While it is obvious from Kirk’s photos that he is an extremely talented artist, it is his preparation, attention to detail, flexibility, and good nature that make him an exceptional wedding photographer. Even though we had taken a pretty relaxed approach to wedding planning in general, neither of us realized how much emotional capital we had invested in the day until the morning of our wedding when the stress caught us off guard. Kirk immediately put us at ease as we were getting ready, and helped us relax and focus on just how happy we were. We chose to have a first look and pictures of ourselves taken prior to the ceremony, and Kirk had scoped out most of the surrounding area (a very large, national recreation area) in advance to find the best light, the best locations, and the fastest routes to access the greatest number of sites. We had so much fun moving between places, taking photos, and talking and laughing, and truly believe that this time with Kirk helped set the tone for the rest of the day.
Kirk was incredibly thoughtful and professional, and managed to somehow be everywhere and nowhere all at once. We’re amazed by how many intimate shots he was able to take during the ceremony and reception without ever being obvious or seeming obtrusive. And while he satisfied every request we had for important shots (including our VERY long list of group shots), and remained attentive to our needs throughout the day, he felt more like a part of the celebration and like the newest member of our tight-​knit group of friends.
We’re looking through our photos now (for the third time today), and are still overwhelmed by how well Kirk captured the best of us, our guests, and the events of the wedding in stunningly beautiful pictures. We truly couldn’t be happier, and we will consider ourselves very lucky if we’re able to work with Kirk again. For now, we’ll look forward to reliving our wedding every time we look through our photos. Thank you, Kirk, for everything.

We chose Kirk because his portfolio contained so many gorgeous, timeless, artful shots — no Instagrammy photo filters or a reliance on a contrived «wedding photo list.» I don’t think I can say anything about Kirk that is as persuasive as the gorgeous images you will find if you visit his portfolio site, but I want to share a few words about the experience of working with Kirk to photograph our wedding. Not only was he extremely responsive and surprisingly fast to deliver our photos, he was a calming presence and a pleasure to be around on the day of the wedding itself. If you are worried that posing for couple photos will be a little weird, fear not, Kirk will set you at ease and help you find natural, easy moments. He was seemingly everywhere at once, capturing many special moments without having had any real direction from us. The portraits he captured of our guests are stunning and pull my heartstrings — not to mention they are a very cool gift to share with the subject. We didn’t have a photographer at any of our other wedding-​related activities, and we didn’t have a videographer, but these photos are special enough that it feels like they are all we need and a worthy investment. We highly recommend Kirk.

Speaking from the perspective of an artist, I wanted my wedding photos to tell a story and to represent the ambiance of the event. After all, you spend a long time planning it (some their entire life). So I knew I wanted a true artist to be our photographer, after all anyone with enough money can buy the best digital gear there is and take a photo. A true artist is a world apart, Kirk is one of these.
I unfortunately have seen too many disappointing photos of weddings and seen all of the Judge Judy episodes related to those. We knew our wedding would be in a forest, at night, and feature a canoe. No easy task. When I typed these key words into google and searched on images, Kirk’s amazing photography popped up. I knew we had to hire him. Immediately.
He did not disappoint. Kirk shot our engagement and wedding and we now regret not having him there for the rehearsal dinner. Kirk understands the lighting of the moment and can find beauty in the unexpected details that go unnoticed. We felt like he was one of our old chums and he put us completely at ease (photos can be nerve wracking as we all know).
Our photos told a story in the most artful way and captured the night as we saw it in our heads. He listened, understood our vision and executed it. In fact, I still have a hard time believing that I look as beautiful as he shot me.
Isn’t that how it should be?

If I were to do my wedding over again, there is no doubt that I would hire Kirk as our photographer again. From our first introductory meeting with Kirk, he put us as ease and was warm and friendly. At the end of our meeting, he didn’t hesitate to affirm that he is the best photographer in the Northwest and that his work is unparalleled. We booked him shortly after and his photos are even better than he promised. We had so many family and friends tell us how much they enjoyed our photographer, before they even saw his pictures from the wedding! The first time I saw our wedding photos, I was speechless. And now I can’t stop looking at them. He captured the mood and spirit of our wedding perfectly and it is obvious that he is a true artist. Another aspect that seems to really set Kirk apart is how he can read each couple and wedding differently. He can really bring out different personalities in his photos, which can’t be said for plenty of other wedding photographers in the area that I researched. He is very precise in each shot that he takes, so that he doesn’t have to take 100 photos for each shot. Again, you will not go wrong in hiring Kirk. I can only imagine that his prices will get higher and higher as his demand grows, so make sure to book his services ASAP!

