Bini Birth offers a wide variety of classes, workshops, trainings, support groups, and services to parents and birth professionals alike.

Some of our offerings include childbirth education classes for expecting parents, DONA-​approved doula trainings, new mom & mommy-​to-​be support groups, prenatal and mom & me yoga, professional doula referral services, and much more.

History

Established in 2008.

BINI Birth was founded by Ana Paula Markel, a doula and childbirth educator, with the goal to educate and inform expecting families and new parents about the many options and choices for childbirth and parenting. BINI began in Ana Paula’s living room where she taught childbirth classes for 7 years. In 2008 BINI moved to its first commercial space in North Hollywood. At the same time Ana became a doula trainer for DONA International and we also started our doula registry where we connect couples and families with birth and postpartum doulas (newborn care specialists). We outgrew that space and in 2012 BINI moved to its beautiful location in Sherman Oaks. We offer a variety of childbirth classes, baby care, mommy and me, yoga, CPR, Breastfeeding class/​support, RIE, OTB, music classes, our green boutique and much more. Ana Paula works with midwives, doctors and hospitals as a volunteer to make childbirth as peaceful as possible for mothers and babies.

Ana Paula became a childbirth educator and birth doula in 2002 and is now a certified doula with DONA (the largest and most reputable international doula organization, with certified doulas in 23 countries), a DONA approved birth doula trainer, and a certified childbirth educator and childbirth educator trainer through ICEA (International Childbirth Education Association).

Currently in addition to her work at BINI Birth, Ana Paula is also working as an independent contractor at Cedars-​Sinai Medical Center developing and expanding their childbirth education program.

Ana Paula serves on the board of directors for DONA International as well as the advisory board for PAM (Pregnancy Awareness Month) and has supported both The Ina May Gaskin Documentary and The Business of Being Born.

Binibirth rocks! My husband and I took both the childcare class and the one day birth class with Rachel. We loved her so much that we hired her as our doula. I was skeptical at first about hiring a doula since I was open to pain medication but I am so glad I did! She was a god send!!! And the information I learned from the classes was super useful as well! After the birth of our child, back we came to see Roza the lactation consultant. She fit us in the same day as I was in a panic about my daughter not getting the nutrition she needed. Roza is very thorough and direct, exactly what a tired mom needs in working through lactation issues. So many classes/​services to choose from and such wonderful instructors — Binibirth is a must when expecting!!!

Love this place! The community, resources, and space are perfect. My partner and I learned so much during the Childbirth Class this past weekend. Left the weekend feeling excited and relaxed about childbirth. Ana Paula, the owner and class instructor is bright, warm, and truly inspiring. RIE class with Jill Getto Lee– Truly amazing work. I cannot speak highly enough about the value of this approach to seeing children. I mean it when I say I believe it «saved» my baby on so many levels, and it is giving him the best start in life any parent could wish for. It has made me see my baby with new eyes, and has completely changed my experience as a mother– I never get «tired» of a diaper change, or feeding, or the daily activities we do to care for our babies. Now I observe and relate to my son with awe and respect for the brilliance they are born with. (If we just allow). Ive learned so much from RIE, and am so grateful. Our teacher Jill Getto Lee is such a compassionate, knowledgable, gifted teacher, we are blessed to have found you all. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Took our Birthing class there, it was top notch! Great instructors, atmosphere and they even feed you. Most importantly, they laid out the material in a fun and super interesting way, not overwhelming you or freaking you out. I also got my Doula from there. Haven’t given birth yet but know she is going to be amazing. Definately, a great resource for Moms and Dad’s a like!

My husband and I took a 1-​day childbirth workshop with doulas Janet & Julia, and it was a fantastic experience. First off, Bini Birth’s space is beautiful, comfortable, and peaceful. I was able to spend most of the class time (when not practicing breathing or a movement) in a very relaxed position on one of the many couches with my swollen feet up. The snacks provided were yummy, nutritious, and plentiful. But most importantly, the teachers were welcoming, engaging, and incredibly knowledgable. I went into the workshop having watched birth videos, having read pregnancy & child prep books, and having heard many different birth stories from friends and family, and still I learned much throughout the entire day – and the day flew by. Though I had anticipated a long, tiring day at the workshop, I left feeling really excited about my upcoming birth (in the next month!).

This review is long overdue, but my husband and I took a childbirth weekend intensive class here in the fall and can’t say enough about what a positive experience we had at Bini Birth and with Ana Paula. My husband was especially grateful to have more insight into the process and said really felt he got a lot out of the class. The bini birth building is pretty incredible as well.

I have taken childcare class, a weekend intensive childbirth class and prenatal yoga at Bini. It is a very welcoming environment and a beautiful building. Ana Paula is a terrific teacher who uses her years of experience and humor to calm down nervous new parents-​to-​be. Though some of the classes and the store focus on earthy, natural, green products and methods, the teachers are very open-​minded, especially in childbirth class, and do not try to sway anyone from using epidurals or other interventions. The store is super cute and there is a little kitchen for class participants where there are terrific snacks set out, from cheese to fruit to hard-​boiled eggs and cakes. I would recommend Bini to anyone!

