The Crypt

I’ve been going to this place for years and sometime at the beginning of this summer it really took a dive for the worse. In the half dozen or so times I’ve gone to the Crypt to shop, they’ve been closed during their posted business hours. When I’ve caught them on a day that they are actually open during business hours, the store was lacking inventory and there has been drama with the POS system (cash only or cards only). I’m not sure how a business on Capitol Hill can afford to operate like this. I never know what to expect when I go their to shop — will they be open? Will my payment method be accepted? Will anyone be there working? Do they have a phone to reach anyone? It’s a toss up. Given the densely populated district this business serves and the demographic of alternative lifestyles on Capitol HIll, The Crypt could be thriving if it could get the door open and a way to accept payment for inventory.
My advice to the owners: sort out your POS (Square card reader, iPad, and solid internet connection) and relaunch your business. I hate to see you tank over problems that are easily fixed in this day and age.
Until then, I can’t waste any more time or energy trying to guess if they’re going to be open or not.

Ah. The good old Crypt. I am actually quite familiar with the Crypt because they have a location in Denver and I lived in and around there for a number of years. Technically I guess it would be two locations in Denver, one is a clothing, kink shop and the other is where the adult movie rentals, arcades and other basic adult «playthings».
I have been to The Crypt in Seattle a couple of times before I even moved here. If memory serves it was on Broadway at one point in time. It seemed much larger and had more interesting merchandise than what it does now since it moved to this location (already quite some time ago) it seems to just not have the luster it once had. Things seemed picked over much of the time. The clothing options seems very skant compared to their Denver location too. It is just something I can’t quite put my finger on but it seems like that the luster is gone at this location.
Of course Steve and I always like going to the back of the store to look at the naughty movies to rent but that seems about the main highlight here.
I wish I could be more excited about The Crypt like I used too. Maybe it’s me «being around the block» a few times since and getting used to the novelty of kink stores. Maybe this store just doesn’t have that much to offer (from my own point of view). Maybe it’s both.
P. S. The staff here have always been very nice, sweet and kind! No complaints there!

This is a pretty big sex shop that you can browse on your own without being bothered. A lot of different things, especially good if you’re into goth-​y stuff or a gay man. I really liked the way they decorated their mannequins! The outfits they created definitely gave me some fashion inspiration.

Great selection of items, much more than others in the area that seemed overrated. The 2 guys working the counter were so very nice and funny and made me feel so comfortable.

I needed a corset for an event. Not some cheesy tied up with ribbon in the back vanilla item, mind you. I’m talking about an ass caning, suspension, fire-​play of a good time style garment.
Of course I wait until the last minute and I go by the crypt on my way to the aforementioned event. I find a LOVELY garment. Silver brocade and incredibly stiff. I buy it and tell the nice young man at the counter that I want to wear it out and he offers to tighten it for me. Yay! Have you ever tried to tighten your own corset? It’s a nightmare.
I go in and put it on. Then he comes in and he pulls… and pulls… and pulls… «I think that’s enough…» «No wait! I think I can still get another inch or so.» Then he pulls and pulls… at one point I think he had his foot in the center of my back.
Then, it was beautiful. Of course I couldn’t breathe, but who needs air when your shape looks like that?!
They also have a lovely selection of toys and gear that I haven’t seen anywhere else in town — although readily available online, mailed to your house in an unmarked cardboard box.
In response to some other Unilocalers who felt that The Crypt is tailored to people of certain identities, I have to mention that the people have always been wonderful to me there — and I’m a straight, cis-​gendered female. In fact, what I’ve observed is that the Crypt always seems to have enough love for everyone!
Go there and enjoy yourself.

This place has a very comprehensive selection of toys and ‘bed time’ goodies. Seriously, whatever you are into, there is probably something for you. Even if you want to give somebody a gift. It’s fun to stroll inside without an agenda of buying anything, you get to look at things that you didn’t think people would buy, but now that you see it, it’s not a bad idea. There is a wide selection of things and different price ranges based on quality. Why not go buy some toys with your partner then stop by Pike Street Fish Fry for a celebratory fish and chips to commemorate the two of you getting laid tonight.

This is not for the faint of heart, aka your Lover’s Package lovers. And don’t go in here thinking you’ll make a kitschy Halloween costume where everything is sexy in that cartoonish sexy way — go to Castle for that crap. No, this is where you get your quality steel-​boned corsets and your cat o’ nine tails. If I need a corset this is where I go because those crappy ribbon-​tied things at the other shops are sized for teenagers. And the customer service here is top-​notch. True story, I went in looking to create a new character for a show in town, looked the clerk in the eye and said «I need a strap-​on harness and a comically large dildo» and he called me a sassy little licorice whip as he handed me the absolutely perfect items. But if you aren’t sure what you want, you can talk to them and they’ll come up with some options for you. Don’t be shy!

