What is lower than one star? The food was awful. We love good Indian food. Instead, we got food that was poorly seasoned, over-cooked and left in the warming tray for a lifetime. The result was tasteless slop.

Sadly, I think they’ve gone to new/different management and the food quality and portions have gone downhill. I went in today and got the lunch special. They now serve it on a divided plate. I got four small chunks of chicken, a smattering of rice and some chick-peas. When I asked for sauce on the rice, they gave me maybe a tablespoon full. 90% of my rice was bare. The sauces for both the chicken & the chick-peas were very watery. There was no real spice or flavor. They gave me a small side plate with two or three TINY pieces of naan. Honestly, it was about $ 3.00 worth of food and I’m not a «huge portion» kind of eater. I really liked this place and used to go there a lot. Now, I probably won’t go back ever. My lunch was not enough to fill me up and frankly, it was watery and lacked flavor. I am sad that they changed for the worse. Sorry guys, you get two stars only because I feel guilty giving you just one.

This is by far one of the best lunch places downtown. The prices are very reasonable and the guys who work here are so nice it makes it impossible not to like it. This place is now a staple in my lunch repertoire.

This was a decent lunch spot, but I’m not sure if I’ll be back. At $ 5.99, the lunch special isn’t a bad deal. It includes one meat dish and one vegetable dish, along with rice, naan, and a drink. Unfortunately, it’s not particularly delicious. I came in on a Friday, and I went with the chicken saag(there’s a lamb and a chicken dish available daily; check their website for the rotating lunch menu) and the aloo gobi. The first thing I noticed, past the wide smiles and enthusiastic head wiggles of the staff, was that the curries were pretty lukewarm, and the naan was soggy and unappetizing. Pushing through, I found the food palatable, but a bit toned down in heat and flavor. OK for a quick meal, but not particularly inspiring. Maybe it’d be better to order off the menu next time, but those prices just aren’t as good.

I’ve only been to a couple Indian restaurants but I love Taste of India Express. good-tasting food for a pretty great price; I love their naan. They also have well-priced but selective lunch specials. great for students and one of the few places open late downtown.

I always get delivery, as their«express» meals are kinda on the«not-so-fresh» side it seems. I’ve never had a problem getting delivery and have ordered a few times. They will make a lamb curry if you ask, among other items that are traditional but are not listed on the menu. Just ask! I like the cream cheese Naan. not traditional but pretty delicious! The portions are kinda small, but it is pretty cheap. I might not mind paying more for larger portions!

I think this place sucks. They dont sell any curry’s in this location. I called 2 nights in a row on a rainy day for delivery there response«our driver isnt in yet, we dont know if or when hes coming» not professional at all. And too price for the portions.

Taste of India of Southside has added an express location in downtown Savannah taking over(or merging with?) Fat Pat’s Pizzeria on State St. It’s a small location, but still enough room for a dozen tables that will look familiar to patrons of Taste of India on Mall blvd. Indeed, what is offered is no-frills, plastic plates and silverware and slightly smaller portions. However, the prices are fantastic, with most entrees in the $ 3.95−5.99 range, and the menu of Fat Pat’s also seems to still be offered, although I have not tried the pizza or subs. It’s definitely not fine dining, the dishes seem heavily greased and there are some items of questionable authenticity(such as the delicious cream cheese naan). Despite this, everything tastes excellent, and being open ’till 3am on weekends, this location will certainly see much business from hungry, late working SCAD students.
