I have chronically tight hips and I’ve received many different kinds of body work throughout my life from a variety of practitioners. I really enjoy massage, but I can tell when a massage therapist is sort of going through the motions without an understanding of how their techniques are affecting my body. I’ll never complain about a back rub, though. Rolfing is not a back rub. When Akira was working on me, it was clear that he was analyzing where an imbalance or source of tension originated and using pressure to alleviate the root cause of the imbalance. It can be uncomfortable, because those places are usually tender. But with time, you notice that those balls of tightness gradually release their hold, and you have a newfound sense of internal space in those areas. I recommend giving this a try if traditional massage is not giving you relief. I found it to be more effective.

Yesterday was my 3rd session of rolfing from Akira. I have to say I’m getting more and more used to this technique. It can be painful at first but after a session my body relaxes much more than a normal massage and I can tell my posture is obviously changed for the better. Akira is very patient at explaining what the right way of walking and standing should be and what muscle groups should be used.

Akira is thoughtful, listens intently, and very generous with his energy. I took advantage of his free introductory session and left feeling like I really wanted to pay him for the wonderful experience that I had. I am almost 40, have a few different injuries piling up and exercise daily. If you are looking to get your body back on track– give him a try.
