Urban Animal

Urban Animal was great! Yesterday my husband and I noticed what looked like a skin infection on our pup’s leg and we decided it would be best to bring her to the vet since we have other animals at home who could be at risk of getting whatever she may have. I called and spoke with a woman on the phone who let us know that it was walk-​ins only and that they were at about a 30 minute wait. We decided to hop in the car and head right over. We walked in and were promptly given paperwork to fill out and were in a room in less than 10 minutes, with a tech in almost immediately afterwards. Both the tech, and vet, we saw were amazing! Super sweet with our pup and didn’t dismiss any concerns we may have. The pup’s infection ended up not being contagious and something that she was already fighting off — all in all, we left with some special shampoo to help her skin and a new vet we will return to if anything else comes up in the future! Great prices and great staff. I highly recommend Urban Animal.

I took my cat Matilda in for a check up. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable! The place was very clean and they are conveniently located in capitol hill right off of broadway. They are also open 7 days a week! Will be coming back!

I just moved to Seattle, and didn’t have a regular vet lined up yet. My sweet Daisy Mae had worms (YUCK) and I completely panicked. I am so glad I found Urban Animal, and plan to use them for any needs she has in the future. Everyone was so nice and knowledgeable, and didn’t make me feel like a crazy person when explaining to me that worms were pretty normal, and easy to treat. They were upfront about costs before they did any tests, and I walked away feeling reassured that my girl had been in good hands. I would definitely recommend this place!!!

I absolutely adore these guys. Everyone on the staff is courteous, professional and helpful. They make every effort to keep my pup’s care as affordable as possible too, which I really appreciate. They are very sweet to my pup and make me feel like she’s their favorite client every time we visit (I’m sure they’re allllllll favorites, haha). The veterinarians are very knowledgeable and always have answers to my questions. They also made an excellent referral when my pup needed to see an orthopedic specialist. I trust them with my dog’s care and I would recommend them highly.

Wow. I can honestly say that’s the best experience at a vet that I’ve ever had. I needed to get my cat micro-​chipped and dropped by after work with her. She was taken back almost immediately and only a few minutes later, someone came out to tell me she was already micro-​chipped. They kindly wrote down the number for me, and then didn’t charge me anything! Hopefully I’ll read this review in the future and not try to get her micro-​chipped again…

Three years later and we are still HUGE fans of Urban Animal! In January of 2015 I had to put my lab/​shepherd mix of 10 years to sleep, and they couldn’t have been more kind and caring. Since that time I have adopted a new dog who I now take there as well.
Even during the times I have walked in during a busy time of day, I have never had to wait for more than 30 minutes, and their prices continue to be incredibly reasonable.

The care my cat has received here has been phenomenal. He has been battling some serious health issues for the last month and Urban Animal has been a saving grace. Even when he is being super challenging to examine, they kept their cool and made a good plan of action. We don’t know what the prognosis is yet but we trust that they will help us make the right choices. We have probably called and talked to the tech/​vets there at least once a day, and even today they let us send them a video to see if it was necessary to bring him in. I can’t thank them enough and I am so pleased to live so close to this awesome place.

Updated review– we’ve been going to Urban Animal for everything since our first visit, and from my kitty’s surprise urinary crystals to my other dog’s surgery, they have continued to be the best. So on top of things! So knowledgable! So affordable! So convenient! I LOVE this vet.

