History

Established in 1924.

A locally-owned, Northwest favorite since 1924, Swanson’s Nursery is located just north of Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood. Our European style greenhouses and five-acre nursery provide an amazing, year-round, sensory experience.

The history of Swanson’s Land of Flowers begins in 1922, When August & Selma Swanson came to Seattle and bought land «way out in the country,» and started the cultivation that eventuated into Swanson’s Land of Flowers. The know-how and the care exercised by the Swansons also built a reputation for quality and honest dealing that is second to none. Time passed and the expanding city encompassed the location More ground was broken and greenhouses added. Mr. Swanson passed on and his son, Ted who «grew up» in the business succeeded to management. He with the able assistance of his wife, Frances, continued to expand the operations. Wally Kerwin purchased the company in 1976 and has since updated the greenhouses converting former growing areas to retail space.
