Absolutely delighted how beautifully my home remodel turned out; I urge anyone considering a home remodel to use Best Builders and general contractor Roei Gruenberg. Roei from Best Builders transformed my charming but simple post WWII tract house into one of the most elegant and comfortable custom homes I could imagine, at a reasonable price and with construction completed just over two months.
I interviewed eight other contractors. Of those eight, one other also impressed me – Jim Groesbeck from Groesbeck Construction. He was very knowledgeable and seemed honest and kind. But only Roei from Best Builders showed the vision and imagination to save costs by using my existing structure. He detailed a plan that did not add square footage by extension or a second story, yet in reconfiguring the house interior, gave me the room for everything I needed, including a modern kitchen and elegant master bedroom suite. It was not a perfect experience. There were rough spots, disagreements, and other extra costs – not everything was a walk in the park. But bottom line, Roei said that once he was done with the remodel, I would not want to move. And he delivered. Details follow.
Whole house (3bd/​2bth) gutted house except for two bedrooms which just got new hardwood floors and paint. All the other contractors I interviewed agreed about an open floor plan. Only Roei surprised me with a different idea – to keep the front closed off and converted to a master bedroom suite from the former kitchen, guest bed, and guest bath. Then to open everything past that point so that the house would have a natural flow to the backyard. Brilliant. Further, he told me I could continue living in the house all through the construction – (that worked except for 2 weeks of hell). I am not a visual person, so I actually made him place stickers all over the house so I could get used to his dramatic restructuring. After a week walking around the house looking at those stickers, I finally got what he had in mind and decided to go forward.
Here’s what went really well:
*the architect from Best Builders made Roei’s plan very clear and easy to see. Other contractors who saw the plans were very impressed with its level of detail.
*Roei created a contract that was easy to understand and was flexible when I asked to hold back a larger amount for the final payment
*Construction went on schedule and workers were all pleasant
*a storage container was delivered and I was given sufficient time to pack up my entire house
*The major construction work was of good quality without shortcuts –specifically the foundation support, the flooring, the framing, the plumbing, the tiling, the windows, the electrical, and the ducting
*Mistakes were corrected without argument, even when costly – one worker damaged an expensive new window and it was simply replaced. After construction was completed, many issues remained and Roei systematically rehired people to fix them.
*After demolition and the framing and installation of windows, the house immediately took on a new shape and had a new light that was an exciting improvement. And the feeling just kept getting better as the construction continued.
Here’s what did not go really well:
*My backyard became a trashpit, plants destroyed. Inside furniture not properly covered and got scratched
*my material costs in addition to construction grossly underestimated – floor, tile, fixtures, appliances, etc.
*Painters terribly sloppy – painted over everything and it took days to clean with my supervision
*several small important details missing – ex. no place to put a trash container in the new kitchen!
Remodeling is complex in detail, but it can turn out great with a good design, good contractor, and client willing to be present to make decisions on the details that emerge. Go for it!

Best Builders & Development did an amazing job on my home construction and remodeling project. The scope of the project was the addition of a master bathroom, walk-​in closet, 4^th bedroom, laundry area, dining room extension, complete kitchen remodel, garage extension, complete exterior and interior paint, and the removal of the wall between the kitchen and living room. Best Builders gave me a very competitive quote, and had the best presentation out of all the contractors that we interviewed. From the very beginning they communicated very well — they said what they were going to do, and they did it. They work quickly, and they do a very high quality job. The entire project was completed in only about 5 months! One of the project managers came to the property daily to check on and manage the entire project. I am especially pleased with the beautiful tile work in the bathroom and the kitchen. Roei, Ron, and Aaron were excellent to work with. They are very professional, listen well and give good suggestions, return calls and emails, and they weren’t done with the project until I was completely satisfied. Both my wife and I are very happy that we chose Best Builders. I would definitely recommend Best Builders & Development for a stress-​free and worry-​free construction and remodeling experience!!! We highly recommend Best Builders for their quality work and professionalism. We love our newly remodeled home. Aaron and Ron made a great effort to work with us and accomodate our needs. Either one or the other visited our site daily to check on the progress of our 4 month project. Our house was completed in the Fall of 2013. But I am writing now b/​c I recently informed Aaron that a large bathroom mirror was showing dark blotches. He apologized and replaced the mirror at no cost! They definitely stand by their work. Would love to work with Best Builders again.

My husband and I have had an excellent experience with Best Builders and Development Company when they recently remodeled our kitchen. The owners, Aaron, Ron and Roie know the meaning of Customer Service. They were priced fairly, their people did outstanding work and they worked around our time schedule. One of the owners came to our house every day to check on the work and the progress. All calls or texts were answered in a very timely manner. No problem was too big! My kitchen looks great. What a wonderful change from a very dated look. They refaced our cabinets, put granite on our counters, new floor and sink. I brought in new appliances. Bottom line: They did what they said they would do and did it in 3 weeks. We will hire them again for another project. Very pleased.

Aaron is my neighbor. Initially I was a bit reluctant in hiring him as one never knows the outcome of a remodel job and does not want to be in bad terms with a neighbor. Nevertheless I decided to move forward with the project and trusted him and his team. I am extremely satisfied with his work. I had a wall completely taken out and put a window instead, built a soffit in one of the walls in the living room, and the fireplace pushed back into the soffit, had recessed lighting put in, among other things. His prices were very reasonable, and very importantly, his timeline in finishing the work was spot on. I highly recommend him!

Hire at your own risk, they did nothing right, I’m still repairing what they did years later. The owner is the nicest guy in the world, don’t let that fool you. Absolutely awful.
They tried to put a lien on my house because I would not pay their trumped up charges. The owner comes in and underbids everyone after you hire him he starts charging for everything that should be included in the work to make up the price.
Examples:
1.One of the jobs they were hired for was a kitchen remodel. They were told that we are putting in a new double oven. They upgraded the electrical to accommodate the oven. I had also contracted with them to replace a window in the back unit. I later had to cancel the window install. After I cancelled the owner told me he would be charging me extra to put in the oven, WHAT!!! How are you charging me EXTRA to install the oven in a kitchen remodel? Ovens go with kitchens, it was part of the original bid. Did you think the oven was going into the bathroom? Absurd!
2. Range hood. I had 2 range hoods installed. One was in the main house the other in the back unit. Both leaked after it started raining. I had to call a roofing company to redo the vents on the roof.
3. They were also to re-​finish the hardwood floors. One of the main reasons to do the floors was there were black spots due to animals or water damage, I’m not sure, but I specifically pointed out the spots and told the owner that this is why I need the floors re-​done. After I cancelled the window install mentioned above, the owner tried to make up the lost revenue. He charged me extra for swapping out the damaged wood planks. WHAT??? Didn’t we discuss the reason for the floor job? Did you not say fine and quote me a price? At no time did this guy say, «This will be a separate charge or this will be extra».
