Olson’s Resort

Parked our van near van riper’s resort overnight and didn’t realize the land was owned by olson’s. When confronted about it the next day we immediately owned up to having parked there. We said it was an honest mistake as we have parked there numerous fishing trips before. We were happy to pay $ 25. But the new owner wanted to be a dckhead about it. And accused us of staying there multiple nights in a row. «I wanted to see how honest you would be». Well I flew in from California the previous morning — so only a one night stay, Dckhead

We were in town for the weekend and needed some fishing 101 advice. Several of the employees at Olsons went out of their way to help. There is a fish identification poster on the wall, and learning what NOT to catch/​keep made us have a much more pleasant «self guided» fishing trip.

This was our first visit to Sekiu and it won’t be our last. We had so much fun we can’t wait to head back in Oct. I give it 4 stars only for the rather basic accommodations for the cost and run down nature of the place but gotta remember that 1) everything out that way is expensive and basic 2) it is a fishing village and 3) new owners are making dramatic improvements via their 5 yr plan.
The best part about Olsen’s is the Mason family and their staff. One word… WOW! They are so friendly, accommodating and over the top willing to help you in any way. They are certainly in the right business and we will come back for that reason alone. Great job!

We just spent 7 days here and had an awesome time! The new owners and all staff were so amazing! They all treated us so well and we can’t wait to come back. There is a lot of work going into the resort and obviously everything can’t be done at once! It was incredibly clean and we were so impressed with the constant upkeep of everything! Everyone went out of their way to treat us great! Keep up the good work we wouldn’t stay anywhere else!!! I highly recommend this resort!!! Great fishing, Great people!

My family has spent every weekend for many summers camping at Olson’s Resort and over the years it began to fall into disrepare. …this past winter it was purchased by new owners who have worked really hard to clean up and repair years of neglect. This is my first weekend back this summer and the progress is amazing! They have wonderful plans to make this resort a first class destination. As with any large project it will take time… but in just a few short months the difference is clearly visible. I encourage those who may have been disappointed in a previous stay to give it another go… keep up the good work Mason family!

This place was kind of a nightmare, but I’m going to be kind with a 3-​star rating here because a) we came during off-​season b) room was $ 65 c) a new couple just bought the place and plans on fixing it up a lot over the next few years according to this article:
That said, for anyone thinking of staying here anytime soon, you deserve a fair warning:
1. The place is creepy in the off-​season. When my boyfriend and I arrived late on a January night, we realized we’d be the only ones staying in this secluded part of Sekiu. We felt pretty vulnerable, but obviously survived.
2. Room was freezing and took forever to warm up. I had called ahead and said we’d be staying there, but the owners didn’t warm up a room for us. Instead we turned on the heating ourselves and spent the first four hours of the night there dressed in all the socks, sweater and jackets we had while cuddled on the bed. And the bedding is hardly anything on its own — very thin blanket and comforter. I eventually took a hot shower and then put all the warm stuff on again. By 2 a.m., we could finally take some of the clothing off because the room was finally warm enough.
3. THE CAT — the gaddamn cat. There’s a stray cat that literally sat outside our door and meowed until we finally turned off all the lights and were completely quiet. So that was 3 – 4 hours of a cat meowing outside of our door.
4. Room itself is generally old/​crappy as you can see in one of my photos. It definitely needs some renovation!
So why did we stay here at all? A lot of places are closed in the offseason, but this one wasn’t. It was also the closest open place to our hiking area near Ozette Lake. Everything else is about a half-​hour more away. If I could do it again, I would have stayed in Neah Bay or Forks and just deal with the extra driving time.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS «RESORT»! What a dump and totally overpriced. We were invited by friends to go fishing for a weekend. Admittedly they warned us not to expect much. Ok, no problem, we have stayed in questionable places before. Let’s just say this: All of the ‘camping cabins ($ 65/​nt+) & stand alone houses’ ($ 200/​nt) should have been torn down 15 years ago. Swallows had apparently been living on the rear open-​deck of the standalone we were in. The toilet was not completely bolted down — be careful there. Had to call maintenance as the bathroom sink would You did not want to sit on any of the furniture for fear of something crawling out of it. All the appliances in the kitchen needed to be replaced (circa 1970). Fortunately we took bedding with us. Ended up putting our sheet on top of their comforter and using our own blankets. Lets just say that obviously the owners are taking any profit & spending it somewhere else. Can’t speak about the camping area. It looked fine and there is a ton of it. The marina was ok. Slips were in good condition, the ramps needed to be pressure washed (very slippery with seaweed/​moss) and repairs were needed.
