The Park at Northgate

These are very small apartments with very little natural light. The kitchen counters are the cheap spray on kind, and they have only recently upgraded their kitchen appliances to stainless steel. The way their corporate office deals with issues is very mediocre, and it takes forever for things to be repaired inside the units. Profiling from the lords was an issue and there had been very rude neighbors aswell. Not to mention the gigantic speed bumps become an issue, you will probably end up scraping your bumper or banging your rear exhaust on the ground.

I moved here in January 2015 and I love this place! It is super convenient to everything… Northgate Mall, QFC, Target, 24 Hour Fitness, Bus Terminal, parks, restaurants, gas, library and I5 all within 5 minute drive. Close enough to downtown Seattle too. (15 min drive) The maintenance guys here are amazing and super quick to respond to a work order. The ladies in the leasing office are ALWAYS so helpful and smiling. They also call residents by name which is very welcoming. We have a heated pool opened during the summer hours till super late. Grills are available for resident use during the summer.
Maintenance keeps the property clean. Even when residents place garbage on the side of the dumpster, it is gone before you know it.
Cons: I grill most of my meals and can only use the grill at the pool few months. New residents can’t have grills on their patio however residents who have been there prior to the change are allowed:(Makes no sense but it is what it is.
I’m tempted to move to a newer apartment but this place has so many good things that I am staying until I purchase a home.

My husband and I have lived here for a year and we’ve enjoyed it. The location is extremely convenient, the pool is great, things are well maintained, and the staff is friendly. The prices aren’t cheap for Northgate, but the units are more spacious than most other apartment complexes in the area. All of the units are at least two bedrooms and around 1000 square feet.

The apartments are very spacious. 1000 sq ft of livingplace. Very clean and nice. The pool in the summer is just georgious. I love this place. Moriah and Mary at the leasing office make living in here even more amazing. They are incredibly nice, helpful, and considerate. The maintenance is fast. I didn’t have many issues, but the two maintenance orders I made were fixed immediately. The location is perfect. Easy entrance to I-​5 high way and I-​5 express.

And if you are moving with your kids, the school that assigned to their address is very good school

My husband and I just moved out after living there for 4 years. We liked it just fine. It’s a good location and a solid place over all. The ladies in the office are really nice too.
The reason I am giving only 3 stars is because of a few things.
*The layout is funny. The kitchen is a cramped space that only one person can work in at a time. So is the bathroom.
* The washer and dryer are in the closet of the smaller bedroom (can be tricky if you have a roommate). It’s better then not having one I guess.
* Price is too high for what you get. I felt like we were paying just to have a Seattle address. There are really no frills with this place. You get a pool, a treadmill and a decent sized place.
* They will charge you a lot when you move out. Cleaning fees are expensive.
Overall, we liked it. We wouldn’t have stayed that long if we didn’t.

I had such a good experience. Mary was courteous and professional and accommodate us in getting us a home in the park @ Northgate apartments.

The property is amazing, nicely maintained. The units are great, spacious and comfortable.

So far so good!
My girlfriend and I have been living here for almost two months now. For what we’re paying the 2br apartment is very spacious, comfortable (washer/​drier, dishwasher, brand new stove, pool, gym all-​included…), quiet, with a pretty nice view and an unbeatable proximity to amenities — Target, Best Buy, the Northgate Mall, Regal Cinemas, you name it — it’s all a seven minute walk at most. What more, the area is beautiful and the complex is located right next to a small natural reserve with a babbling brook and a pond, as well as mallards, beavers (!) and other wildlife are pretty much in your back yard. Nature is close enough to access anytime, but not too close for comfort — it really doesn’t get any better for city living.
Mary and Mariah have been helpful, kind and informative in every interaction we’ve had with them to date.
We only needed maintenance once — shortly after we moved in we discovered a problem with the kitchen sink garbage disposal system — and at the very same day, the maintenance person (whose name I regrettably forget) came by and fixed it promptly.
Haven’t had the chance to try the pool yet because it’s still off season, but we’re stoked for it!
Overall we are thus far extremely happy with choosing to live at the Park at Northgate and I recommend it wholeheartedly to any person or family looking for affordable, comfortable living in this part of Seattle. I will definitely update this review if anything changes in the future, but, so far, I couldn’t be happier.

I have been living in The Park at Northgate for almost three years. The leasing office ladies are always very helpful. The maintain is awesome – they fix things on time and do it perfectly. The place is nice and clean. The surrounding is convenient –there are Northgate Mall, QFC, TJmax, Target, Transit Center and all the things that you can think of. The pool open during summer which is very nice. All in all I have been having very good experience with them. And I will totally recommend it. And I will keep living here.

