The Samarya Center

Here is a great yoga studio. This is not about exercise, it is about community and social change. I love this place but I don’t practice yoga there much because I need a strenuous physical practice to fine my personal balance and ease. I found that at samara though I love everything about their mission and fully believe in what they are doing with yoga, the actually classes didn’t usually help me wring the stress out of body the way a good yoga workout does. However for those who enjoy moderate yoga, please support this place. It’s a gem.

Words don’t adequately describe this place, but I will give it a try LOL! There’s a yoga studio on every corner now, (many of which are filled with hot, young, fit people) and it is really easy to find good instructors in Seattle. But the Samarya Center is more than that (although their instructors seem great as well), they really emphasize the therapeutic benefits of the practice. Anyone, regardless of age, size, income or fitness level can be comfortable here. Yoga can be life changing, but many people never give it a try because they don’t feel they would fit in at a typical studio. Here they seem to welcome everyone equally.
(Background– I was a fitness instructor for 20 years before leaving the industry to start a new career, mainly because I wasn’t thrilled with the where the field was headed. A place like this renews my faith in the industry.) Keep doing good work Samarya Center!

I love this place! My primary practice is Bikram, but when I want to connect with my inner self and reflect, this is where I go. First, the studio is beautiful with their flower and candle lit alter. Second the teachers are welcoming and make you feel that you really are in their care. With a wide variety of classes from gentle to vigorous there is always something to pick from depending on what my body needs. I especially like that they have several yin classes a week and added a yin and yoga nidra on Friday nights, what a great way to end the work week! 3 times a week, they also offer a free community silent sit — zen out before class!

I love the Samarya Center. I have been coming here for yoga classes for years. The classes are fun and the teachers are approachable, friendly and down to earth.
I have taken classes at other studios in Seattle and I keep coming back to the Samarya because it feels welcoming and real. They have mats and blankets and other props for free so you don’t have to bring your own or pay extra.
I particularly like that their focus is not fitness, but rather yoga philosophy and spirituality along with breathing and movement. That combination is hard to find in Seattle!
Their new space is really cool with tons of natural light and brand new hardwood floors. I’d recommend the Samarya Center to anyone!
And I just found out their free community yoga class is back every Saturday!

I’ve taken several classes here. I like the energy and community feel of the studio, and the yoga rooms are beautiful. That said, I did come to take class here one morning and the teacher didn’t show or call the studio. What can one say? Yoga teachers are often a little flaky and it wasn’t the end of the world to not have class. The front desk told everyone that we’d each get a free class, which was nice. I never heard anything after that. No phone call, no email from the owner, nothing. You’d think they could have sent out a mass email to all of us apologizing and letting us know we have a free class on file. Didn’t leave me with a good impression, and I haven’t been back since. It’s a shame because I enjoyed the classes up until that point.

We love the Samarya Center. It is a non-​profit yoga studio that specializes in bringing yoga practice to communities that might not otherwise have exposure to yoga as a form of emotional & physical therapy.
Classes are reasonably priced and the instructors are mindful of student’s individual needs. Plus, you can see Safeco Field while in reverse triangle pose. How awesome is that?!

This is one of the best yoga studios in Seattle. Classes are mindful of the eight limbs of yoga. This place also does non profit work making yoga accessible to everyone including people with limited means, physically and financially.
