After going through at least 4 other contractors we chose Tarpy because they came with no BS attached. The gentleman showed up, met with my wife, didn’t try any slick talking weasel stuff and got right to business about what we would need. Just for reference the bids from the other 3 contractors went from as high as $ 6,800 to the lowest (non-​Tarpy company) of $ 5,600. Tarpy came in at around $ 3,800. We also got a much bigger A/​C unit and they knocked the installation out in one day. I have already referred Tarpy to my entire family. It does not get any better than this company for HVAC. Extremely professional. I am still impressed with the work they did and the price we received.

I selected Tarpy Heating and Air for the supply of my home air conditioning system after having interviewed six companies. No doubt all of the companies would have done a credible job but Tarpy edged them out based on thoroughness of the estimate, prompt response to all requests, no up-​selling and a real strong sense that the sales guy, Tommy Gerber, was a straight shooter, listened to my requirements and delivered the goods. Although price was a factor, it was not the deciding one since Tommy directed me to the HERO Program which provides financing with payments made with your property taxes (the HERO Program process was simple, efficient and painless and the staff were remarkable).
Scheduling was on target and the two main technicians, Joshua and Jeff, the foreman Chad and another tech, «Fish» were all fantastic. They were on time, cleaned up after themselves on a daily basis, worked real hard (stayed until seven one night to push the job along) and I trusted them. There was a minor mishap which I would never have known about but the crew immediately told me about it even though they thought it might be a big problem.
Throughout the job Tommy would come and check on the progress and to make sure that I was satisfied and followed up in the end by providing me a list of the equipment with manufacturers name, model and serial number plus the warranties for material and service/​labor.
I would definitely recommend that you check out Tarpy Heating and Air. I could not have asked for a better experience.

Superior service solves nasty situation when I came home from working all day to find a flood. Called Tarpy Plumbing at 7 PM left a message and was called back immediately with a super estimate and early next-​day installation one-​hour window appointment. Technicians arrived at the beginning of the appointment window, didn’t complain about my cluttered garage, patiently answered any questions I had and finished the job in the time frame predicted. Quick, courteous and professional solution to total nightmare.

The plumbing contractor arrived on time and drained and inspected our water heater. He went over everything he did and gave suggestions. We have a water softener and as a result rust accumulates at the bottom of the tank, he suggested cleaning it every 6 months. Our heater is 6 yrs old and he said we should consider replacing in another year or two in order to prevent any problems. He suggested that when the water heater is replaced we purchase a pan to collect water in case there is leak. We were very happy with the work that was done. When the time comes we will contact Tarpy plumbing to replace our water heater.

I am really grateful because our downstairs toilet was leaking water from the tank and required that the tank be removed from the base, bolts sawed out, and leak repaired and sealed. Plus, the tank was then remounted and the internal parts replaced. I thought for sure this was going to be immensely expensive, and I was dreading the bill… but I am pleasantly surprised to find that it was reasonable and below a quote I got from a better known company. Considering the nice and professional plumbers did a great job, I am thankful for the better deal! Will definitely use again because of the reasonable prices!

I had called around 9am in the morning due to a clogged kitchen sink/​garbage disposal. They arrived at 11:30am. The moment Ryan (the plumber sent) walked in, the drain cleared itself! So, I had him instead look at a slow bathtub drain. He got right in there and cleaned it out, showing me also how to better maintain the drain and gave me advice on how to keep it and the kitchen drain clear. Ryan was the most fun, courteous, and professional San Diego plumbing person I’ve ever had. Not often you can say you enjoy your plumber’s visit! I’d definitely use them again in a heartbeat!

