History

Established in 1935.

In 1930 David A. Burns, Sr. moved his family from Ohio to Seattle. The Burns family’s interest in professional cleaning came by accident — while managing a Seattle apartment building, a pail of wall cleaning solution was spilled on a wool area rug by Mr. and Mrs. Burns. They quickly absorbed as much of the soapy spill as they could; the next day there was a clean spot where the spill had occurred. Dave Sr. and Dave Jr. decided to clean rugs on a full-​time basis.

As their cleaning expertise grew, D. A. Burns tackled Oriental rugs and added carpet repair and upholstery cleaning to their family of services, followed by carpet edge treatments — binding, serging and fringing. With the advent of wall-​to-​wall carpet, the firm followed with on-​location cleaning of carpet.

As the greater Seattle area has grown, D. A. Burns & Sons has grown with it, opening a satellite office in Bellevue in 1988. Today D. A. Burns is a leading Northwest carpet, specialty rug and upholstery
