Salvadorean Bakery & Restaurant

I’ve had the pupusas here and they were great, but I mostly go here for the pastries. This bakery is legit, and this is one of my favourite places to go to in Seattle when I want to treat myself. Pan dulce and a cup of tea is one of those things that makes my soul happy. There is such a great selection here and I try to get something new each time I come. The empanadas de leche, viejitas, campanitas de fresa, and salpores de almidon are all really good. The Maria Luisa de leche is my all time favourite though. So good!

My husband is Salvadoiran, and that is how i got introduced to this style of food.
I just went here for lunch for the first time and it was fantastic. My co-​workers got the carne asada, which was a huge portion and very flavorful.
Myself i got pupusas– Chicharon and Cheese & Loroco (edible flower), both amazing. The tortillas were very well made, they are a bit thicker and denser than a mexican tortilla.
The curtido was very well done, i ended up purchasing a container of it for my husband, and some pastries to go.
Highly recommend!

Horrible beware do not go to this place, you will be highly disappointed. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Where do I begin, first of all my two little daughters and I walked in to place place earlier this evening to place a to go order of pupusas. After a few minutes of checking out their pastries counter and not being greeted or approached by any attendant, I finally asked a young man near the counter (who looked like he worked there) I needed to place my order. I placed my order of:
4 revueltas which mean combination of pork, beans and cheese (corn flour)
1 cheese and beans (corn flour)
2 cheese and beans (rice flour)
2 chicken tamales
He charged me about $ 27 for all that. I get home and the order was all wrong. The 4 revueltas are only pork. They also never included the 2 cheese/​beans made out of (rice flour). All the pupusas cheese beans are made of (corn flour). In addition the rice ones cost a little bit more, so they clearly charged me more but didn’t even give me the rice flour ones.
We just tried the pupusas and they are so average, being Salavdorian myself I know what good pupusas taste like. The salsa for the pupusas is bad too, totally watered down and bland. The tamales are dry and flavorless as well.
Never going back here.
Not to mention there is a sign at the door that says in Spanish «please refrain from talking on your phone while you’re placing your order with the cashier.» So clearly I was not on my phone and the young guy STILL got my order wrong!
There is another sign near the restaurant side that also says don’t let your children run around the place. How horrible is that? All these rules, and yet no customer service at all. As a parent I’m annoyed with that as I would never let my children run around in ANY restaurant, it’s common courtesy and common sense, what kind of customers do they target that they must remind them of this?

Yum! Never disappointed by this place. Great prices, staff is really friendly. Must stop if you’re in White Center!

I ate the talapia and it was a beautiful, delicious plate of food! The corn tortillas were fresh and addicting. I took home a le leche cake and it was very nice.

I’ve been coming here for years. The pupusas and panes dulces are my go tos they’re so delicious. They are pretty quick at making your meals and customer service is friendly! It’s legit salvadorean food here and the seating is good. I also like that I can pick up Yerba Mate here. It’s like a restaurant, bakery, and little store all in one. The cortido (cabbage) and salsa that comes with the pupusas are super good as well.

The pupusa was fantastic. My sisters loved their cakes and bakery items.

Excellent food! The pupusas are to die for, and the pan picante (scrambled eggs, cheese, tomato and peppers on a massive chive-​biscuit-​type thing) comes with a side of salad or chicken soup. The alfajores are splendid and not too sweet.

We ordered a cake for a party, it was pricey but I had heard it was worth it.
When I went to pick it up, it was stained a dark blue on its décor. Mind-​you, it was a light vanilla colored cake, which was much smaller than we had hoped.
The manager in charge brushed it off and said it was stained because they were working on another cake, then said it wasn’t too noticeable.
I’m writing this review because this bakery is not careful when making its cakes, so its not worth spending your hard-​earned money when you can pay the same price at a different bakery for better results.
All in all, the cake tasted good just the presentation was bad.

I buy treats from here whenever I need something for a party. Delicious! I love the guava cookies!

Wow… This is my hubby’s new favorite bakery for cake. He loves the tres leches so much that we’ve gotten cakes here for special occasions a lot. I guess the reason for the 4 stars would be how they take orders over the phone. I feel that their customer service isn’t great. Takes so long (on hold) for them to take my order. Also, the word anniversary was spelled wrong on my cake. other than the slow customer service, their cakes are delicious!

Very affordable but really mixed on quality.
The penguino (a chocolate cupcake filled with whip cream) was very dry and we couldn’t see the whip cream on the inside. The caramel tres leche cake was extremely moist but sickly sweet and very meh on taste. Shocking that a tres leche that we had picked up with our take out order from Taqueria Riconsito was soo much better. The one dessert we did like was a pastry with Salvadoran custard which was reminiscent to horchata.
Unfortunately we were running late and couldn’t wait for a pupusas and tamales order otherwise I would have loved to try this but based on their dessert I wouldn’t go back.

It was a bit pricy for take out… carne asada dish plate for 17 dollars! But enjoyed the dish. Side dishes and papusa were my fav.

