It was really good but not«quite» as good as I had hoped. Would I go again if I’m in town? ABSOLUTELY! You should go :-)

I was visiting Savannah from Chicago. I really liked this place. I am a big fan of Paula Deen and the food did not disappoint. The service was friendly and fast. I ordered sautéed local shrimp, cole slaw, flash fried collard greens, macaroni and cheese and had key lime pie for dessert. I was not crazy about the pie, but the rest of the meal was just as I expected. I really felt like I was eating southern food! You have to try it.

First off Make Reservations! We were seated on the 3rd floor and Olivia was our waitress. She was amazing! She answered all our questions and had great recommendations! I had the chicken pot pie and my companion ate off the buffet. The puff pastry on top off the pot pie was delicious! The mashed potatoes from the buffet were out of this world! For dessert we chose the Ooey Gooey, which we received two flavors of, chocolate and original. Both were amazing!

This is only for the Sunday buffet. I came after mass from the cathedral I arrived at the restaurant at 1:00pm. A small line but it was constantly moving. I asked for a table for 1. It took no more than 15 minutes to get a table. They took me to third floor and put me in a booth near the bar. The lighting was a bit dark but was still comfortable. The buffet was good the day I was there they had fried chicken, ox tail, meatloaf, and pulled pork. In reality the sides were the best thing there. During my meal my glass never went empty and I was offered biscuits and hoe cakes. Overall a good experience and I can say I had Paula Deans food.

My girlfriend and I couldn’t leave Savannah without eating here. Paula Deen is a Southern legend, and true Southern cooking isn’t common where we’re from. But given how popular this place is(you definitely want a reservation), I expected better. We started with the Fried Green Tomatoes(we skipped the buffet in an effort to show mercy to our stomachs) and they were tasty, but not spectacular. I then tried Bobby’s Salmon, which I thought was under-sized and slightly under-seasoned. Dessert was a winner though — the Pecan Pie was deliciously rich and creamy. Overall, it was a solid Southern dining experience, but not worth planning a trip around.

I was very hesitant to eat here and considered it a tourist trap. However the food exceeded our expectations and our server Manny was excellent

Ate at The Lady and Son’s two days ago for lunch. Overall, thought the restaurant was average at best. Atmosphere is pleasant, noise was at a low and it wasn’t crowded at all. Waitstaff was very friendly, and I thought the gentlemen that served us was super nice. The first item to be brought was drinks followed by their version of table bread(a fried cornbread pancake and a cheese biscuit. Pancake was amazing, biscuit was average. We decided to get the buffet, which is small but looked good. Fried chicken, BBQ brisket, chicken jambalaya, green beans cornbread casserole, yams, etc. Tried the fried chicken which was not any better than KFC or Popeyes as well as the BBQ brisket which was tender but not amazing flavor. Cornbread casserole was really good, but that is due to the insane amount of butter. Yams were very sweet with brown sugar glaze. I honestly think I made a mistake with the buffet, as it is not worth the $ 16 dollars. There are better buffets out there for less. I did see a few people order off the menu, and that food looked of much better quality. May give this place another shot and order off the actual menu. Anyway for now, food is 2 stars, service got them to 3 but at the moment not highly recommended.

For years, I’ve heard how overrated this place is. But, when I’m staying within walking distance of this restaurant, how can I not pay homage to the queen of southern cooking, Paula Deen? So here I am, writing this review of my experience. Overall, the food don’t lack flavor — not in a good way. Food is generally so salty that I was thirsty for the next hour. The green beans and candied yam are so salty and sweet respectively that they are borderline inedible. Black eye pea and lima beans are one dimensional — salty. Other dishes that were just OK are corn bread, cabbage, biscuit, and peach cobbler. I do like several dishes: fried chicken — crispy skin, tender meat, but not as juicy as I’d like. The Salisbury steak looking meat dish — I’m not a Salisbury steak guy, but it’s surprisingly good, especially the sauce on top. The best dishes were the braised oxtail and hot cake. The saltiness of the oxtail was just right, coupled with the herbs… yummy!!. Every bite of the hot cake was heavenly. The char on the outside gives it crunchiness, but interior was soft and fluffy. Like Paula, the staff is warm, friendly, and welcoming. I’ve completed my pilgrimage, been there, done that. Food is OK, but not worth the price($ 18). For that I don’t think I’ll return.