I thought these were the professionals who know best and you can trust during those very serious times of need… But I learned they will send you home wondering while your baby gets more and more sick.
Let me preface this by saying my dog passed away 4 days ago.
Sunday: Wendy went to get her nails clipped and anal glands squeezed. The vet tech here said she was very wiggley.
Monday: a bruise showed up on Wendy’s leg.
Tuesday: blood was found in the urine. I took Wendy to the vet. The vet tech said it was not a bruise. I said yes it is. The vet thought she consumed rodenticide but took blood from two legs to be sure. The vet tech could not get Wendy to pee so I went with her, she was very pushy trying to rush us saying «come on come on come on» and «that’s it, I need to get back inside» we were outside for maybe 8 minutes. Wendy is 14, we are slow.
Wednesday morning: I took Wendy back in, both legs where blood was drawn were swollen and purple. The vet gave Wendy vitamin k, and gave me vitamin k to give to Wendy. The vet said they are purple because of internal bleeding and sent me home. I read online that when internal bleeding takes place because of rodenticide, the dog needs a transfusion. I read this on every site I came across. The only time that vitamin k works on its own is if the symptoms have not shown up yet.
Wednesday 2pm: I call to ask when should I take Wendy to the ER to get a transfusion. The same vet tech said to wait 4 days then they will talk with me. I asked again what are the signs that I should take her to the ER. The woman tried to tell me to wait 4 days again for the check-​up. Finally she said she would get the doctor. The doctor said I should go to the ER.
Wednesday night/​Thursday morning: first transfusion, second transfusion.
Wendy passed away on Thursday and I know nothing will bring her back. But I do think I should have gotten her to the ER sooner and that should have been recommended by the vet. They saw her rapid decline and sent us home, leaving me to call and ask when do I need to go to the ER. I don’t like how I was treated by the vet tech, and I don’t like how the owner called me to argue over $ 60 of meds that I never had the chance to use because Wendy passed.
My husband attempted to return the unused meds because frankly we just don’t know what to do. They could not take them back, and the owner of this establishment just gave me a call about it. She started off by saying we need to come to an understanding… She kept saying if returning the meds would make me feel better then they would do so but it won’t make anything better. Of course it won’t. She made it sound like a huge concession on their end and stated how they didn’t charge me for the second visit. In the end $ 60 means nothing to me when we spent $ 3000 for emergency care. It isn’t the money, it’s the principle.
She talked over a crying grieving person. She kept defending her practice saying because when cancer was brought up, I said IF that was the case, I wouldn’t want to put her on kemo (down the line), therefore that’s why they say they did not recommend my taking Wendy to the ER — she actually said they ASSUMED I would not take life saving measures.
BULL SHIT. Anyone who knows me knows that when it comes to Wendy I would give her the world. There is a difference between 1. recommending going to the ER for emergency care, 2. recommending end of life care, and 3. discussing harsh medications for an extended period HYPOTHETICALLY BECAUSE NOTHING WAS DIAGNOSED YET. The first two were never discussed.
The owner could have called to say I’m sorry… This sucks… We could have done better. Instead she called and seem to want to let off steam on me. I don’t know why, I did not call her, we did not make a scene.
The whole experience and conversation with the owner left a very sour taste in my mouth and made it all the worse.

I have been a dog owner and lover of dogs forever. I needed a first time vet for my most amazing dog Violet. She is a rescue Yorkie/​Shitzu. They made everything so easy and welcoming. I had high anxiety about the bill and what a relief!!! Great Vets and staff

Nice and clean clinic conveniently located on Cap Hill. I came in on Monday at 6pm for a walk in with my new pup, Ruby, for an examination, vaccines, & deworming. It got pretty busy after I came in but I was able to be in an exam room within 10 – 15 min. The assistants and technicians were very informative while also being straight to the point. My puppy was finished with all her stuff before 7pm and it costed about $ 90 for it all. I got a free anti heart worm tablet and a 30-​day trial of insurance. Very nice, professional staff. I will absolutely come back to this clinic again. There’s a parking garage below the building with a spots reserved for Urban Animal customers so don’t waste your time searching the area for parking!

So far I’ve been very happy with this vet for my cat. I was leery at first given the walk-​in only style because as I’m sure we can all imagine this type of style could easily go sideways. Urban Animals on the other hand has this down!
Given there are no appointments (except for surgeries), if you are able to, it’s good to try to plan your visit around their busy times. That being said I’ve always been there on a weekend and haven’t had to wait to get into a room for more than 20 – 30 minutes or so (one lucky Saturday afternoon I got to walk straight into a room!). Their hours are pretty awesome (8am-​8pm, 7 days a week) so it’s really easy to work it around your schedule. The folks at the front desk have also always been pleasant and helpful to me, both in person and when I call in.
Again, because there are no appointments, you see a variety of different doctors. I’ve been super impressed because every time I take my cat in we’ve seen a different doctor and every single one of them was fully up to speed on what my cat’s history is and what my current visit is for. I’ve struggled to find doctors at every other vet I’ve ever been to that has that type of service — I’ve always felt like I have to re-​explain everything each time I’d see a doctor at other places. Never at Urban Animal.
I’ve also been happy with the personalities and service that I’ve gotten from each doctor. My cat has gone in for regular check up visits and more recently for some bowel issues. The doctors are excellent about explaining what’s gong on in terms I get, answers all my questions thoroughly, and make reasonable recommendations. I also don’t feel like I’m getting pushed into services that I don’t want. And bonus — I feel like their pricing is really reasonable as well! I think they are able to keep costs reasonable given their flexible service style.
Basically — take your pet here — you won’t be disappointed!

