I’ve been a member for a few years. It’s has a nice range, decent selection and prices. Parking is ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ with availability. The majority of the staff are super nice and helpful. My only real complaint (s) is the on/off customer service.
I reserved a gun that was expected to be in on a specific date with my name and number taken down and never got a call. But when I showed up later in the week (I already purchased this gun elsewhere to test it out at the range) and asked for the heck of it if they ever came in… «oh, yeah! We got those in a few days ago!» (Gee thanks for calling me) I ended up buying from a competitor $ 40 cheaper anyway. chalk it up to being busy/out of sight and out of mind. What ever, stuff happens. It’s still a win for me.
My only problem is with the one short-fat-bald guy that works there. Bit of an attitude problem, very nasty. Every time i go, this guy is up in people’s business. He’ll inject himself in a conversation that doesn’t involve him, acting like the expert and authority. And when you are in a lane, he seems to make his rounds giving criticism that wasn’t asked for. I can do without that. Otherwise, it’s a great place.

Such amazing people working there. Dave (Mark, lol) and Angie are definitely a bonus to your shop. Very nice and helpful and went out of their way to help us and explain things to us. We were on vacation from Chicago and these 2 employees went above and beyond. They made my 10 and 12 year old feel safe and we’re not intimidating to them. Thank you for making my kids and myself feel good and not like idiots for having to explain everything to us… Twice. We highly recommend your shop to anyone staying in the Sarasota area. Thanks again!

I own and operate another gun shop here in Sarasota. I have used Take Aim for many years. I exclusively use their range for all of my firearm classes, and personal range time as well.
After almost being shot at the Knights Trail range in Nokomis many years ago and after recent trip against my better judgment seeing nothing has changed, I believe Take Aim Gun Range is the best alternative to the county run death trap called Knights Trail.
Take Aim’s in house instructor, Mike Magowan is one of the best instructor I have ever had the pleasure to work with.
Take Aim has a great selection of firearms, ammo, rental firearms, and accessories in stock at competitive prices.
Ladies they are very friendly for you as well, with Ladies Day being held on Thursdays. Ladies shoot free with the cost of just one box of ammo. And they are home to Mike Magowan’s Women With Weapons class, and Sarasota’s home of The Well Armed Woman.

During a recent visit to Sarasota, God’s waiting room, I decided it was the perfect time to rent a pistol and introduce my 11-year old to the joy of target shooting. This is something I can’t do in New York City because firearms are a privilege only for the police. And felons.
Until this point in time, my son’s experience with recoil was limited to video games and a BB rifle — which is to say he had no experience with it. I opted for the Ruger .22 to gently introduce him to the concept. No need to freak him out with the bowel-liquefying concussion from a .45.
We found Tim to be very helpful. He was great at easing my son’s borderline-neurotic fears about going deaf from the noise. Tim had him try on ear protection until he found something he liked, and we added some foam earplugs to boot.
At Tim’s suggestion I loaded only one round into the magazine at a time for the first several shots. We eventually worked up to a full clip. In short order we found ourselves needing another box of ammo. And another. And another. The boy was hooked.
I have to say, it turns out the boy’s a pretty good shot at 20 feet. We’ll be prepared in the event we’re ever attacked by paper silhouettes.

Visiting from out of state and always want to hit a range while on vacation. With no time limits getting in is a crap shoot during the holidays. You have to wait and wait. Loud, Messy and crowded with several deep per booth. Space to load and store gear lacking if crowded. With so many people they really needed someone in there at least to keep the floors clear.
Yes, between the three people I talk to one was helpful and had no attitude. One gentleman gave my sister in law and I doubtful attitude on our experience even though she’s military and both have carry licenses. One older lady was plain out rude. Short and snappy
Prices are good, grab a groupon if you can. They have them all the time. Check gun rental for cleanliness.
All in all its you regular small town range in a large city that needs updating.