We are so much happier with this furnace. It replaced a Trane furnace that was only 13 years old. We don’t think it was ever installed correctly (by a different San Diego heating and air company). It was so loud, and the house never seemed very warm. This furnace is so much quieter and by keeping the fan on low — very quiet — all the time, the house is much more comfortable. We originally had Tarpy Heating and air out for our annual service. They discovered the furnace had locked itself out because it was not working correctly. It could have exposed us to carbon monoxide. They advised us to not use it until repaired or replaced. The Heating contractor tech from Tarpy immediately put together some quotes and options for a new furnace vs fixing the Trane. Once we decided to replace it with the Carrier, Tarpy jumped right on it. They worked late on a Friday to complete the installation, since otherwise we wouldn’t have had heat over the weekend. Thank goodness! Immediately after installation, the overnight temperatures dipped into the teens. Our new furnace kept us warm. Wonderful! Thanks so much.

We just recently moved to and live in a rental home. The first San Diego heating contractor I called wouldn’t even come out to the house without meeting with the landlord. Since he lives out of state that meant NO Service! I was very happy when I called Tarpy and they treated me the same as they would have if I owned the home myself.
Chris was great and quickly did an inspection and then took the time to explain what he found. He was happy to replace the furnace filter with one I had on hand, a job I should have done myself. Our outdoor cooling system had a wire that just hung off the unit which was nicked and cracked and covered with electrical tape from previous patch jobs. Chris showed me that even some copper wire was exposed. He also explained the capacitor problem in terms that I could understand and then quickly took care of both problems for me.
Since I come from a cooler climate I probably will use my air conditioning more than most people in the area and I am happy to know it is good for another year. I believe that not only did I get good service but protection from bigger problems in the future. I will definatley use Tarpy Plumbing for my future service needs.

Scheduling… flawless. They called ahead 15 minutes before scheduled window and said they were coming. Arrived on time, clean and professional guys. Very nice and knowledgeable. I’m not going to lie, I had some sticker shock. My choices were to replace the whole control unit or the entire water heater. Note-​he did NOT try the big up sale for new units but he did not quote a price for just fixing what was broken either. At the end of the day I was ok with that because I already knew what the reliability of that particular system was. 2 identical failures 2 months apart on 2 separate units. They drained the tank and replaced the units. The whole thing took about 3 hours total and that was because they had to go get the parts. Overall, with the 2-​yr warranty on the control system and the professionalism of the guys doing the work I feel comfortable with the transaction. It wasn’t cheap, but everything was quoted up front and there were no attempts to push add-​ons which I am happy about. Would use them again but might compare prices first. Great response time though. Quality company.

We could hear water running through the pipes from within one bathroom, even though all faucets were turned off. I looked under the floor of our pier and beam house and could see a pool of water under the shower/​tub in that bathroom.
I called Tarpy on Monday morning and spoke with Karen. She scheduled me for 2 – 4 pm that afternoon. A little after 2, she called me back to say they they were running behind due to the work being done for the call before me. We agreed to reschedule for the first call on Tuesday morning. That really worked with my school schedule since the first call was 8:30!
Dave and Jason arrived at about 9 am. I explained the problem to them, showed them where the main water cut-​off was, and how to get access under the house. They immediately went to work testing for leaks. They seemed to really know what they were doing. One worker went under the house while the other stayed above as they coordinated efforts to isolate the source of the leak. They worked very well together and didn’t disrupt me while I was working on my paper. Within an hour, they were finished and they showed me the segment of pipe they had to replace and explained in detail what they did.
Both of these guys were very polite, respectful, and professional. I also felt very assured that they would do quality work because they were so confident, efficient, and professional. Karen was also very pleasant and helpful (Thanks, Karen!). I also felt the cost of the job was reasonable.

I had some plumbing issues that needed attention. Two of the showers in my home were leaking from the tub spouts, the plumbing under the kitchen sink needed to be re-​worked, and I knew from a previous plumbing service call that the water pressure was too high coming into our home. I called Tarpy plumbing and made an appointment for the next day and was given a 2 hour window.
John called me about a half an hour before he arrived to let me know he was on his way. When he arrived, he tested and removed a tub spout in one of our showers and indicated that it would have to be replaced. Knowing the other shower was doing the exact same thing, he immediately ordered 2 new spouts and then proceeded to check the other issues I called on. We agreed that he would fix those when he came back to repair the tub spouts. John called a few days later at 8:00 a.m. to let me know that he was still waiting on the new spouts. I appreciated the update.
The next day he called and informed me that they had arrived and we set up an appointment for 8:00 a.m. the following morning. John called me the next morning at 7:40 (again, appreciated) to let me know that he and an associate were on their way and when they arrived they performed all the work in about an hour’s time and tested everything. I would definitely use Tarpy Plumbing for any future plumbing issues I have.