We took our small dog (~10lbs, mini poodle/​schnauzer mix) to Urban Animal because we found a concerning lump on his neck. I was really worried and wanted to bring him somewhere ASAP. Essentially, we brought our dog to UA because it was the only close-​by vet that was open on Sundays… But I will be bringing him back for all future needs!
They were so helpful and courteous. The front desk coordinators made the check-​in process easy and the veterinarian was amazing! Dr. Kristin Repyak is who we saw. She was extremely kind and clearly knowledgeable in her field. Dr. Repyak walked us through everything we wanted and needed to know about our dog.
Our dog had to have a cytology lab sent out of the cells within the lump on his neck. They provided us with the results promptly (within three days) and luckily the news was good.
Additionally, their prices aren’t anything crazy at all. I was worried I’d be $ 1,000 in the hole by the time we got everything figured out, but I only ended up spending less than $ 250 (cytology lab — $ 133, Heartworm/​flea meds for 3 months — $ 40, aspirate/​needle to extract cells — $ 24, and consultation/​exam — $ 45). While $ 250 is obviously a large chunk of change, I definitely expected it to cost more for the cell extraction, lab, etc. Very reasonable and no complaints here!
We will definitely be bringing our dog back to UA for his future veterinary needs and highly recommend both the office and Dr. Repyak! I could not have asked for a better experience during a high-​stress, worrisome time.

There are no words to describe how grateful my family is to Urban Animal. A few weeks ago we had to put our beloved bulldog Pork Chop to sleep due to Lymphoma. I called a few Vet’s in the downtown area: one wanted to charge us EXTRA to be in the room with our dog and another was charging $ 450 for euthanasia with a private cremation. Urban Animal’s price for our dog was under $ 250.
We called and told them we were headed in and they suggested that we fill out the paperwork online so that we wouldn’t have to wait in the lobby. We showed up and they immediately asked if we were there with Pork Chop then swiftly placed us in a private, clean, warm room. There was a blanket on the floor and Porky was so calm and comfortable that he fell right to sleep. Instead of asking us to come out front and pay, they came into the room with a Square device to take payment.
We showed up late into the evening and Urban Animal had closed during the procedure. They assured us that we could stay with our departed Porky for as long as we needed.
It was so devastating but Urban Animal, their staff and Veterinarian Kristen Repyak were phenomenal. They cared and were kind. I can’t thank them enough.
You’re doing it right, Urban Animal!

It was Memorial Day and our puppy had the poops. The explosive diarrhea poops to be exact. Me and my boyfriend were worried, tired from waking up every hour to take him out in the middle of the night, and poor Atlas the pup was shitting his brains out. No one was happy.
We had just moved from South Seattle and hadn’t found a vet yet, let alone one that would be open on a holiday. After some serious googling, Unilocaling and lots and lots of trips outside, we finally (initially, reluctantly) decided to take him to Urban Animal. We assumed because of the location in Capitol Hill, and the holiday, we were going to end up waiting forever and paying a fortune. In fact, just the opposite was the case. We were in an out in about 40 minutes, the cost was reasonable and they didnt try to give us unnecessary medications or treatments. We have since taken him back there twice, once for some puppy wart and this past week for his annual vaccinations. I am constantly impressed by this place.
During the vaccination appointment we had with our past vet last year, our dog was terrified. He squealed with every needle poke, and it took 2 people just to hold him. When only 1 tech at Urban Animal was able to poke him 3 times in about a minute with no Unilocal or panicking, I was honestly completely taken aback. And then when we went to pay the bill, I was expecting it to be well over 100 dollars for a set of 4 vaccines. Nope. $ 65. Completely reasonable.
Where else in Seattle are you going to find a vet that:
–is open 7 days a week, including holidays.
–takes walk ins with no appointments needed. You can go on your schedule
–has free parking
–Has very reasonable prices
–Has a well trained, friendly, and professional staff.
Urban Animal was our choice when we didnt have a lot of other options, but now, they are our regular vet. This vet is seriously great!

When we moved to Seattle last summer, finding a good vet for our beloved kitty was one of the things that we were a little afraid of.
We found Urban Animal here on Unilocal and chose to use them because of the raving reviews.
We’ve used them three times now and all of the visits were the same, so here’s the gist:
* The «lobby» is stylish and has a very relaxed vibe. You can tell that it’s different because all pets that I’ve seen there are calm, no barking or meowing.
* Staff is super friendly. They answer questions, ask for feedback, take their time to say hi to the animals,… the whole thing.
* Vet Tecs and Doctors are friendly, competent, take their time.
* They do walk-​ins, so you might have to wait… that said, wait times have been been short. Like 5 – 10 minutes. A no brainer, really.
Good to know:
* It’s 45 $ for a visit & consultation with a doctor for a cat.
* there is FREE parking in their garage (the entry is just right of their office). If memory serves me right, it’s a right turn once you enter the garage, then you go left, pass the «bank customer”-parking, and then another quick left.