So far so good. After observing the beautiful clean grounds, easy access to units, the nicely renovated unit, the maintenance crew at work and observing the quiet low keyed activity after 6 different visits, we signed a long term lease. Mary on the staff was thorough, gracious, detailed oriented and very helpful. We are very much looking forward to living here.

My husband and I have lived here for two years. Overall, we have had a mediocre experience.
The units: cheap carpet that falls a part, thin walls, poor ventilation, and cheap silver (not stainless steel) appliances.
Rent is reasonable and staff is friendly.
However, NEVER have packages delivered to the complex. Delivery drivers have no access to the buildings and management rarely let’s you know when you have something in the office.

My husband and I moved to Seattle (from Canada) over a year ago and we instantly found a home at Park @ Northgate.
We absolutely loved the location — Perfect for daily shopping needs, walking distance to the Northgate Mall, a Movie Theatre — with fabulous restaurants like Thai Fusion and Jewel Box (are amongst our favorites) Target, and Pet Co, etc, everything you need is so handy and convenient. Close to hubby’s work, downtown.
Mary & Mariah are lovely people who genuinely care about the tenants. They get to know you personally, which made our move from Canada that much more welcoming. I loved whenever I had to visit the office and seeing them, whether picking up a package or just for questions, they made living there pleasant, and they’re willing to help out any way they can, especially being new to Seattle I had lots of questions. A few months ago my husband & I were both going to be away and needed care for our kitten, Mary was open to suggest and recommended a kind gentleman she trusted and it was so so nice to have people who care and you can trust help you out. It is what makes apartment living that much more enjoyable, friendly people who genuinely care.
We enjoyed having access to a pool this summer, and the bbq too. :)
I would just suggest to be driving cautiously over those speed bumps, of course, in the parking lot since they’re pretty big — bigger than usual speed bumps. ;)
The apartments are seriously GREAT & you’ll not be disappointed~!! Affordable, 2 bed room with a FIRE PLACE — :-) you cannot go wrong! We loved it there!
We moved about a month ago, due to wanting more space and are renting a house in Lake City, but I’ve only been in this house a short while and already MISS the Park at Northgate.
We had it made there, and such affordable apartments for what you’re getting.

I’ve been living here since September 2013 and have had minimal issues. For what I’m paying I feel like I get to live in a really nice place with really great management and neighbors that don’t cause problems and are friendly!
Management is great and go above and beyond what I feel they should. Every holiday they do some sort of activity in their office, which is really sweet.
My apartment was clearly renovated recently and had a new paint job just before we moved in. It’s a decent amount of space for two people (especially the living room size) and I LOVE the real wood burning fireplace!
It’s in a great location – close to the 68 and close to the Northgate Transit Center as well as lots of shopping centers!
Overall, I really enjoy living here :)

In general my fiancé and I had an ok experience living here. We were in the complex for 2 years, which went through a management change about 6 months after we moved in. I’ll start with the pros and then move onto the cons.
Pros:
–Dog friendly.
–Nice landscaping (after new management took over).
–Assigned parking.
–Right next to the 68 bus line (or it was unless Metro changed the route).
–Close to QFC, Target, and Northgate Mall.
Cons:
–Poor quality of carpets, countertops, bathrooms, and entrance ways. The carpet is thin (not too big of a deal though), but comes apart at the seems easily and stains from the bottoms of the doors in the bedrooms and bathroom. We experienced a lot of mold in our bathroom despite always having the fan on day and night and constant cleaning. The entrance way does not have a buzzer or intercom for guests. Additionally, the carpet and windows in the vestibule were not cleaned during our time there (if they were there was no way to tell as the carpets were extremely stained and dingy).
–When we signed our lease the manager Tami was very helpful and nice. When the new management took over they seemed to be friendly and handled requests quite well at first. Picking up packages from the office became difficult. Whenever we stopped in one particular woman in the office was very rude and even when not busy told us that she needed us to come back later to pick it up. That is until we had water leaking through the ceiling of our bathroom right over the shower head. It took several complaints and weeks for them to send maintenance around to fix the issue, and even after fixing the leak and patching the ceiling, the maintenance guys left debris all over the floor of the bathroom and the walkway between the two bedrooms. Our biggest and worst incident with the management occurred when we moved out. We experienced major issues with them trying to make us pay for things that were normal wear and tear on the carpets (another example of wear and tear in the apartments is where another reviewer described the countertops coming apart). We found during this time that the front office was rude and unwilling to be helpful or discuss the problem. We were even sent a picture of a q-​tip that was left in the bathroom drawer after we moved out! Eesh, I knew I missed something during my cleaning.
–Despite having a nice greenspace, lots of residents failed to pick up their dogs’ waste and it accumulated to the point that my fiancé and I were reluctant to even walk on the lawn.
–In general, the apartment was very inefficient at maintaining temperature. We had to run the heater almost continuously to maintain 67 degrees throughout the fall and winter. Part of this problem is due to the windows being very thin.
–There is very little lighting in the units, so you either will need to invest in a TON of lights or just deal with dimness most of the year.
–In the two other apartments we have resided at in Seattle, our water bill would range from $ 30-​$ 45 a month. We NEVER paid less than $ 70 a month during our two years at the Park at Northgate, and we are very conscious of our water usage.
Overall a reasonable location and amenities (pool and small gym). Overpriced for what you will be renting and the model doesn’t depict what your apartment will look like. Keep in mind the buildings are older and expenses for heating and water will be high. Management will also make it difficult to get your deposit back upon move out.