Yes… it’s A-OK for a hot bar buffet. If you want to try a variety of items from a southern buffet, this is the place to go. The best item on the hot bar would have to be the chicken. It’s crispy on the outside and really tender on the side. The mac & cheese is a bit too greasy for my liking. All of the items were just«okay», nothing special. For the experience, it was fantastic! Great staff though! Make sure to get reservations! It’s a popular tourist attraction so be prepare. Honorable mention: Sweet tea

The lunch buffet didn’t look very big, but it was plenty and more than enough to eat with one trip. It had the usual Southern dishes such as fried chicken, greens, yams, corn bread, string beans, mac and cheese along with BBQ pork, potatoes, rice, lasagna, Italian sausage, lima beans, salad bar, etc. The food was basically good, but I got full fast. The consistency of the skin on the fried chicken was a bit different than what I’m used to. The $ 16 lunch also included a hoecake and a cheddar biscuit along with choice of dessert. I chose the peach cobbler which had a good crust, but I mainly ate the peaches and left the gooey filling. The sweet tea was especially great. The restaurant has three levels. Sat at the bar and Hector was so nice and hospitable. Afterwards, browsed in the adjoining Paula Deen store full of cute items, books, cookware, etc.

I’ve heard pretty great things about The Lady & Sons, but I’ve also heard some other not great things about it. Had to try it for myself. My friend and I opted for their buffet lunch, which was a good choice. They had all the basic things on the buffet– friend chicken, cheesy meatloaf, sides, etc. The corn bread(pudding?) was absolutely delicious. Worth the cost of the buffet– went up twice. The buffet option also had a dessert offered afterwards. The banana pudding was pretty top notch! I give it two thumbs up. The staff was kind of rude. I understand it being incredibly crowded(we were on the third floor!!) but you shouldn’t be rude to customers. Word of mouth is pretty powerful these days.

My wife’s rating and mine are quite different. We did the buffet, which is overpriced. The fried chicken was better than average and so were the sweet potatoes. Everything else was just decent. Our server was very nice and attentative.

This was hands-down one of my favorite meals in Savannah. I almost didn’t go based on the Unilocal reviews thinking it was more about the hype and the food was going to suck, but I’m so glad I did! The restaurant itself is three floors, with a buffet on each floor. The staff was super friendly and the food was fantastic. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy, the mac & cheese was delicious although I prefer it creamier, and the collard greens were my favorite. For just $ 18 you get the buffet, drink and dessert. The ooey gooey butter cake was the thing of dreams, so much so that I got two pieces. The gift shop next door was good also.

Our first meal in Savannah and it did not disappoint! We went at around 2p on Tuesday and were able to be seated immediately. We gave the menu a glance, but we all decided to go with the buffet. It had fried chicken, a BBQ pork, lasagna, sausage and peppers, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, collared greens, Mac and cheese, rice, and a green beans with bacon and potatoes. If all fried chicken tasted as good as this my husband would be as obsessed with chicken as I am. The thighs had more meat, and it was moist and flavorful. Beautiful golden brown lightly crunchy skin. They had a house brand hot sauce on the table we dipped some into. I tried the pork too, and it was good, but not good enough to trump having a second helping of the chicken. I couldn’t even be bothered with the sausage or lasagna. For the sides, the mashed potatoes taste like they have three pounds of butter in them. So in other words, they are heaven. The Mac and cheese was creamy with a great cheese coating. The sweet potatoes almost equaled the mashed potatoes. You get dessert with and since there was three of us we got one of each — banana pudding, ooey gooey butter cake and peach cobbler. The banana pudding is better then magnolia bakeries in my opinion, the butter cake was everything I hoped it would be. The peach cobbler was only okay. I think you need to like hot cobbler more then we do. Cute gift shop to look around in too, yall

When you think of a soul food place, you rarely find them to be a buffet. The simple fact that you pay one price and can eat all you can eat, sounds like the perfect eating place. I went to Savannah for my mini honey moon, and I couldn’t wait to try Paula Deen’s restaurant. I absolutely loved the mac and cheese, and the fried chicken was seasoned and crispy, just how I like it. I knew that this place was going to taste really good, judging by the long line. The line was wrapped around the corner. But, it was worth the wait. I would definitely recommend this place to any one visiting the Savannah area.

Came for lunch on a Saturday and was seated right away on the top level. We opted for the buffet to be able to get a taste of everything. The spread included fried chicken, BBQ chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, collard creams, sweet potato, cornbread, mac & cheese, green beans, and some sort of pasta with meat sauce. It was a good variety and after trying a little big of everything(minus the BBQ chicken, I was full). All of the food was good, although the greens were on the salty side. The fried chicken was nice and crispy and tasted really good with the hot sauce. The mac & cheese was nice and cheesy. There was also a choice of dessert and I opted for the ooey gooey cake, which had good flavor but was cold. There was nothing amazing about the food, but I enjoyed the meal and everything tasted good.

