History

Established in 1989.

After college I had a trip planned to Nepal. I could not get a «real job» until I returned so I had 5 months to experiment. I had a friend who invited me to start a business with him cleaning windows. So I jumped in, of course when I got back from Nepal I would get that real job. Now, 20 years later, I still haven’t gotten that real job. The physical nature of this business coupled with the personal and social connections that I am continually making with my clients has kept my career as a window cleaner fresh and exciting despite the fact that the work itself is highly repetitive. I started in 1989 in Santa Cruz, Ca. My lovely wife Lucy joined me in 1999 taking over the front office. We sold the business in 2005 and moved to Bend, Or. It has become apparent that Santa Cruz is our preferred place and have decide to re-​establish the business here in 2010. We look forward to being near family and serving our customers we miss so much as well… hopefully all 1860 of them!

My name is Tim Hiatt, I grew up in Kentfield, Ca. and first came to Santa Cruz County to attend UCSC in 1985. After graduating with an Economics degree in 1989, I decided to stay and start a window cleaning business. I enjoy all outdoor activities Santa Cruz has to offer. In addition continued to enjoy soccer and tennis. I coached the JV boys soccer team for 2 seasons in the 1990s. I have a beautiful wife Lucy and 3 young sons: Liam, Evan and Kian.

If you want your windows cleaned properly and thoroughly and want a reliable dependable person with integrity, then the only place to go for window cleaning is Tim Hiatt’s Fog Lifter. We have been using Tim for many years and he is simply the best.
Tim works by himself and puts his full effort into doing the job — with very high standards, so you know in advance what you will be getting.
One possible downside: Tim is so busy that you may not be able to get an appointment with him. HIs clientele are so loyal that openings are infrequent.

I can’t say enough about this really nice, honest and hard working man. He came out and unclogged my gutters for me in the middle of a pouring rain this month
and was very reasonably priced. Considering the circumstances and the fact that my gutters were overflowing, he could have charged me more than he did. I would highly recommend him.

Tim helped me find an excellent solution to a horrible hovering fly problem we have at our condominium complex by providing and installing a wonderful retractable screendoor system. He was very knowledgeable, prompt, helpful and his price was great. The quality of the system is just amazing. Don’t fall for the junky ones sold at Home Depot or OSH! I thank him every time I open and close my wonderful new screen door!
He also cleaned my windows perfectly, and quickly!

We just found Fog Lifter on the Internet and Tim did a great job – above and beyond the call of duty. He showed up on time, did a great job, was very tidy, and pointed out a problem with some of the windows that should be covered by their warranty. He also fixed some damaged screens as part of the cleaning.
We will call him again and refer our friends too!

Fog Lifter gets 4 stars from me only because Tim has not actually cleaned my windows. He came out to give me an estimate on a window job that I may not even have to do (we’re moving out of a rental). He was very prompt, personable and professional. Fixed a ripped screen on the spot.
The house we are moving into has had very little upkeep in the last 25 years, and I will definitely call Fog Lifter for those windows.

Every summer I get really swamped with work and have a 4 – 6 week wait for window cleaning customers. I had a customer in Cupertino that just had to have her windows cleaned the following week for a party. I called on Tim from Foglifter to see if he could help out.