We had been considering upgrading to a tankless water heater for some time; Our tank water heater was original to the house (built in 1992) and we knew it must be nearing the end of its life; although it was still performing adequately. We had a number of questions about the brand and installation requirements, the owner (Paul Tarpy) answered over the phone with directions to websites with more specifics. Paul performed the initial inspection which identified an issue with the installation location and Building Code which required us to either upgrade the heater or relocate the unit to an outside wall. The location of the old tank heater was in the center of the basement with no immediatly adjacent outside wall. Tarpy’s gave us some options and quoted a very fair price for the upgraded unit. Ultimately, and after confirming with the County, we chose to go with the upgraded unit. All the necessary untilities (water, natural gas) were already located and would have required significant effort and expense to re-​run for an outside wall installation.
Services performed included:
–Initial inspection of the job site (a one hour session that was scheduled when we placed the order);
–removal and disposal of the old tanked water heater;
–installation of a new, high-​efficiency Noritz tankless unit; and
–construction and installation of approximately 16 feet of conduit vent to outside;
–testing of the unit’s operation;
–clean-​up of the area after they were done;
–demonstration and (minor) training of the homeowner on the unit and maintenance requirements.
The initial inspection from Tarpy Plumbing was hastily scheduled. He was able to accommodate a visit the next day. His schedules and mine matched for that day. I was working at home and he was in the area. We set a window and he was able to come by. The initial inspection took less than an hour.
On the day of installation, Tarpy’s two workers were at our resident on-​time in the morning and had all the materials necessary to begin the work. The 20-​year old water heater (also natural gas fired) was removed and the new Noritz tankless unit installed, vented, and tested. Construction of the vent line was relatively straight-​forward but not a simple task. The workmen obviously took care in its construction to make it look good as well as functional, especially where it exited outside. The finished vent is not instrusive to the eye. (We have a high-​efficiency furnace that was installed 4 years ago, and its venting is merely functional.) I forgot to get their names, but they were both courteous, professional, and thoughtful in coming up with solutions to work challenges. And they left the work site cleaner and more attractive than when they had started (and I had thought I had done a good job of clearing and cleaning the area for them the day before!) When testing the unit, a small hiccup developed which required a little extra time to troubleshoot; they explained the situation to me and corrected it. They went through the retest with me and spend longer than just a quick run-​through to inform me of the unit’s operation, capabilities, and maintenance requirements. In the end, I was comfortable with what they did and confident the problem was resolved.
Overall, the job took a little more than 6 hours to complete, including the cleanup inside te house and outside. Almost a month later, the Nortiz unit performs flawlessly. We haven’t tried to use more than two hot water demands at once; although we were told that this unit could handle the larger volume demand. We haven’t received the utility bill yet so we can’t comment on savings. We wish we had done this much sooner.

Lifesavers! Our air conditioner stopped working earlier this week in the middle of a spring heat wave. I called yesterday and Paul, the owner, came out this morning. He was prompt and courteous and had it fixed within the hour. We are in the process of getting ready to list our house for sale so he did a free duct inspection and offered to send over a quote to have the duct work replaced. Very reasonable prices and overall great service!

Tarpy plumbing has been a life saver to our new home we moved in after one week we sprung a leak in our floor and so we started calling companies and Tarpy was the first company able to come out and get out water shut off and they even have us a price before work was performed to we knew what we were getting into no bait and switch here. Frankly feels good to know there is a company out there that is honest and doesn’t take advantage of emergency situations. My plumbing techs name was Ricky really nice guy and was informative and cleaned up after himself. Thanks to Tarpy and there staff my house is back in order.