My husband and I took the 6 week Childbirth Education Class and loved every moment of it. Neither one of us has family out here in Los Angeles so we were encouraged to take a longer class to make friends with other parents and we did just that. The other couples were so great. We learned a lot which has eased so many of my concerns and fell in love with the Bini Birth educators. Bini Birth is a great resource for parents.

Stars and words cannot adequately describe this experience. I was struggling with breastfeeding after 2 weeks post partum and made an appointment with Roza the lactation consultant. She sat with me, my husband and little one while gently instructing and reinforcing what we were already doing well in breastfeeding. Even before the appointment she talked me back into a calm and rational state when I was freaking out about my little one getting enough to eat. Without this experience I may have made a choice that was not medically necessary nor what I wanted, ie giving up and feeding the little one formula. Now almost 5 months in I know I wouldn’t be where I am with breastfeeding. I do not know much else about this place but the lactation consultant was brilliant.

Such an amazing experience! Ana Paula is so wonderful and I felt so lucky to have the opportunity to learn from her. She is so loving and intelligent, experienced, warm… Everything you would hope for from a class. The only sad thing, was when the class was over. We took the one-​day intensive birth class and it was so incredibly helpful. I came away less nervous about labor and delivery than I had been going in. It was definitely worthwhile and did not feel like wasted time. I felt like the instructor was balanced in her views on different techniques and philosophies, and did a good job presenting multiple angles on the various options out there.

We cannot say enough good things about Bini Birth. Everyone there is just awesome. We’ve used them as a comprehensive resource and found so much good stuff from there. And it’s been especially valuable since we are first-​time parents to be and also new to the LA area — so they’ve been sacred in helping us get through pregnancy and prep for labor and delivery and baby — all in a comforting and loving environment.
I first interacted with Rachel, who is thoughtful and remembers everything and is just a great warm first impression — welcoming you in and just prompt and totally attentive. I took her nesting class — was awesome. A great first class to teach me some greener and healthier basics.
Then I found Becca through Bini Birth, masseuse, through Bini — check her out at Booda Belly Massage — I have a review there for her and it’s AMAZING. She has saved my changing pregnancy body.
And then (if Bini Birth couldn’t have helped me enough already) I watched matched with a doula that I am so excited to work with. The process of matching a doula comes directly from Rachel and Ana Paula. They work intimately with you to find out a fit the suggest. Which is so awesome. They also guide you through the process so you have an idea of what to ask, expect etc. We feel so much better with Joni Lucarelli by our side — a great match.
And then the Birthing Class with Ana Paula. Definitely we were apprehensive and fearful — thinking maybe we didn’t need this class (not out of knowledge and confidence but rather out of fear and avoidance). Oh but we did. Ana Paula is a rockstar of knowledge. Her personality is so great too — so the delivery of all this information (which can be overload) is cheerful, real, unbiased and most importantly valuable. We met some great expecting couples — so the community was welcoming too. Could not recommend this class more — you will feel so much better after!
Bini is great all around — the boutique is super cute too — have bought the push dress and diapers from there and always browse for great books and products.
Looking forward to bringing bebe back to Bini for support groups and friendship.

I’m a guy, and I wanted to give a review because there might be other «dudes» out there wondering what this place might be like and I know most reviews will probably be from women, so here’s a response for the dads out there (and moms too).
I can’t say enough how wonderful Ana Paula is here at Bini Birth. We took her birthing class and learned so much, and afterward had questions for our doctor that had been weighing over us, and long story short, our doctor ended up being very non-​receptive to our questions and concerns. Basically we found out it was going to be «his way or the highway» on the day of our child’s birth. We started researching more and ended up switching doctors and hospitals, and now have a team that is incredible and on par with how we would like our «labor day» to go.
We would not have had the courage (or knowledge) to ask the tough questions had we not taken this class, and Ana Paula also met with us on her own time outside of class to answer questions we had and help us make the right decision. She is not only a great educational instructor, but a great PERSON. Can’t recommend this place enough. Great insight into the «natural» way of doing things, but also has respect for medical intervention if/​when it’s necessary, and finding a happy medium between the two. We’ll definitely be coming back once the baby is born for their other classes.

I can’t begin to tell you how AMAZING the Birth Doula Training was at BINI Birth. Not only was the building beautiful, and very serene, but the staff was welcoming and engaging. Ana Paula Markel… WOW… I knew from hearing her speak in other venues that she was passionate but having the opportunity to sit and hear her share her heart and her passion for the servant role of Birth Doula was an absolute honor. If you have a passion for serving women during the most empowering time of their lives, then a Birth Doula might be the route for you and the ONLY place that I would recommend, highly, is the training taught by Ana Paula at BINI Birth.

You can tell she is passionate about the subject manner and loves teaching new doulas. Also, the location of the training is beautiful. The building is gorgeous. with my husband we attended the 6 weeks birth workshop class with Shelly and Stephanie and it was one of our favorite moment of the pregnancy. Thanks to that class, we felt very prepared and relaxed, and looked forward to the birth day.