For a surprise gift, I went here to buy my partner specialty underwear. I was presently surprised to find an array of quality merchandise and several items on sale. Also, the store was clean and organized.

I truly like this store a lot. The only reason I’m taking away a star is for the limited selection.
They have high quality products (reflected in the price tags) that are built to last. The whips and handcuffs are are genuine and nice to hold– people who have used inexpensive knockoffs know what I’m talking about.
I like the glass case with small fancy items! Read: butt plugs, cock rings, etc.
They have a small selection of sexy clothes (That I would wear anyway) and the corsets were all super cute and fit well. They dont allow anyone with you in the dressing room– for good reason probably.
Pricey, but a comfortable store that looks like some effort went into it. It doesnt have the fluorescent lighting-​I-​used-​to-​be-​a-​pharmacy feel like Castle does.

I’ve come to this store twice a year for the past four years. Recently the staff seems to be pretty solid. There’s a real nice guy there with his cats tattooed on his hands. He’s always offered assistance, let my partner and I know the specials and let us take free stickers. Friendly and helpful wo being pushy. Clean, naughty store with fun, not lame stuff. My girl and I brought home a couple tshirts, fishnets and toys for under $ 50. If you have $ 200 in receipts, I think you get a 20% off coupon :)

Whoa. There’s a lot of fetish stuff here. Prices seem okay, not higher or lower than other shops of it’s kind. We took a tour around the store and left without anyone asking if they could assist. We didn’t need any help but it’s always nice to be greeted other than requesting I put my bag at the counter.

If you’re looking for higher quality costumes, corsets, tutus, leather, masks, straps or pleather than you can find at Castles, you’ll want to be at the Crypt. Or if you’re looking for giant King Kong dongs. They even had a horse penis replica. Wow. Just wow. We are in Washington, after all (oh Enumclaw, thank you. You’ve made us famous.). And something large and scary called an «Ass-​cavator» — it was something like giving birth to your head from your anus. YIKES.
For quality toys, though, unless you’re into the freakishly large stuff, I would just go to Babeland. But for additional kink and accessories, this would be your next best bet.

This is where the BF likes to go shopping when we are in Seattle. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that the store is for gay leather-​daddys. The BF almost always seems to find something in this store from leather shirts, pants, hats, and cockrings… ok maybe not the cockrings, but he always scores and comes home looking like Freddy Mercury.
The staff are always very helpful and super nice, and the prices are always totally decent. The store does carry a small amount of female leather/​vinyl and fetish wear, but its the kind of stuff that you see in most sex stores, and I find that the quality isn’t the best. They have a section at the back of the store filled with DVDs and toys, so all of your naughty fantasies can be fulfilled.

I want to start this update off by saying that in my last review I said this place isn’t really my scene, well things change, and people change and grow. *wink*
I just made a return visit to the crypt a few days ago and I have to say that I am vastly impressed with their new location… ok newer location it had been a while since I had been in there. Its so bright and shiny! Its not like its last batcave location where you felt dirty just going in… this is awesome, clean and super well organized. It has turned into a bright shining beacon of positive sexuality! I wish I had had more time to explore before my meter ran out.
The gal who helped me was amazing! I was soooo impressed! I remember the last few times I was in there the guys in there were creepy and kind of panty, now this adorable little thing bounced her way around the counter searching for a tape measure for me and yes she asked me if I needed lube or condoms as I checked out, which I appreciated.
The selection has widened, and the general outlook is much more cheery and positive! They had some awesome streetware too. Belts that just went on sale for about $ 10 with the coolest designs, i wanted to grab them all!
Anyways i’m bumping up my star rating and telling all you deviants and hedonists out there like me to run not walk to the crypt!

Now this is a sex shop. Not really for the beginners or weak of heart. But they are welcomed and encouraged. This store is for the freaks who are proud.
Tons of clothes to choose from. Cod pieces are the norm, gimp masks, rubber shirts, clinging sparkly things, and tons of corsets. A lot of sizes and they do on site adjustments though nothing custom. Very fun and informative staff. Don’t be shy, they like vanillas too. And are open to answer anything. Though expensive so make sure you know what you want.
