Sanford Meisner said, «Acting is living truthfully under imaginary circumstances».
The Paul Sorvino Meisner Intensive Acting Studio is dedicated to providing its students with the personal time and attention they require in order to grasp each step of Sanford Meisner’s technique in an intensive class atmosphere.
Class sizes are limited to small groups to ensure optimal attention. It is our goal to train actors to use a sense of truth, to work off the other actor impulsively and instinctually, and above all to use imagination.
Headed by Meisner teacher Lawrence Dwyer and Master teacher Paul Sorvino, the studio will bring you through Meisner’s step-by-step technique in a relatively short period of time. The first six week period will be dedicated to opening up the actor, freeing the actor from on-the-spot thinking without preconceived results.
These precepts will be introduced by improvisational exercises that gradually become more challenging. By the end of the first six week period, students will be applying the exercises of the Meisner technique to text and script, at which point, students will have an opportunity to demonstrate their new-found skills in a fully staged scene from a known, published work.
The first two semesters will be dedicated to tuning up the actor’s «instrument». Each six week period will end with a Master class given by Mr. Sorvino.
