I moved to Schaumburg about 6 months ago and was SO excited to see I lived close to Onsen as it appeared nice. I had gotten my nails done there a few times (pedicures) and realized that Minnie or the man who wears the necklaces would RUSH through the massage part of the pedicures so I was always left a little disappointed but I figured whatever it’s close.
A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and a went for a couple’s massage after a particularly stressful week at work. I had the guy (who did my pedicures in the past) and while I was expecting a nice, relaxing experience, I had the worst massage experience of my life. The guy was touching parts that should NEVER be touched during a massage. One time I thought was an accident but then it happened 5 – 6 more times during the whole thing. I kept squirming around trying to give him the hint without making a scene. I have gotten quite a few massages during my life and have NEVER been made to feel uncomfortable like that. Not even close. I will never go back for any «service» again.
I had another friend go get a massage there this past weekend and she said that although her massage wasn’t as ‘intrusive’, her guy (seemingly a different man than I had) focused a little too much on her butt to the point that she also felt incredibly uncomfortable. So, I finally decided I’d post this review to hopefully spare other girls from this very unpleasant, sickening experience.

superb service! minnie did my mani-pedi…she recognized my problem areas immediately
and addressed them. what a pleasure to finally find a professional talented nail technician!
i had a massage and facial with suzie… she rates right up there, if not more talented,
them the massages i have had all over the world. what a gem she is, here in Illinois!

While checking out from the spa, the man behind the counter very rudely blurted out, «Aren’t you going to leave a tip?!» Little did he know, I had tipped my technician personally after my service. Regardless though, no one should put you on the spot like that. Not only does it put the customer in an uncomfortable situation but it’s terribly rude and unprofessional. I wouldn’t come back to the spa solely based on that.

Onsen day spa is a terrific place for a facial, massage, manicure and pedicure. Even on a busy day they can get you in that day for an appointment. The staff are very friendly, nice and helpful.

I had 60min Swedish massage for $ 55 by Ann. It was good enough for the price.

Make appointments on 2 dates; 1^st time I waited 30 minutes to be taken. 2^nd time I was there after waiting 39 minutes yet again, I left never to return. They’re good manicurists but spa treatments are very good.

I’m honestly surprised this place doesn’t have all 5-​star reviews. Onsen’s does the best manicure in town!
After my normal nail salon recently went through a change of staff and started to go downhill, I began my search for a new place. A friend recommended Onsen’s and man, I’m never going anywhere else again! They are meticulous. Both times I’ve been here, I’ve left with beautiful nails. They look fake — that’s how perfect they are. I’ve pulled and peered at every side, tip and base of each nail and can’t find a flaw. For $ 35, this perfectionist is as happy as can be.
The only drawback to this place is that it’s much smaller than other nail salons in the area. There are only three chairs for manicures and three for pedicures, so it’s not the best place for a group. Likewise, if you get cranky waiting, it’s probably best to make an appointment.
So go, make an appointment, grab $ 35, and get yourself over to this little-​known place behind Culver’s. You won’t regret it.

Love Onsen’s

I was there with my mom and my two little girls (6 & 4 years old). We were all to get mani/​pedis. The girls that did our nails were great and very accommodating. Once the man in the back came out, the entire feeling in the salon changed. Suddenly they did not have time to do my daughters nails. I was going to paint them myself to satisfy my daughters who were looking forward to having their nails done. *side-​note* their price menu offers 25% off for children under 10, which led me to believe that they were ok with having children in their «spa». When I went to paint my daughters nails, since he obviously did not want them there, he told me that it was not ok for little kids to have their nails painted, which is not even true. I feel bad for the women working there. I am guessing this guy is the boss. He is unfriendly, and offers poor customer service. For a flooded industry such as nail salons, the best thing they can offer is good customer service. Onsen is definitely lacking.

I was there when the incident with the two adorable little angels were rejected by this man. I hope he feels like a really big man now after making those little things so upset zero stars

This place was neat and tidy. The staff was very nice and I would def go back. relaxing atmosphere and even my bf said he’d go back. Easy to park and to get an appointment.

Small place but fantastic ambience. We got a couples massage that was fantastic– would go again in a heartbeat!

The great prices is what attracted me to this place at first. My boyfriend and I had gotten a couples massage. We only had free time on Sunday and they were one of the very few places that were actually open on a Sunday. The facilities were nice and clean. We had even called to let them know we were going to be a couple of minutes late and they didn’t have an issue with that. For the most part our experience there was great. The massages were great. The lady my boyfriend had kept telling him how to breath. This is the only reason why I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5. She would tell him how he should be breathing and then would inhale and exhale so loudly it actually got annoying. She did this a couple of times through out our massage. My boyfriend and I didn’t appreciate this. It even got to a point that my lady made gestures at her to stop but she didnt. I believe her name was Victoria, so try to avoid her.

I live very close and have gone multiple times. They always have a great deal on massage packages and mani/​pedis. Each time I have left very happy and plan on returning.
The main thing I like — IT’S CLEAN! You can SEE them sterilizing all their items. Their massage sheets smell clean. It’s comforting knowing you’re in a hygienic place.
So far I have had massages, facials, waxing, manicure, and pedicure. I was very satisfied with everything I have received.
Chances are I won’t go anywhere else!

Been there, had the 90 minute couples massage. It’s good not spectacular… the only problem I have is the price list says couples massage $ 180 right there on their website but when it was time to pay he told me $ 190. He said the couples massage is $ 10 extra. I didn’t feel like arguing at the time and if I was trying to save money I would have stayed home, it’s just the principle of the matter… I will be trying other places next time…

Took advantage of the $ 55 60-​minute massage as a gift for my boyfriend. He says that it was OK compared to other places we have been to (i.e. Massage Envy). His only complaint was that they did not ask about any focal points or massage preferences (i.e. strenuous, soothing, etc). I got a pedicure. It didn’t seemed rushed but I wasn’t 100% satisfied. More so 80%. I had my pedicure done by two people (the man had to go act as a receptionist). There was this other lady that got up while doing this other girl’s manicure to prepare the water for another pedicure. They were just all over the place! I think they need to consider hiring more people.

I’ve moved to the suburbs 5 years ago & had a hard time finding a nail place that I really liked. until Onsen.
Minnie does a fabulous job. and everyone is always so friendly! I usually feel uncomfortable going to get my nails does because the technicians are always holding conversations in their native language (which I find to be extremely rude). But at Onsen, the staff is more than capable and happy to hold a conversation with you. I once brought my Goddaughter in to treat her to a mani-​pedi for straight A’s on her report card. They made her feel so special, and my Goddaughter was so happy.
I have tried waxing & was equally I impressed with how thorough their work was.
They have a great deal on a massage, which I still need to make time to try out. I will definitely have to make an appointment to try it out.
This is officially the only day spa that I will be loyal.

My very first wax everrrrr! To be more specific, leg wax. ;) I really liked the vibe; the guy at the front desk was very friendly and let me put the tip on my credit card, but usually it’s cash only.
I’ve used an epilator before so this was cake… I’d been worried, but it only hurt a little and my legs are sooooo smooth. The woman who did my legs, Ovana (maybe?) was sweet and answered all my questions. She was gentle and efficient. I don’t know how accurate all the waxing should be… I have a little bit of hair left so I’m hitting the four stars.
They were prompt and they’ve got some good deals… I’m going to have to go back and take advantage of the massage soon! :)