I’ve been at The Park at Northgate for almost a year and half now. Most of the pros and cons of the other reviewers stand. Once in a blue moon, I too find that the water is brown, but it’s not that often and when I let it run, it usually clears up fairly quickly.
My biggest issues with The Park at Northgate are the prices and the management. I realize that that the Northgate neighborhood is being revitalized with newer, luxury apartment complexes nearby which raises the rental rates in the neighborhood, but to be clear, these apartments are NOT «luxury» apartments. They are bigger than a lot of newer apartments, but overall, not particularly spacious for a two-​bedroom unit.
At first glance, the rehabbed kitchens look pretty nice with stainless appliances and «granite» counter tops. But they are the very most basic, bare-​bones appliances you can get. The ovens are not self-​cleaning and they don’t have clocks or timers, there’s no ice machine in the freezer, etc. Also, every «luxury» apartment I’ve ever lived in includes a microwave over the stove, but this complex does not offer that which is particularly unfortunate because the counter space is so limited that a microwave takes up a lot of space.
The «granite» countertops are just a cheap spray coating and they fleck, chip and become discolored very easily. As I write this review, I am looking in to seeing if I can get them resprayed. I inquired with the management about having that done and they simply referred me to the company that does that who, in turn, said they’d call management.
The carpets are cheap and stain very easily. They remind me of those carpets made out of recycled plastic coke bottles. It could very well be what they are!
The Park at Northgate has a contract with a carpet cleaning company and charge almost 50% less than paying on your own. Unfortunately, the Park at Northgate won’t allow their tenants to benefit from that discount. This seems counter-​productive because if a tenant cares enough to have their carpets cleaned, they are going to take fairly good care of their unit.
There are other little tell-​tale details that you are not exactly living in luxury; no floor-​boards between the carpet and the walls; the walls are thin and there’s no soundproofing between units; the vestibules are shoddy; there’s no buzzers for guests or pizza delivery … tons of stuff of like that. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like living in squalor, but for the rents they are charging, it’s ridiculous.
And now for the management … they are very nice, but they are also in your business constantly. For example, I recently received an email from the management company about «people accessing my apartment through the windows.» (I live on the ground floor.) I told her I didn’t know what she was talking about and she said the neighbors said people were coming in and out of the windows. I told her that about a month prior, my son and I exited out the patio door which locked by itself, and were locked out after office hours and crawled in my bedroom window and that’s the only time anyone accessed my apartment through the windows (that I know about, anyway!). Even after that explanation, she emailed me again and said «I just don’t want the neighbors to see people accessing your apartment through the windows every night.» EVERY NIGHT? Do they even read what they send to their tenants before hitting the send button?
I seriously considered sending that email to corporate head-​quarters, but I don’t want to get anyone in trouble even though it would just likely cause more trouble for me.
One evening, my friend and I were sitting on my patio, and my neighbors, two very young women (who were drunk at the time), had some kind of verbal altercation with my guest, and they both came over to my patio and physically attacked my guest! Punched her, and knocked her down! The next day, I am the one who received a 10-​day notice for «fighting.» I explained the situation to management, but I’m not sure if I still have a «fighting» infraction in my file.
Noise complaints are common because the walls are thin and there’s absolutely nothing to stop you from hearing your neighbor vacuum or sneeze. No one is supposed to listen to music after 10:00 pm which sucks, because for the amount of money we pay to live there, we shouldn’t have to live like we’re in a senior citizens’ community after 10:00. I mean, forget about having that holiday cocktail party unless you shoo your guests out at 10:00.
Anyway, I do not recommend living here unless it’s a step-​up in lifestyle for you. As a step-​down, it’s depressing. I moved here because I’m trying to stay ahead of rent increases (which increase far more rapidly than my salary), so for me, it’s definitely a lower standard of living, but if you’re coming up from something shabbier, it’s not too bad.

