Wing Chun is highly effective self defense on the street where there are no rules. Ip Man Wing Chun Kung Fu is a combat martial art. We do not try to score points, tap our opponent’s out or impress an audience. Our aim is to end a conflict that has become violent as quickly as possible. We offer group and private classes for men, women and kids AGES 6 & UP.

History

Established in 2010.

Master Sifu Bryan Talbot has been teaching WIng Chun for twenty five years. His first school was in Prescott, Az. A year after the untimely death of his Sifu, Master Ron Heimberger, he became a disciple of Grandmaster Samuel Kwok. Shortly after, he opened West Coast Wing Chun, the first club in California to join the Samuel Kwok Wing Chun Martial Art Association.

I was interested in learning martial arts to help with my coordination and balance… or rather lack thereof. After some research I decided on Wing Chun based on an article on Nerd Fitness. I have been studying Wing Chun here for about 9 months as of writing this review.
The boot camp classes are divided into 5 sections.
1) Siu Lim Tao
2) Work out /​physical conditioning. This is tough, bring a water bottle
3) Qi gong
4) Lecture
5) Drills /​Technique
The information in the course is solid. The drills are well planned and the instruction is top Notch. In the boot camp class, there are typically 4 certified instructors, though not always, and you will often see Siu Lo Si Serj coming around to assist people with the different motion while Siu Lo Si Mike or Sifu demonstrate at the front of the class.
Everyone is really nice and the attitudes are fantastic. The instructors have a lot of patience and are really good at explaining the techniques and forms.
The typical boot camp class last 2.5 to 3.5 hours. The quizzes are straight forward if you study. Kung Fu means hardwork and if you put in the effort, you can get a lot out of this school. I definitely recommend coming to open training hours and asking questions to the instructors and the older students.
After passing boot camp, students can advance into the Siu Lim Tao curriculum which expands on the application of the first form more. Students are tested on proficiency before they are allowed to progress. The progression system is really well thought out and tiered in a manner that makes sense.
I cannot recommend this school highly enough.

I found this place 3 years ago by chance. And I have been part of the family ever since. I say family because that is how it is. You are not just a member of a gym, you become part of a family. The instructors are the best and will help you achieve high skill levels at your own pace.

My husband wanted to learn Wing Chin for a while now. We came across this place just by looking at convenient locations and website integrity. I have to say that this place already feels like home and its only been my 7th class of boot camp. They are especially patient with me since I feel combat incompetence while my husband on the other hand is more kinesthetically inclined. They fit the program to find the strength and weakness of your ability and biological format to effectively protect yourself. OK Sifu is strong and he can electrocute people with a punch, don’t believe me, find out for yourself (OK, I’m exaggerating). Sifu has a yin and yang balance of strong yet patient and sweet.
Simo, she’s awesome, great teacher and can totally teach anyone.

I have tried out a number of different martial arts over the past decade, and trained in a variety of dojos/​dojangs/​wuguans/​kwoons across the world, but Ip Man Wing Chun has proven the best fit for me, and there is no better place to train this art than West Coast Wing Chun.
Sifu Bryan Talbot is an exceptional teacher, offering the perfect balance between theory and practice. He is always willing to answer questions you may have, making sure you both understand and can apply techniques before moving on.
And with a great teacher, comes great students: West Coast Wing Chun is a tight knit community of friendly, humble, dedicated martial artists, not the egotistical meatheads one so often encounters in martial arts circles.
Best of all, Sigung Samuel Kwok (who trained directly under both Ip Man’s sons, Ip Chun and Ip Ching) visits from the UK a few times a year to conduct exceptional seminars.