Have to say… came in to try the tres leches cake and it lived up to all the hype. I enjoyed it very much. Cake was soft but not mushy. Next time I will need to try the tamales. My brother says its pretty good. I also dried the jalapeño bread. Wow it tasted better than I thought. It appeared dry but when I bit into it, it was moist. It had onions, jalapenos and was flavorful.

Ridiculously delicious. Son got Pollo Guisado and polished it off. Flavorful sauce. Daughter and I got 3 pupusas (revuelta, pollo, & spinaca), a sidemof yucca, and a side of avocado. Both the pupusas and yucca came with sides of tart, wonderful curtido. It was a feast. Even with a big horchata & leftovers, the total for the three of us was $ 36. And the folks who work there are kind and friendly. Go!

I loved their Tres Leches cake!

It’s ok. They use Cool Whip or something similar as cake frosting on all the cakes. Threw away Flan and Napoleon cake after 1^st bite because the taste was so poor. For the cheap price you get cheap ingredients, lower quality. As a snooty city dweller, I personally rather pay the extra for optimal quality. 2 stars for the savory jalapeño cheese pastry. Will I come back here? No.

Came in to grab a last minute cake for a friend’s birthday. They had quite a few on display, even though it a little late into the night. We picked up a cookies and cream oreo cake. It was cheap and delicious!
I have heard good things about this place. Have yet to try the food but planning on coming again really soon!

My wife is a Salvadoreña and pupusas are eaten multiple times per week in El Salvador. I had a couple when I was down there and several up in the states as well as homemade ones. She isn’t even mad at me when I say this bakery/​restaurant has the best pupusas. At least, I think she isn’t mad. I might pay for that comment later. I’ve not tried any other restaurant items because these suckers are so amazing.
We have had a handful of their beautiful bakery items as well and they’re authentic and delicious as well.

Such a solid place.
This bakery is so legit. Pastry cases full of delectable sweets, and the place doubles as a restaurant. Carne asada was great but as I looked around, everything at all the tables look delicious.
Next time I bring home some goodies.
I heard the breakfast is good also.

I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras and living there for several years gave me the chance to travel throughout Latin America. Every once in awhile I still get the craving for Central American pastries, especially since talking with a friend of mine from El Salvador about the different sweets they have. I promised her if I found a good Salvadoran bakery I would bring her back some desserts… And I did! :D
I saw this place on Unilocal and so I decided to check it out. For parking there is a huge parking lot on the side of it so park there.
As you walk in you are in the bakery side. On the right is a place to get lunch and dinner but I didn’t get anything to eat here.
As far as their selections go I was impressed. A lot of the typical fare and some other more American pastries as well. I am a total sucker for just trying different cookies so that’s what I did. I think they were .80 cents each on someone them. There is a minimum of a $ 5.00 charge on any credit card transaction.
The young man behind the counter was friendly polite and spoke perfect English. I was hoping to use my Spanish since I never get to use it much, but it was not needed… quizás la próxima vez?

They even have cakes for sale as well as other pastries. In the back of the store they even have some party supplies including piñatas. They also sell spices, other kitchen stuff and some bags of chips. I also saw they had fresh backed mini loaves of bread and cookies. They can also make coffee.
The guy was so nice that he took a bit of $ off my bill due to a mixup. :D
BTW… My friend from El Salvador loved the cookies! It’s good to make someone’s day!

I feel like a kid in a candy shop when I visit this place! Such a wide variety of authentic Salvadorian baked goods with a very friendly staff! I am getting hungry just thinking about it! :D Enjoy!

I have only had their desserts but heard the food was great too. Can’t wait to go back and try the food.

not much of a great taste. People talk about tres leches cake here, we tried it and i felt we have had better!
We ordered a salad with ranch and they said they are out of ranch after they served the salad!!! I asked if they can substitute with any other dressing, and they offered me ketchup or hot sauce!!! I think to myself. «What???»
I probably wouldn’t visit there again.

If you live anywhere in the West Seattle/​White Center/​Burien area and haven’t stopped into the Salvadorean Bakery and Restuarant, it should be considered a crime! This place has some of the best baked goods I’ve had.
We first tried the Salvadorean Bakery many years ago, when my mother ordered their tres leches cake for my high school graduation. She had heard great things about their cakes, but we had driven by the bakery countless times without giving it a second thought. She finally decided my graduation would be a good time to try it. It was SO. DELICIOUS. It was spongy and moist from the three varieties of milk used. It was sweet, but not overly-​so. The fresh fruit topping was the perfect addition to this already wonderful cake.
Since then, we have tried many other of Salvadorean Bakery’s offerings. They have a variety of other pastries, cakes, flans, etc. that are all truly amazing (and very affordable!). They also have savory goods, like soups and tamales. My mother absolutely adores their chicken soup. It’s clearly all homemade, which is hard to come by these days.
The service is always friendly to boot. The most recent time I stopped in, I had a nice chat with the gentleman behind the counter while he was getting my tres leches cake ready for a special occasion. Everyone is so nice in there!
I can’t say enough good things about Salvadorean Bakery. If nothing else, you MUST stop in to try their tres leches cake – they have small slices perfect for a single serving. You will not be disappointed!

