Elite Event @ The Paramount Club: The Sonics!

The best part of the event was the company… I had a great time meeting people & hangin’ with my favorite sly redhead!
Free drinks in a swanky atmosphere is always good too! And there were some fun costumes & even «funner» people!
The show was… hmmm…not really my thing so I’ll keep from reviewing it b/​c I wouldn’t know what to say…“bright light! bright light!” is about all that comes to mind. Although Jen L and I did debate what Steven Van Zant (sp) was on… that was amusing… and we really got a kick out of watching Matt throw his hands up every time the strobe lights blared our way.
Overall, it was a fun night for me… especially since I’m fairly new to Unilocal.

Errrm did anyone else wonder if the strobe lights could have potentially caused a few mild strokes last nite? Coz if one more went off while I was directly looking into them, I would have been added to that list of unfortunates!

The Paramount Club was awesome. Anytime I get the VIP treatment it reminds me why Unilocal is the greatest! I had the fun task of explaining who Greg House* was to Michelle. «He’s a cranky diagnostic doctor who solves complex medical cases.» As she eyed my cane, «Oh, yeah, and he just happens to be a cripple!» The House getup was a success. Met tons of new people (Rachel! Xav! Jeff! Maureen! Don!), caught up with some I haven’t seen in ages, and drank some damn tasty and strong Makers concoctions. Favorite costume: Diana’s blood-​splattered Jackie O. (Sidebar: Too soon?)
Then The Sonics, Mark Anderson is in charge of the lighting for the Sonics according to my program. Marky Mark, what do you seek to accomplish with those blinding lights? To help multiple planes land on stage during the show? To leave everyone in the audience with a funny story to tell their grandkids when they’re blind? «See, it all started at the Sonics show. Oh, wait, this isn’t a funny story at all. To tell you the truth, it’s kind of depressing.» And the sound levels were just messed up.
The prelude to the show was fantastic. For that, 5 stars. To ape a hilarious Unilocaler’s pinko Commie dialect: Thank much goings toward Michelle and Katie for greats event and drinkings.

Meeting new faces, shout out Rachel, Taylor, Jen, Xav! Great to meet you! I know I’m forgetting a few names, but I’m going to blame the drinks! =D
Getting to meet Patrick G (who uses the alias Patrick T when concocting deceivingly delicious and definitely dangerous drinks) and Faith G.. excellent!
From reading these reviews, I’m going to add, slipping out for fresh air and to cool off… and slipping away before the concert? Good call.
Those of you who came in costume looked great! yay for me for guessing who ya’ll were correctly! ha!

Thanks, Unilocal ambassadors, for setting up yet another lovely Paramount event! Once again I was able to throw back Maker’s Mark cocktails thanks to the lovely recipes provided by Jen L. and Patrick T. (who’s that?) And, thanks to either the Universal Powers That Be, or else the predictability of the Paramount Club catering, I was once again able to stuff my gullet with brie, glorious brie. It was a distinct pleasure to meet new fellow Unilocal roustabouts in person. Heading upstairs to the actual venue appeared to be the last thing on people’s minds, given the grand old time that was being had in the Paramount Club, and the readiness of helpful, friendly, and engaged staff like Sean the bartender, willing to assist us in our endeavors to tie one on.
As for the show itself, the idea of seeing a band who had last played in Seattle since before I was on this planet was an interesting concept. The band sounded fine, great, in fact, and if I’d known any of their songs, it would have enhanced the experience that much more. I do think that decades that had passed were attempted to be made up for by cranking the gain up to, oh, 22 or something, because holy scheisse, my ears are ringing like a freaking bell right now. My own fault for not bringing my hearing protection, but it’s not often needed (as much) at a large venue like the Paramount. Even those diva whippersnappers Kings of Leon did not leave my ears ringing like these guys did. I can say pretty confidently that the excessive sound pressure levels did not enhance any sort of accurate sound reproduction. It just made things hurt. I considered leaving early, but I’m a completist purist apologist.
This said, I’ll be at any event our Unilocal our hostesses endeavor to schedule at the Paramount, readily equipped with custom-​molded SPL attenuation devices.