I was in town on vacation and decided to go shooting on a rainy day. I found this place on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. The staff was very friendly and explained the pricing structure in detail. I signed up for a membership and was assigned a lane within minutes. The range was clean and organized. Overall a very nice place and good shooting experience.

Preferred range to use in the area, but it’s a crapshoot on if who you are dealing with there is helpful or not. Some folks are very accommodating, others will try and belittle your firearm of choice. Not every customer needs a «tacti-cool» firearm, y’all. Most employees are very knowledgable and friendly, but if you’ve been there enough you know who has the small man complex, he’s the smart ass that everyone avoids.
Very nice selection and they will work you a deal if you’re serious. Nice that they offer guns to rent as well. Gives you a feel for what you might like, or even if you just want to blow off some steam with a 357 without having to bring one home.
Can’t say enough, best range in the area, with least amount of BS.

Have used this range several times. All good. Never too busy. They let you shoot as long as you’re not a moron. Pricing is average. Glad to see they are selling firearms, given the competition they have from the internet. They don’t rob you on transfers, like some LGS’s do. I’d always buy local even if the prices are reasonably higher. The internet won’t be there when something goes wrong. And when it does, they’re there to fix their firearms. Took the CCW class and while I will say I didn’t learn anything new, I am sure a novice would have. Reasonable class fee. $ 65.

Took the concealed carry course. I have had military training on firearms about 40 years ago so this was just to update myself and had a blast. Was a little leary at first when mike’s son was in room with another younger man. Turns out they are assistants. Mike made the course fun and interesting. They were surprised when I went to fire my new pistol for the test fire for course, I am old school and prefer my 45 acp, and put 3 rounds in same hole. This was first time I fired my 45. Range is noisier then most I have been but enjoyed it anyway. It is just a generic neighborhood gun shop. Good selection of handguns. Some of them guide towards glocks, but I told them I wanted external thumb safety and showed me what they had and decided on fnh USA FNX 45. They seem very knowledgeable on most firearms and you can make an informed decision. Have ability to test fire weapon you are interested in or rent one to see if you would like to go further. Bought the membership to range, even with the membership it’s cheaper then a lot of ranges without memberships. Not the cheapest prices around but not the highest either.

I don’t really know anything about guns, but I’ve shot more than I ever thought I would in my life. And no, I don’t hunt (but I would!). I also don’t know that much about gun ranges… But I have to say, I enjoyed my time here. Ladies shoot for free on Thursday, and it was pretty busy that day. We waited about an hour before it was out time. It was worth it.
I wish there was some outdoor shooting here.

Fairly generic gun shop/range staffed with the prerequisite staff that are just full of themselves and their knowledge of firearms. They offer a concealed weapons class taught by a man who likes to think of himself as a Navy SEAL, CIA Agent, Sniper, Army Ranger and member of Mossad all rolled into one neat package who is quite entertaining. Range is nice BUT very noisy.

Took the concealed firearm course and followed up with a few private lessons and eventually a gun purchase (and another lesson). The range instructor provided excellent training and helpful advice when I was deciding what to buy.
Now I go there twice a week for practice. Ladies shoot free Thursdays with purchase of ammunition.
It can get very noisy in the shooting range when all the lanes are filled, especially when some of the shooters are using super high power rifles.
Like most ranges, there is not a lot of soundproofing between the booths.
I recommend you bring high quality earmuffs (or you can rent from the range) AND earplugs.

My wife and I just went here while visiting the Sarasota area house hunting. Let me just say that coming form Colorado, it was really refreshing to walk into a shooting range where the staff did not treat us like our presence was little more than a nuisance. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. I am pretty sure we found our local range for when we move down here.

Very friendly and professional staff with lots of guns for sale. You can rent any gun and shoot for fun. Or try a certain caliber before you buy. Can get permit course here. My only complain is that inside where you shoot is not very sound proof. Shots just echos, you leave a bit stress because of the noise, but overall recommend it.
