History

Established in 1984.

Herman Farrer Photography was established in 1984. After a stint as the photographer for the City Paper, I began my freelance career, which continues until this day. Over the years, I’ve photographed a diverse cross section of Washington. From street life to K Street and from the personal to personalities, I’ve photographed it all.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Herman Farrer is a Washington, DC-​area based photographer specializing in portrait, event, and corporate photography.

Herman received his formal photography training at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC and at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, New York. He also holds a BA from Grinnell College in Iowa.

Herman began his career in 1984 as the chief photographer for the Washington City Paper, where he provided photographs to illustrate the paper’s feature stories. He also contributed his own feature, which posed a topical question to four people on the street along with their portrait.

After his tenure with the City Paper, Herman transitioned into his career as a freelance photographer. His work includes photographing varied events such as meetings, press conferences, family portraits and event, and awards ceremonies. Herman also makes environmental portraits and head shots, as well as photographs for brochures, marketing campaigns, and Web use.
