Salon Zelo

Fantastic salon, friendly stylists, and located in our charming town of Sierra Madre. Joni is my stylist and does a fantastic job at listening to her clients and incorportating their wishes into new styles that compliment each individual. I have issues with my grays growing in, my haircolor being kind of crazy due to all treatments I’ve had, but my goal is to let my hair go naturally gray. For those of you who face this battle, it’s a tough one. Joni took her time with me, explained what would be the best option to allow my grays to come back naturally, and gave me a wonderful cut at the same time. She is friendly, professional, and is an expert with color. Give Joni a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Been coming here since they opened. Cindy does my hair, and people are always amazed that my color is not my own. She is always punctual, and time spent at the Salon feels like a visit with friends. Annie at the front desk is always warm and professional. I moved away from Sierra Madre a few years ago, but still come back every 6 weeks for cut and color.

Nice place, easy parking. I been coming here for several month because of Laura who’s been keeping my coif in shape, lol, since circa 1995. The vibe in the salon is good.

I see Ruth Bales at Salon Zelo. Can I just say she is amazing. Ruth can do whatever you want. She makes my hair a little lighter in the summer because of the sun fading the darker hair and then in the winter I can go back to my darker tones. She adds highlights, low lights, anything you need. The cut is always just what I want. She is always on time and prepared to get you in and out. Please see Ruth, you won’t be sorry!!! She also cuts/​stlyes hair for men.

Very clean salon with friendly staff. Ruth has been doing my hair since she started doing hair and I would recommend her to anyone. She does an amazing good at everything she does, highlights, roots, cuts, anything you need. She’s always in a good mood and I love chatting with her while she does my hair. A+ for Salon Zelo and A+++ for Ruth!

I have virgin hair and had decided to have it colored. I was so afraid of the damage it would cause so Ruth suggested some highlights that I absolutely love! The best part was being able to leave with my hair feeling way better and healthy then when I went IN EVEN AFTER THE HIGHLIGHTS. I love Ruth for listening and knowing exactly what I wanted.

Larry, the owner of the salon, has been doing my hair, as well as my family’s hair, for over 15 years. We have follwed him from previous salons to his current location. The staff is extremely friendly and everyone knows each other there. All of the stylists are professional and skillful cosmetologists. It has to be the best salon in the area. The salon is clean, upscale, and Larry has set a very nice motif which makes the atmosphere relaxing and comfortable. Any negative reviews in which I have read, are in my opinion, incorrect and misleading. I am always complimented on my haircuts and I know none of the stylists would allow their clients to walk out with a bad haircut or style. Everyone is excellent there! I definitely recommend this salon to anyone and everyone.

Larry at Salon Zelo is great! His ideas are solid, yet edgy, or elegant. He can do anything! His eye for color is out of this world! I’m so glad I googled him and found him. I am very happy with his salon, the service, and of course, my pretty hair. Highly recommend.

Larry does a fantastic job. The salon is run very efficiently and is always a bright, friendly place to visit.

Alex does an amazing job every time and she is a wizard when it comes to color. I get compliments all the time about my hair color and cut… even when I’m due for my next appointment. On top of a great cut and color, she is super FAST! I’ve been to many stylists over the years, and none of them are as quick as Alex. Don’t be put off by her limited schedule… she is beyond worth waiting for.

Salon Zelo owner Larry Romero has been cutting my hair for 25 years, from back in the Sabino days to his current Salon Zelo, plus my wife’s for last 10 years. He is a great stylist. I’ve referred several friends there that liked it as well. Great experience going there!

I came to Salon Zelo and had a great experience! SUSY did my hair and she was awesome! I highly recommend her! She was very hospitable and professional. She knew just what she was doing so I felt very comfortable! I did the KERATIN treatment and it made my hair so soft and easy to manage! I also got a haircut and I love it! So definitely check out Susy when you visit!

PETER ANTHONY. love him and trust him with any and all things hair-​related. I’ve been going to him for 12 years and when he moved to Salon Zelo, I followed.
I always get compliments on my hair — even after working out vigorously (and people, I’m the SWEATIEST girl in class!). I never style my hair — I don’t even blowdry or put product in it. I give most of the credit to Peter (some of it to my dad because he has good hair genes). I’ve never had a bad experience with Peter. His cuts are consistently satisfactory and my hair always grows out perfectly.
My only tip: Peter is an absolute genius when it comes to figuring out the best style/​cut for your face shape. Maybe show up with an idea of what you want, but leave it to him to give you your own, customized version.
As for the staff — the receptionist is always friendly and welcoming (both on the phone and in person). Peter’s new assistant, Kendra, is THE BEST!

I am really impressed with Salon Zelo. I went in on a busy Saturday and my stylist, Brittany who I could tell was having a busy day, took the time to talk with me and figure out what to do with my hair (it was in bad shape). I mean, it was a really detailed conversation too, I’d never knew my hair could inspire so many questions. It made me feel like she really wanted the best for me and my hair ;) I feel like the prices are really reasonable too.

I hate trying new hair salons, but after having two haircuts that I was not happy with from another place, I decided to try something new. The inside of Salon Zelo is very nice — it feels very upscale. The surrounding area of Sierra Madre is awesome — there are plenty of local places to walk to for a cup of coffee or a pint of your favorite beer!
Brittany did my hair and she did an amazing job! I was scared about cutting a few inches off of my long hair, but she made the process easy. I love my new hair! Though it is a 20 minute drive for me, I will definitely go back to see her whenever I need to get my hair cut again. THANK YOU, BRITTANY! :)

THE SALON: The salon is always clean. I think there are about 10 stations. The vibe is friendly. There’s always beverages and snacks available. I’m always offered something. Tons of magazines to read if you’re waiting. They also have an array of high end beauty products for sale.
HILDA IS THE BEST: I’ve been going to Salon Zelo for a very long time now, ever since my hairdresser Hilda started working there. I don’t know why I didn’t write a review sooner? Hilda has been doing my hair for the past 10+ years. If you’re looking for a hairdresser in the San Gabriel Valley, she is AWESOME! She’s upbeat, attentive, and shows you how to style your hair at home, do different looks.
Only once did my hair get too light for my taste, and Hilda adjusted at no cost to me. Most recently she did a nice overall brown/​copper wash since I hadn’t had my hair highlighted in awhile. She does a great job copying whatever hair style you want.
PARKING: Ample public parking in the back. If you’re heading north on Baldwin, turn left at the post office. There is also street parking in the front of the salon.
Highly recommend Salon Zelo to anyone looking for a salon!

Elizabeth, the esthetician here, is a miracle worker!
Occasionally, I’ll go in for a $ 90 one hour deep massage. Last time I came out I felt high. She’s AMAZING!
Definitely recommend! They also offer reasonably priced facials :)
