Sutter Hospice Thrift Store

Som wore try good stuff sometimes for a good price, other times there is nothing at all. Just gotta hit a good day.

First off — this review is for the ROHNERT PARK store, NOT the Santa Rosa store. The Santa Rosa store, while generally overpriced for a «thrift» store, is usually better staffed, and MUCH friendlier. I’ve never had a negative experience there. THIS review is for the Rohnert Park store, which I’ve been to 3 times now and I’m giving up on, they are just Rude. And Mean. I LOVE hospice and I want to support them, I assume this place runs on volunteers but they need to pay attention to their staff, at least the ones on the floor.
I can say this because I’m 5 minutes away from being «old» myself — in general the cashiers here are «senior» ladies… and yeah, they’ve never been that nice. Today I found a few things & wanted to put them aside while I continued to shop. I asked the woman behind the counter if/​where I could put my items; I was standing where I could step behind the counter to place them as it didn’t make sense to me to place them on the main counter where they have items displayed. She didn’t walk over to me, from the register she basically BARKED at me to step on the CUSTOMER side of the counter and just place them there. I felt like a child, could she at least muster the smallest smile? Apparently not. I found a few more things and when I brought them up to the register she practically glared at me — as she gave me my change there was no «thank you» or smile or ANYTHING. Not cool. I bagged the unbreakable items and awkwardly found a way to hold the breakable things; when I was done she very un-​enthusiastically asked if I wanted some newspaper to wrap my breakables. Really?
I know, this is a THRIFT STORE, not Nordstroms. But is that a reason to not expect SOME kind of service, even a smile? Again I assume they’re probably volunteers, but is that an excuse? I mean they WANT to sell things, to make money for Sutter Health, right? I don’t know… but I do know that I’m not bothering with this location anymore… if you work in a retail environment with the public, basic courtesy, let alone basic kindness, goes a long way.

Methinks that the system of pricing is closer to upscale consignment… and the items they have on the floor are almost always damaged in some way. Cat clawed fake leather chair (ergo, no way to reupholster) for $ 100…chipped pottery mixing bowls for more than it would cost to buy new ones, and dollar store items reselling for $ 3. While the money is well used, the idea of «thrift» went out the window about two years ago, and the pricing team should rethink the overall principles of this «non-​profit.» I found better junk at the dump last week, and it was free.

I am writing about the two Sutter Hospice Thrift stores I have shopped at in Santa Rosa. One is this one on Lewis Road, which is bigger and has more parking and generally more shoppers. The other is the newer location at 3209 Cleveland Ave, next to Trader Joe’s. TJs has a huge, generally filled parking lot. The thrift store has just one row of parking spaces on the south side of their building, with one of them always taken up by their donation pickup box truck, and one lined out for donors who are dropping donations off at the store.
The Cleveland store has upgraded their dressing room — no longer is it a stall with a piece of fabric hanging from a pole (which one of the reviewers wrote about). It is now a slightly larger space with an actual wooden door that closes securely, so no more «accidental» peeking by men slow to realize they are looking not at am empty dressing room but a half nekkid woman.
While the size of the area devoted to clothing at the Cleveland location is much smaller than on Lewis, the clothing is much better organized (color and some attempt to keep sizing running from small to XL, though customers and hurried restocking the racks sometimes disrupts the size order) and not as crammed together as on Lewis. OTOH, Lewis has better lighting inside so it is easier to see color and details, while Cleveland is a bit dim, especially on an overcast rainy day.
Personally I’ve had better luck finding things at Cleveland than I have at Lewis. I have also found the volunteers staffing Cleveland to be quite nice and helpful. Had only one negative experience at the Lewis location, with a male volunteer who stared a little too long at me.
As commented on by others, pricing seems a little too wildly varied at Lewis, less so at Cleveland.

My local thrift store. Some great finds. Some junk. Always an interesting experience.

This is a terrific store with great prices. I’ve only had positive experience with the people working there. They volunteer their time to an excellent cause. The thrift shop also picks up (their other store) donations. I love buying things at Sutter Thrift because I feel that I’m helping those who depend on hospice care. I’m kind of stunned that someone would have given this place one-​star.

