Specialties
Flavors so distinctive and unique that they are featured as one of Esquire magazine’s current picks for best sandwiches in America. Only one, Al’s Beef, offers its customers Chicago’s and America’s #1 Italian beef sandwich, the one and only, the authentic sandwich invented 70 years ago at the now legendary Taylor Street beef stand in Chicago!
History
Established in 2010.
from its humble beginnings in 1938, Al Ferreri, his sister Frances, and brother in-law Chris Pacelli Sr. began developing what is known today as one of the «Top 10 Sandwiches in America,» a «Chicago Food Legend» and «Chicago’s #1 Italian Beef Sandwich.»
The original idea for the Italian beef sandwich was formed out of necessity, as many great ideas are. In the great depression era, meat was scarce so Chris and Al would go to family weddings and in order to make the meat go around, the family sliced it thinly and made sandwiches.
The first official Al’s Beef stand began as a small, curbside, outdoor, wooden neighborhood food stand with countertop service located in Chicago’s «Little Italy» neighborhood.
Al’s Beef has grown with several locations since then bringing its now legendary recipes to you, including one in Scottsdale, Az. Celebrating one year from our grand opening, we have dedicated ourselves to preserving what this country has come to recognize as a true food icon.