Kirk came out to shoot both our rehearsal dinner and the wedding. The guy was everywhere, but you wouldn’t even know it .Mr. Mastin is probably one of the warmest people you will meet, which was a welcomed addition to our special weekend. My wife is absolutely ecstatic over the pictures. She posted just about all of them on Facebook because she couldn’t choose between one or the other. His pictures really expressed the true emotion of not only my wife and I, but the guests as well. A 5-​star rating does not do his service justice. Thank you, Kirk, for capturing it all and being a part of a weekend we will never forget.

Kirk shot our wedding. It was a very small ceremony, early in the morning, with our families only. It also included a very small gathering at our apartment later in the evening.
Working with Kirk was a real pleasure. He was responsive, flexible and extremely friendly.

Kirk did an amazing job as photographer for our wedding, i would highly recommend him! Of course his photos are amazing — he has a great aesthetic and i really appreciated that he captured the small details of the wedding (that i worked so hard on!). I love that he used both film and digital — it really showed that he loves the true art of photography and the film gave such a beautiful romantic glow to the pictures.
Besides the fact that he is an amazing photographer, he just had such a sweet, easy going demeanor. It was important to my husband and I to have someone we felt comfortable with since we’re both pretty shy in front of the camera. Kirk was amazing. He made us feel so relaxed, and we felt like we could just be ourselves, which made the pictures come out so much better. He was like a sneaky little ninja during the wedding, he would just pop up out of nowhere — he was never in the way, but always in the right place at the right time — which made for some really great candid shots.

Kirk takes beautiful pictures — there is no doubt about that– but he is also such a great guy. He just makes you feel relaxed and at ease. He has such a kind demeanor that you instantly feel you can be yourself around him and that’s exactly how you should feel on your wedding day or anytime you’re in front of the camera.
He has a great eye, is a joy to work with, and gets you your pictures in a very timely manner. My husband and I loved working with Kirk and would recommend him to anyone looking for a photographer.

Kirk came to California to shoot my wedding. He did a great job. Absolutely outstanding.
– Every single photo is correctly-​lit and well-​framed. He will not hand you anything messy.
– He edits as necessary (e.g., slight crops) but doesn’t photoshop things into oblivion. I’ve seen wedding photos before where the couple have been Gaussian-​blurred into a glowy mess — Kirk doesn’t do that.
– The photos he gave us form a coherent storyline, with one great shot for each important moment (as opposed to handing us 2000 slightly-​off photos, which I’ve seen before from other photogs).
– He will do posed group shots, but his real strength is in individual/​couple portraits and candids. Our friends loved the photos he took of them during the reception, his photos now grace many a Facebook page.
– My husband & I didn’t want an album or prints; we wanted digital originals. Kirk’s standard package includes all of the digital originals, with no watermarks. This was a bug plus for us.
We did a lot of comparison shopping and Kirk was a bargain, even when factoring in the travel cost. His work is better than a lot of the photographers we interviewed with higher price tags, partially because Kirk doesn’t force you to buy an expensive album. We are very happy with our photos!

Several months before I got engaged, I was online looking for photos of Discovery Park, and stumbled across photos by Kirk Mastin. When I went to his site, I was absolutely blown away by what I saw. Far from the cliched, posed engagement and wedding photos I often see, Kirk seemed to capture the essence of his subjects — they looked calm, uninhibited, stunning. I was hooked.
Naturally, the first wedding-​related thing I did the day after getting engaged was to email Kirk and ask him to do our engagement photos. We arranged a date and time, and Kirk asked me to think of some hobbies or interests we could spotlight in our shoot. My fiancé was on the crew team in high school and college, and his family has a long history with the sport, so I asked about a crew theme. Kirk came through — big time. He was able to secure us access to the UW Water Activities Center boat house — the oldest in Seattle. We also got to spend time on the docks around the boat house, giving us beautiful indoor and outdoor photos.
In addition to the crew theme, my fiancé and I also wanted to do something a little. .. off beat. We wanted our last photo to be of us running off the dock, taking a flying leap into the water, fully clothed — taking a very literal plunge. Some photographers would have thought we were insane. Kirk loved it. He worked with us to make sure we’d get the shot just right (no do-​overs on that one!), and the picture came out beautifully.
When all was said and done, we ended up with more than 60 pictures of the two of us that we absolutely love. After nearly 4 years of long-​distance, we don’t have a lot of pictures together, and this gives us a wealth of wonderful images as we enter this next phase of our life.
If you want beautiful, timeless, thoughtful photos, Kirk is your man. I cannot thank him enough.