Sutter Hospice Thrift was another treasure hunt for books. not much into buying clothes these days. today was 50% off. didn’t check to see on what.

I pop into this place periodically because it’s near my house and I usually find something good. I agree with past reviews that pricing is random and tends to not reflect the actual value of the item. Sometimes that’s good, other times not so much.
I’d have given this place four stars but the customer service is bizarre. At first I thought it was just the employees I was running into to, but it has happened consistently enough that I’m thinking there’s a company policy around selecting the most strange and ill suited people for customer service. (I even had one guy tell me that he hoped I had a good job because i was spending so much money… I spent a little over $ 40) Weird as they are, you do have to give them credit for volunteering their time.
If you’re looking to find some neat things, give this place a try… But don’t expect a warm or fuzzy welcome and try to stay out of the staff’s way.

The pricing here can be rather amusing; it’s interesting to think what the management perceives as valuable: D However, it does have one of the best selections of brand/​higher end used clothes in town! I never leave empty handed, and the staff is usually pretty nice (you get what you give with volunteers… so be nice!)

Went in here several times and honestly had about it with the staff. They treated me terrible! it’s a hit or miss and one of the staff people even had the nerve to ask why is someone like me shopping in a place like that?! Everything I wear is from a thrift store rack, platos closet or a sales rack no more than 10 $ at a store. I’m not shopping here anymore.

WOAH! Way overpriced. Clothing is not clean or nice! Furniture too expensive! UGH! I won’t be back!

It’s a clean thrift store by my standards.
However, it’s kind of hard looking for stuff, as nothing is by size and just kind of thrown onto racks.
A real downside is the dressing room. Notice it’s not plural!!! And I can’t really call a bar with a sliding curtain on it a dressing room! And for the man who peeked at me ½ naked… I hope you got your thrill for the day… It took you long enough to close the damn curtain!!! Seriously… did you not see my feet… Or all the clothes that I had hanging on the hooks outside the curtain??? Really?
I got a good deal on a pair of like-​new capri pants (the yellow tags were ½ off that day! YEAH FOR ME!) and paid only $ 2.25. I got a nice J Jill linen blouse was $ 6. Not bad…
The parking lot kind of sucks. There seems to be only 8 spaces near the entrance and the other parking lot belongs to Trader Joe’s???
All in All, I can say I will go back.

Picked up a fashion magazine for $ 0.50 and a Dior Beauty bag for $ 1.00. They had a super cool stove from the 1930’s that was fun to look at.

Been here twice, and both times I left with winners!!!
First time, I found a Jones New York heavy winter jacket with the tags still on (Macy’s, $ 360). Unfortunately, it was missing a superficial button, so I took the reasonably prices ($ 12) coat the supervisor, she came back with $ 3, which I took to be $ 3 off. Nope she retorted, $ 3, and it’s yours. DEAL!!!
The second time, I left with a gorgeous Burberry wool scarf (the tan with grey, $ 4), and a geometrically shaped wine rack bade of stainless steel, $ 6.
The only downsides are that I’ve always run into people who invade my personal space, and are super interested in what I’m doing there, as well as the parking lot is a madhouse, and hard to navigate.
All in all, fabulous deals, great products, and super friendly staff.

This place is hit or miss. You’ll never know what you’ll find. Anytime I need furniture, i check this place out. It’s a bit crowded but beats the closet competition in price. The clothing selection however isn’t anything to get excited about. It’s run by volunteers so customer service is a bit lacking. However, this place stays on my thrift store route due to quality and price of furniture alone.

I’ve found a few treasures here over the years, but the majority of clothes are worn out Old Navy and Merona stuff. If you are lucky enough to find a semi-​stylish piece, check for stains because these clothes are definitely not washed or pre-​screened for cleanliness. And that signature thrift store smell is guaranteed. Comes with the territory, though.
It seems like they used to get better stuff, but recently it’s become more like a Goodwill. I wish they were more selective like the good ol’ days. I sitll stop by once in a while and hope the good stuff hasn’t been picked over yet…

For people who need clothes that don’t cost a lot, this is the place to go. Sometimes you might score a table and chairs or a couch. They have everything from glassware to books. This store defiantly fills a need in the community.