This is a great place to have the buffet for lunch. It is home style soul food southern cooking. Everything on the buffet is excellent. Make a reservation a day or two before you visit. This place is busy. Don’t miss the fried chicken, mac & cheese, or grits. Arguably some of the best southern cooking in the Southeast. The fried chicken is outstanding, mac & cheese is off the charts, and grits so perfect I ate them just as they were. Smooth, creamy, not too salty and not too sweet. Greens, green beans, and brussel sprouts that are just super yummy. Damn incredible grits. There was also a cute little salad bar but I skipped it. This is the kind of place you go to when you splurge on your diet. Screw the rabbit food — bring on the bacon fat and butter. Did I mention the grits? They rocked. They also brought out some biscuits and cakes that were cheese and lard laden and just super yummy. Score. Why not 5 stars and whats up with your lunch recommendation? The Lady and Sons doesn’t have the amount of ambience that resonates from other establishments in its peer group. It has three stories of absolutely superior waiters/waitresses and floor managers who know how to satisfy the masses and turn tables. It’s not a southern relaxed atmosphere. It has a feel of come here and enjoy some grub then leave. Most other restaurants/Bistros in Savannah that I have been to seat you and enjoy hosting you for as long as you care to be there. It’s missing that feeling of the old slow South — if that makes any sense. I would probably have given three stars if I had dinner here. Dining is an experience more than just food in my opinion. I had my family of four for lunch. Considering we were in the Savannah historic district, at a famous chef’s establishment, this was a good value. Do it. We had fun. Its worth it and I’m cheap. If you are one of my friends/followers then you know I’m a bathroom snob. The Lady and Sons passes with flying colors. There were ample facilities and they were clean. Thats right — no boogers flicked on the walls and sparkling porcelain. My spouse reported all was good in the ladies facilities as well. Parking. Parking is tough here. We walked from our hotel. There is limited street parking. The nearest lots are about three blocks away. You’ll need the walk after eating all that food. I know that if you made it this far you wanted details to make an informed decision. I hope I helped. If you are looking for Southern Hospitality, Savannah is full of it — and the Lady and Sons is no exception. I will admit watching Dancing With The Stars reminded me of my visit to GA while seemingly offering some insight into the chatacter of Paula Deen(the woman comes across quite zany for one thought of to be a truly southern woman)… When we arrived at Lady and Sons, the first floor was packed. It had quite a romantic and charming feel to it and looked as if it was out of a period movie with rustic furniture. We were taken up a small elevator(we had a stroller with is) and rode to the second floor. The second floor was quite large, bisected in the middle with a restroom in between. It was then that I realized the restaurant had been a house at some point(quite a rather large house)… Not to digress from discussion of the food: while I will agree that there could have been more choices on the menu as well as on the buffet, the fried chicken, potatoes and corn bread were delicious and unlimited. I was completely full and happy by the time I left. The service was on point and quite patient with my son(just over 1 year at the time). While I did not see any children on the first floor, there were several families on the second.(I do not know if that was by design or if by chance.)

This is a throwback review… I’m surprised this place only has three stars! And yes — I’m chocolate and I’m supporting Paula Deen! The first time I tried this place, I was not a fan of the drawn out reservation process that required me to put my name on a list in the morning for an afternoon reservation. The food was good… not as great as my family’s Southern cooking, but solid! The second time I visited was about two years ago when I returned to Savannah to bury my grandmother — rest her soul. My two favorite cousins(we are only children so I can say that!) and I went and had a great time… from the easier«check in» process, the Southern hospitality of everyone from the hostesses to the servers — the special attention from a particular bartender didn’t hurt, the honest reviews of various dishes from the servers, and — my FAVORITE part — the free ooey gooey cake they gave us for dessert! It literally puts dimples in my thighs just thinking of it! But it’s SO good! This is not a place I would crave, but I would definitely visit again for the experience and Southern charm.

Sign me up for this again. I am most definitely a fan. I came in with average expectations because buffets($ 16 for lunch) are never really that great/fresh. But this place was amazing for a southern buffet. I got two plates full of mashed potatoes, collard greens, mac and cheese, corn pudding and fried chicken. I ate my weight in corn pudding. The fried chicken was nice and crispy on the outside but tender and moist on the inside. Mashed potatoes was literally butter. It also comes with hot cakes and corn bread. Southern hospitality exists here. When they ran out of dark meat chicken and we asked the waiter when the next batch would come out, the waiter kept us updated on a regular basis and immediately told us once it came out. Service was stupendous. I think the only thing that was just all right was the dessert options but it’s part of the buffet so it wasn’t like I was paying extra. If I ever go back to Savannah, I would 100% come back again. That corn pudding… yum.