They serve a full menu of food and case of bakeries, but I really just come here for the pupusas! I’ve probably only had pupusas one or two other times elsewhere and this place is my favorite for it. They’re like doughey tortilla stuffed with cheese/​meats. Around $ 2.75 each. The revueltas are my favorite with cheese, bean and pork, but honestly they all taste very similar bc it’s all kinda mushed up like a paste inside. Side note, horchata no bueno, very very sweet.

You know when you visit a new restaurant and you left with a feeling — I’ll try this place again.
But the second time you visited was such a let down and you wish you can time travel and make the first good experience stick instead.
This is that place for me.
The Food — it’s alright.
Pupusas — alright — so much better in San Jose, California area.
Pastries — mediocre, even the Chavez Market or Mi Pueblo markets had better pastries and cakes.
Service — OMG– SO F — ng bad. The guy with the glasses — one of the managers– really has something stuck up his A**. I don’t know what it was but our first visit — we had good service the attendant was answering all our questions and made recommendation and felt like we were welcomed– but this guy… really woke up on the wrong side of the bed. But we managed. We got our meal and again it was alright even though he steered me wrong — made the best of it, something new. After our meal — we decided to get some pastries before we left, to sorta give it another chance — OMG– that stick somehow got bigger. He was A LOT meaner.
I honestly do not know if we did something to offend him — the only think I could think of was the fact that in the beginning he tried speaking Spanish to me but I said I did not understand… I just looked like I did… so to my Filipino brethren — beware.

Super friendly! I loved their pastry case and bought some to take home, too!
I’ve been to many pupuserias throughout San Jose and the Bay Area. I’m a pupusaholic! I enjoyed Salvadorean Bakery’s red bean and cheese pupusa. I do wish they had a seafood pupusa, though. However, if they didn’t have a bean and cheese one, I’d have been screaming the place down! I also enjoyed their chicken pupusa as well.
I was not thrilled with their chicken tamale, though. Normally tamales I’ve had were warmed through — this was stone cold… a total turn off. I ended up giving it away to my friend’s husband. He enjoyed it.
The desserts we took home were pretty good. Snagged a chocolate hostess cupcake clone, pineapple empanada, caramel empanada and macaroons. They were all enjoyable and were consumed in 3 days.
It may be a while before I come back here, but it was worth the trip.

I am giving four stars because the bakery looks awesome. I have tried the bakery before and liked it a lot. We decided to venture out for lunch and tried a combo which had some very good items. If it was just lunch I would probably go for three stars. I will be back and looking forward to trying some new things.

I have never had tres leches cake so one weekend I decided to make the long trek down to White Center. We got a few of their bakery items — tres leches cake, blueberry puff pastry, some cake with yellow cream on top, and fruit tart. The tres leches cake was OK — I guess it was just not my cup of tea. It is literally soaked in milk as it should be. The other pastries tasted stale and at least a day old. I never figured out what that yellow cake was supposed to be. They were pumping out fresh cakes the entire time we were waiting for our food, and I’m sure those must be amazing.
We also had pupusas and tamales. I especially enjoyed the tamales. The ensalada beverage is a must-​order too.

I had take-​out dinner from here at the recommendation of a friend. We didn’t get any of the sweets or bakery goods, but the pupusas and tamales are amazing. I loved the plantains and the fried mystery starch. The salsas that came on the side were great — I will happily go back here to eat again, next time I’m nearby.

The food is really delicious here. The pupupas, tamales and plantains are all amazing. The tres leches cake is out of this world, and comes in many flavors such as dulce de leche, chocolate, and mocha along with the traditional.
What really pushed it to 5 stars for us though is the service, which has always been fantastic on our visits. We appreciate how they accommodate vegetarians, or those who don’t eat land animals. On our last visit the guy taking our order asked if I wanted the pork on the yucca even before I had a chance to ask to not have it.

I went here because of all of the great rating on Unilocal.I bought one of their fruit cakes filled with eggnog for my mother’s birthday. We all enjoyed it so much! It was so light, moist, and delicious! They even wrote Happy Birthday on there for me.
We were pretty hungry and was going to head to lunch afterwards. However, this place also has good food. We ended up eating here. Their HH is between 2 – 5. Pupusa and Tamales for two bucks. Not bad at all. They were very tasty. The pupusas being my fave!

Wow, I wasn’t expecting this. This place is easy to overlook when driving by with its drab exterior but I was blown away by the food. OH THE FOOD! I ordered some chicken Laroco or something like that. It was so good, I loved the really thick Salvadorean tortillas. My buddy got the carne guisada and it was pretty good too, he did say the meat was a little on the dry side but it tasted awesome to me.
The place itself isn’t fancy but it is clean and nice and bright. When you leave be sure to load up on sweets. OH THE SWEETS!