We have lived here for two years and will be transferring to another unit in the same complex. The staff has gone above the normal of what is to be expected to handle a bad situation. I’m very great full and am happy to be renewing.

I thought I didn’t mind living here until I moved out and had a huge sigh of relief while exiting the building.
Pros:
— The staff is really nice and they responded to problems in a fairly timely manner
— The apartment has a good amount of space, recently renovated inside the apartment
— Big balcony
— Pool in the summer time
— Convenient location off Roosevelt
— Security patrol at night
— Grounds renovation done with landscaping
— Wood burning fireplace
Cons:
— Parking spots are small and awkward and often there is no visitor parking, no covered parking
— The water is rusty! (supposedly from galvanized pipes, but still gross)
— HUGE speed bumps! Seriously, biggest I have ever seen.
— I had multiple problems with not having hot water, that never really got resolved — whatever they did would fix the issue for awhile and then no hot water on a consistent basis
— LOUD neighbors — the walls are extremely thin so you can hear pretty much everything in the apartments next to you. most annoyingly screaming kids in the wee hours of the night and morning and a lot of late night praying
— The parking lot is not gated and is used as a walk through by Northgate pedestrians
— The entry ways to the apartments are extremely old and not in good shape at all
— no intercom
— little/​no notice if they are doing work on another issue and will be turning your water off
— with move out they said that they clean the apartment (which was already paid for in a deposit) and then in the walk through they went over things that weren’t cleaned, which is confusing so we will see if they give me any of the deposit back …
All in all, the pool and cheap move-​in costs are why I moved in last year, ignoring the warnings of previous Unilocalers. I would not choose this place again if I had the option; and there are tons of apartment options in the northgate area.

This complex has a luxury price with mediocre quality.
I’ll start with the positives:
They are trying to reposition these apartments to compete with the newer surrounding complexes, so the interior of the updated units are very nice, with updated appliances and washer/​dryer in unit. The little details are nice, like the stainless handles and the accent walls.
The complex is great if you have pets. There is a huge grassy area where your dogs can go run and play (and poop) where they please.
The pool is nice. And the gym room also. Parking is included with rent (it was when we signed at least.)
The Negatives:
When we put in our application, we were informed we would pay the $ 80 processing fee and if we were approved we would pay the $ 200 «refundable cleaning fee» and the deposit (told to us to be 1^st months rent) plus rent on move in date. We were approved for our unit… With an additional $ 1000 dollar deposit. What choice did we have, to pull out and be out $ 280 or suck up and move in for $ 1000 more than we were expecting (or forewarned) about!
Our dryer and garbage disposal wasn’t working and we called to have Maintenance come up. We had to call 3 different times, spoke to Mary twice and the other lady once-​over all took them 1 week to get him up. He came when we were working, took ALL of my (wet) clothes out of my washer, and threw them on the carpet… mind you my DRYER wasn’t working. And the garbage disposal was so messed up that the sink wouldn’t drain whatsoever, so I have to be very careful about what dishes I needed and washed, and they were piling up on the side of my sink. Mary called me after the maintence man reported back to her, she said that we were trying to wash too much stuff at once and that’s why the washer wasn’t working but that the maintenance guy fixed it. I informed her that my washer was not the issue and I called abouty dryer. She then said «yes, I know your dryer is trying to dry too many clothes at once». In my washer I had 3 towels and 1 baby blanket… which was now on my carpet all day, soaking wet. :/​THEN she said that we need to start taking better care of our dishes because the apartment is going to start smelling and that she can’t be having people complaining about us later??? This is ONE WEEK after my 1^st maintenance call that was ignored 3 times. She was very rude about it all, had me on speaker in the office as I could hear the maintence man talking over me in the background as the story convienently changed, and it makes me nervous about calling maintenance for anything when we aren’t there to monitor him.
When I go to the office to pay rent or anything, Mary always calls my 1 year old son clearly dressed in boy clothes and speedos in the summer «SHE» every time I go down there. It’s really frusterating after 6 months of someone correcting you, that you would listen and pay attention.
Our neighbors above us are very loud at 10pm every night, never fails, and goes on for about an hour. And the neighbor next to us is a smoker and in the «smoke free» units, so the hall always reeks of smoke and leaks into our apartment. The halls are not ventilated at all so you have no choice but to breathe it in.
The first month we lived here we got some aggressive letters from another resident placed on our car that informed us if we continued to park «here”(in our spot) that we were going to see trouble and that we need to move «or else». We talked to Mary about it and she seemed sympathetic about it and eventually it stopped somehow.
Our carpets upon move in were COVERED in dog hair and reeked of urine. We had Mary call the cleaners and they came back out, re cleaned the rooms. And it didnt help at all, they just covered the odor with heavy chemicals and an oily substance. I called again and she had him come again, he told me that there is nothing they can do because they already cleaned it, twice; and that he isn’t going to replace the carpet because he couldn’t smell anything. He said that the pet hair is actually just carpet fibers ??? What!!! We dealt with it ourselves and try to keep our son from picking things up off the carpet… so gross.
The old assistant manager that took care of us when we moved in (June 2012) quit and went to better things. She was very kind and helpful when we moved up here from Cali, and the Manager Mary and her new assistant are poor replacements, which makes us very nervous for our move out.
No place for kids to play. The nice grassy area is pretty much a dedicated dog park. There is always poop all over :(

