Alvarez Guitar, Amp, and Keyboard Repair & Accessories

I took my brand new acoustic-​electric guitar to Alvarez Guitar for set-​up. Walking into the shop, I immediately noticed that it is very neat and tidy, there are no marketing or sales flyers nor goods to be sold as far I can tell, which is a good sign that it’s not going to be an up-​sell type of place.
Jesus took a thorough visual and auditory inspection at the various parts of my guitar, as well as plugging it into an amp to check that the on-​board electronics were working properly, and then he gave me an assessment of what the set-​up for my guitar would entail. The set-​up for my guitar involved raising the strings a bit, adjusting the truss rod, and putting in new strings, and it only took about an hour. Even to my novice ears, I could tell an immediate difference in the intonation, all the buzz was gone and Jesus assured me that it was mostly in the guitar. He also gave me the package that the strings came in, so I know what to ask for when I need new strings. Jesus is very pleasant and knowledgeable, I’d definitely take my instruments and amps back if they need more work.
The building is pretty non-​descript, but it’s very close to Tropicos Breeze which is a big plus as a landmark and also a place to go if you need a place to hang out while waiting for your gear to be worked on.

Had new pickups and re-​wiring and set up of my japanese telecaster, as well as replacing 7 potentiometers on a tube amp that were bad, and checked out another amp.
Great price, great communication via email about different options, and my stuff is sounding awesome now. Will be back again for sure.

Jesus did a minor overhaul to my Alvarez Yairi cutaway acoustic guitar with pick up — in an hour! Nut, bridge, strings, pegs. He is very knowledgable and sets out to improve the playability and sound of your axe. Please take your business to him. 100% recommend!

Amazing. I came all the way from North Bend/​Snoqualmie because I heard good things about Jesus, and I was not disappointed. He had my sad and sick Larrivée back and better than ever in 45 minutes. 45 minutes! Still shocked. Best setup ever, and a shimmed saddle and reshaped nut and new strings and fret board and fret polish and more: 75 bucks. Amazing. I can’t urge you to go here enough: it’s worth the drive, whatever that drive may be.

I visited Jesus at Alvarez Repairs for the first time last week. It’s a nice shop, he’s friendly and easy to talk to. Jesus really made me feel like he wanted to understand my issues and desires before he began working. He did a setup and fretwork (level, grind, polish) on my Strat. And he spruced up my Ampeg Reverberocket, adjusted power tube bias, tested all tubes, replaced one, cleaned it all out. He followed up afterwards to see how things were going. They both held up great through a 10-​hour rehearsal last weekend. The Strat plays like a dream, and the Ampeg feels like it’s supposed to again. Will be back with my other instruments!

After my Fender DeVille started crackling and cutting out at our last show, I took it in for repairs at Alvarez Guitar, Amp, and Keyboard Repair & Accessories​on Aurora. Jesus checked out my amp, found the issue (poor power tube connections), and swapped out one of my preamp tubes that tested poorly. I picked it up an hour later and paid $ 27. He’s only been there for a few months. If you’re in need of repairs, go see Jesus. Keep him in business!

If you have any kind of issue with your guitar, amp or keyboard (and pretty much anything with electronics that makes sound?!) bring it to Jesus at Alvarez Repair. He is both an adept technician and great guy to work with. He has now worked on three different projects for me.
The first was a bass amp. Though it ended up being irreparable due to the manufacturer no longer making parts Jesus charged not a dime even after getting up to his elbows to locate the problem.
The second item was an installation of an LR Baggs Anthem pickup in my Martin. Not only was the turnaround super quick, he took the time to ensure it was setup properly and it looked cleaner than when I brought it in. That’s attention to detail.
Finally I dropped off my church’s keyboard which had a sticking key. Jesus got in there, discovered it was actually cracked, ordered a new one and had it ready to go, working like new in short order.

I had an amp with a vague «it just doesn’t sound right…”-type issue that I’d already taken to another amp tech, who had told me there was nothing wrong with the amp.
I called Jesus and explained what I was hearing and he agreed to check it out. Sure enough, the amp was out of bias and he was able to make it sound right again. He checked the amp out, tested the tubes, adjusted the bias, and play tested it. Within a couple hours, my amp was back in business – for a very reasonable rate.
Worth noting – my amp is an Engl, which is profoundly annoying to take apart and service (upside-​down circuit boards, hot glue, etc).
I will absolutely be taking my amps back to Jesus when they’re due for a tube change, or just sounding wonky. Thanks Jesus!

New York’s loss is Seattle’s gain. Jesse was easily my favorite guitar tech in NYC, great work, great prices and ridiculously quick turnaround. I have no idea who I’m going to bring my guitars to now.

I’ve been playing guitar for decades and have had many setups and repairs on my guitars and amps over the years. Jesse offered the best quality per dollar I encountered over the years. He worked on probably 10 different guitars of mine and 1 tube amp. His setups and neck adjustments were awesome and he always did perfect work on pots pickups frets etc. He found a faulty resistor that was making my amp noisy. He works quickly and his prices were the best in my area. I very highly recommend him for repairs and setups of all kinds to get the most out of your gear at realistic prices.
