reviews on Unilocal despite it being on the expensive side. I came here a handful of times and I have to say how unhappy I was due to the following reasons.
1. The doctor did not seem very knowledgeable — when I asked questions about things her response was, «I’ve never heard of that but I’ll look into it.»
2. She recommended all kinds of vitamins which I had to buy from them with jacked up prices. At one point I had to tell her that I had many of the vitamins already at home (bought from Trader Joes for a fraction of the cost). Which brings me to #3…
3. I SPECIFICALLY emailed the doctor and told her I was on a TIGHT budget and knowing that follow ups range from $ 90 — $ 150, she charged me the full $ 150 for some acupuncture (w/​o needles) that I NEVER ASKED FOR AND SHE NEVER BOTHERED TO TELL ME HOW MUCH IT COSTS. I felt that was very sneaky, trying to get the most out of me w/​o even bothering to explain to me that it costs extra when I DIDN’T even want it or ASK for it in the first place and this is AFTER I said I was on a tight budget. Plus all that extra time spent on acupuncture made me late for work.
4. Money spent was just not worth it. $ 250 for initial visit. $ 150 for follow ups, although sometimes it was $ 90 for 30 minutes.
5. They (doctor & office people) are very slow to get back to you via email unless it’s to reschedule/​schedule an appointment. I had to email twice for a receipt for my last credit card payment, which they have yet to respond.
Bottom line, after doing a ton of research myself online, I have learned a lot more than I did after spending almost $ 700 at Lotus!