Needless to say, we aren’t too happy to have chosen this complex, but are thankful for 6mo lease options. We’re moving to Ballard at the end of the month for $ 400 less per month, same size unit. We just got a notice saying they are raising rent another $ 150 dollars, too. No good, park at northgate.

I think most of the reviews on here are too old to be very relevant anymore. I moved in here June 2012 and I’ve like it quite a bit so far. The apartment is nice, and pretty cheap for the size. It isn’t an über luxury apartment, but if you are expecting that for less than $ 1300 then you are in for a disappointment no matter where you live.
I haven’t noticed rusty water at all. The place where it’s usually easiest to notice is your toilet, which will slowly become colored over time if it is a white bowl. Mine is still white, and never turns the pinkish/​orange that indicates rust. I got a Britta faucet attachment anyways because of the reviews, but don’t notice a bad taste when I don’t use it.
The management is really good here. There isn’t a whole lot else to be said. They’ve been very helpful whenever I’ve had problems, which is almost never. Super friendly any time I go to get packages or anything.
They’re doing a big landscaping thing right now, which is really making the exterior look nice. Though they did cut down a bunch of big pines that I thought looked nice and added some privacy.
There aren’t too many CONS, but here they are:
–Most of the people I’ve seen here are totally fine, but some are kind of weird/​trashy. I think you’ll find that anywhere that is fairly cheap. The people above me work out or something and literally jump around. Luckily this is only for an hour or so per day, and really it isn’t as bad as it sounds. There are a ton of smokers here, which I find gross, but whatever.
–The interiors of the buildings need to be renovated. The inside of my apartment is nice, the exterior is nice, but the stairs and such look pretty bad.
–The speedbumps could double as walls they are so huge. But I would rather that than no speedbumps since assholes with large mufflers would otherwise probably do 90 through the parking lot.
–There are people who clearly use the visitors parking spots as their permanent parking spot. They need to convert some of them to real parking spots, let tenants pay for an extra spot, then closely monitor the visitor spots to make sure people aren’t there permanently. It’s annoying when actual visitors can’t park.

I lived here for a few months with my Mom before moving out to Capitol Hill. I agree that the water was rusty, the stairways narrow, and the kitchens awkward, but it was cheapish for a two bedroom and it filled the need at the time. The tenants were the main issue I had– the caliber of people there was not exactly spectacular, even after I moved out (but continued to visit because my Mom was still living there). Cops were there all the time, someone overdosed seemingly every other week (usually people in the same handful of apartments– they got kicked out when the management changed), and lot’s of just not very classy people.
The last few months my Mom lived there there seemed to be a real improvement– new paint and renovations, and the caliber of people seemed to improve a lot as a lot of the druggies, junkies, and Section 8 recipients were kicked out– there were a lot of international students and visiting scholars/​professors working @ the UW. The owners were renovating a lot of the apartments, which is cool… But you’re still living in Northgate, which is still pretty ugly and is one of the car break in/​theft capitols of Seattle. They also got ride of the old manager who didn’t get rid of the slimy people and a new manager who really tried to get the slimy tenants out. Hopefully it’ll continue to improve.