So impressed, and I am VERY picky about vets. The other night, I came home and my cat was very very sick — as in, I’m frantic, and we need an emergency visit. Luckily, a friend was over who uses Urban Animal just down the street from me, knew they were open, you don’t need an appointment, and that she has been very happy with them.
We rush over, and I note the young man working one of the two check in/​registers is taking some time with a man who keeps talking about nothing much really. With a yowling cat I’m a little impatient, then I notice the box… THE BOX. That one most of us have had to pick up someday as the shittiest trade in the world, the ashes of your beloved pet. I appreciated the kind patience being shown to this client, sat down and worked on settling my kitty down.
Quickly that was over and we were shown into an exam room — very clean and cute, just like the entrance. Most vet places have an ambiance that only adds to a pet’s stress but this was very calming. Unfortunately, my cat was not feeling very calm and started to do the freakiest open mouth thing like his jaw was stuck open as wide as possible like he was going to turn inside out like some demon creature but no retching. I ran out in a panic to the tech (possibly Jen?), she immediately ran in with no annoyance or reluctance, saw him and rushed him to the back right away.
We saw Dr. Irwin, and she was really great about talking everything over with me. I have a pretty good amount of veterinary knowledge, having worked at a clinic for years, and heavily in rescue for decades… so just enough to be annoying sometimes. And my cat’s condition was serious and perplexing. I was really torn about what to do, because things just didn’t add up. So Dr. Irwin sat down, with no irritation, and started brainstorming with me… and she landed on it. Though I have very few toxins, did turn out he got into something, and though it was rare, with few cases really documented, it made the most sense. We agreed on a treatment plan, and my cat was 100% better next day.
Everything about the clinic, from the feel of it, to the staff, was 5 star. That wasn’t fun, but I am glad I learned about this clinic so close, and really appreciate every aspect of how they handled things that night. It’s no surprise I see a LONG line of 5 star reviews below.

My wife and I are new to Seattle and I spent a ridiculous amount of time looking for a vet for our furchild. I figured that Unilocal wouldn’t let me down and OMG Unilocal DELIVERED. Everyone we encountered at Urban Animal was so friendly and knowledgeable and down to earth that I felt like we had been going there for years.
We didn’t make an appointment but were seen within 5 minutes of arriving on a Tuesday night around 6pm.
Our vet tech was awesome and knowledgeable and just all-​around amazing. She and everyone else at Urban Animal had a great way of calming down our crazy, nervous terrier. She asked us a few questions and answered all of our crazy questions and I was instantly assured that we were in good hands.
Then the vet came in. Cherri Trusheim. You’re amazing.
You know when you talk to someone and you can just tell that they’re genuine and awesome? Yeah. That happened. Immediately. I could instantly tell that she was making recommendations based on what was best for Zuzu and not her bottom line.
Ugh. I love this place. Like, our dog has weird eye issues and I’m terrified she might go blind but everyone put us at ease and I probably would’ve cried at any other vet but I didn’t cry here because everyone was just so nice and sincere.
Anyway. I’m yammering on. I’d say «I hope we get to go again soon!» Except I don’t. Except I’d totally just go hang out there if it was socially acceptable. Also, did I mention it’s a really cute office? Like really cute. Oh and they do nail trims.

My boyfriend, myself and our dog Charlie just moved to Seattle from L.A. After asking around (and checking Unilocal) Urban Animal was the unanimous choice for vet care in the Cap Hill area. After our first visit last night, I can see why.
I initially wasn’t a fan of the walk-​in hours because I know I’m going to wait a while if it’s not an emergency, but the office was surprisingly empty for 6 PM on a random Thursday night. We got in a room right away and waited maybe a total of 20 minutes over the whole visit.
Everything is paperless, my online check-​in went through no problem and was matched up with the records emailed from our previous vet. BONUS: Both our tech Julia (or Julie?) and the vet actually looked at his past records.
The vet was really informative about the causes of allergies, although some of it was the same spiel I’d gotten from our vet in LA (fleas, food, environmental). I’m hoping the food trial solves his problems, but if not, hopefully the next visit is a little more informative about the next steps we can take. Really glad we finally got a prescription food, because the last vet just told us to pick a single, novel protein food and I suspect that didn’t help because it’s difficult to find a food with ONLY one protein and zero contamination with other protein sources.
We walked out with two different meds, shampoo, a big bag of kibble/​canned food and the bill was a lot less than I was anticipating. Julie/​Julia explained everything really well before we left.
Super happy to call Urban Animal our new Seattle vet!

This place is amazing. Brought my cat here after trying one of those cat only places. I liked UA much better. Very open waiting area and not too cold or hot exam rooms…
Turns out my cat had a mast cell tumor. On her chin. Insert cat mommy freak out moment here. UA kept me calm and informed me about my options in addition to cost up front. They called me when the surgery was done to come get my kitty and called in the next few days to confirm they got good margins and not to worry, it likely won’t return. In the end, the procedure cost a lot less than anticipated (it was less than what I was quoted actually) and the experience was very smooth.
If you come right at 8 there’s usually no wait. AND there’s parking downstairs.
