We ordered a bacon cheese burger, and a buffalo burger. After the server threw our plates down and ran off, my bacon /cheese was on his buffalo burger. Fries and onion rings were ICE cold. We flagged the server down and she got us new sides that we got after we were done with our burgers. She never checked back, no refills. Just awful service, and food. We don’t mind paying a bit higher price when it is worth it, not worth it here. The piano player was amazing though!

Bleu Cheese Hamburger and a glass of 90 Shillings was perfect after a long ride. The pianist lends to the old west ambiance.

Awesome pianist! Awesome atmosphere! Awesome food! This is a must see! Silver tom is full of eaterys and after walking around for bit, we were drawn back to this place each time. Our first time in Silverton. Come visit Grumpys!!! The Cajun chicken sandwich is to die for!!! The club sandwich is a lot of sandwich and sooooo tasty. Sweet potato fries and the potato salad is a MUST!!!

Loud place with an old time saloon vibe. Huge antique bar alone worth the visit. And the best piano player I’ve heard in a long time. Terrific time with staff. Only had the onion rings, but they were alone worth the visit. Fun place.

We took the train and they were busy, so we sat at the bar. 10 minutes later we had our order! Loved the piano and the friendly staff. Both of us were happy with our sandwich and burger. Home made.

New Owners and conscious effort to not repeat the past sins. Positive: piano player, quickly seated, reasonably served(total time less than 1-hr). Clean facilities, tables, and courteous employees. We were the 3rd train in town, and expected tired staff — but not so — we were not treated as a bunch of tourists — staff was attentive all the way thru the end. We had non-greasy onion rings and sweet potato fries — good. French onion soup very good. Hamburger was fine, and buffalo burger was great. While the prime rib sandwich tasted great, it is really an open faced sandwich — you cannot eat it with the sandwich toast provided, because of the need to trim the marbling in a prime rib cut — -as expected, need to use one’s knife to trim. Got great value for the food received, especially after eating in a much higher priced Durango restaurant yesterday. We have riden the DSNG train since the 90’s and always went to Handlebars and Funnel Cakes — -watch out with this new Grumpy’s Owner, as the past year comments are not valid anymore. We will return to Grumpy’s next time, and Funnel cakes for sweets. We did not order deserts, so no comment.

This is a pretty good restaurant and we enjoyed the Wild West ambience and the constant piano playing. The food was good — we had lunch with a cup of chili and a chicken taco salad — not Michelin star — but good. Well worth eating at if in Silverton.

Great restaurant. Visited in the month of May. Recommend the club sandwich. Very fresh sandwich, large. Friendly fast service. Would recommend and return.

hard to find a place to eat in town. decided to go to grumpies and oh the irony. our waitress. awful service even by the hostess. asked to sit in the back bc the music was loud and she sighed and made a face. the waitress was awful. didn’t give us straws for our drinks just threw our food on the side of the table. not even in front of us. didn’t ask if we needed anything and when I asked if I can have a side of ranch she looked at me like I had ten heads. she was only nice when she handed the check. figures. I tipped the bus boy not her. sorry I’m not sorry. tourists are there #1 customers. and the food, it wasn’t anything special.

This place will give you an old-time feeling. The building looks very old, and the interior matches, along with it’s vintage wall paper and ceiling. We stopped here for a couple beers while we waited out a storm. I am from Fort Worth, TX, which has it’s own ol’ western historic district. I can say that none of those places gave me the feeling this place did when the piano player got started. It took back into a time I wasn’t around for. And he did a good job of distracting everyone from the storm(and other plans) outside.

Had lunch on a holiday weekend with lots of bikers in town. This place is fun and so interesting to look at. I love music so the piano player was enormously enjoyed. Food wasn’t focus for me. It was edible and filled the tummy — about what I expect for lunchtime fare in a teeny town.

It’s hard to find a place to eat in a town that is bursting at the seams with visitors, and there is rain forcing everybody inside. Grumpy’s looks nice and historic, but it turns out, it’s the touristy kind of historic. In short, the atmosphere is nice. The ragtime piano is a nice touch. But the food is mediocre. I ordered my burger medium rare like I usually do, but it came out well done. As others have postulated, it seems likely that they don’t cook to order. I believe I had potato salad with my burger; it was so unmemorable that I’m not even entirely sure it was actually potato salad I had. Service was OK for how busy they were. There are much better places to eat in Silverton. Skip this tourist trap.

The owner of a silver jewelry store in town recommended this place to us after we got off the train from Durango. He said that the locals eat here. We were drawn in by the talented piano playing we heard from the street. Once we were seated, the service was very quick. Our food came out fast and was delicious with generous portion sizes. The French onion soup is definitely worthy of its world famous title. This is a great place to have lunch if you’re visiting silverton!

This place is a cool building and it has a live piano player who plays period music, which is cool. However, that’s all I can really say about it. My veggie burger and onion rings were a smidgen above cold when I got them. The food for our party came out at pretty vastly different times. The waitstaff seemed annoyed to be waiting on us, even though we were very friendly, patient and polite. «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» is the best way to describe it; thanks Unilocal

We came in to Grumpy’s on a Friday night in Silverton before heading off to backpack on Saturday. We were enticed by the $ 15 T-Bone Steak special(regularly $ 25) they had on the chalkboard at the front and that was our deciding factor for eating at Grumpy’s as we were looking to splurge on our first day of vacation. I sure am glad we chose to do so! We ordered a couple beers, two T-Bone Steak dinners for me and my bro, and my bro’s girlfriend ordered the buffalo burger. My bro ordered his steak rare and I medium rare. They both came out perfectly cooked and delicious! My steak melted in my mouth. I could not help but knaw the remains off of the bone once most of the meat had been cut off. The buffalo burger was also delicious and cooked to order. The steak dinner also came with some side choices. We got a baked potato and salad. It also came with a side of corn. I’m not a fan of corn so I didn’t eat that. But with the potato and steak and salad, we were STUFFED afterwards and left Grumpy’s super happy. Grumpy’s made a good first impression on us and we loved the small town of Silverton and its charm. Looking forward to future trips here! Peace and love to Grumpy’s

You go to Grumpy’s to eat in an old style saloon. Don’t go out of your way for the food. I had the chili, which was palatable, but not good. The quality of food is very sub-standard. It won’t kill you, but it won’t do you any good either. Service wasn’t great on my visit either. Silverton has a lot to offer in the way of restaurants. Walk through Grumpy’s on your way to the hotel if you really want to see the saloon and hear the old-timey piano.

A two star review for a tourist trap is like a 4 star review! You simply have to lower your standards when you’re trapped. The food was pretty good for a tourist trap. Like I said about 4 stars if you apply the handicap. But compared to the rest of the world I can only give 2 stars. My food was all processed and handled in bulk. The bread was standard mass produced white bread covered in butter, the meat of my french dip reminded me of some odd processed meat like substance and everything else tasted like it came from a can. The fries were pretty good but its hard to screw up fries. Service was average and there was more than enough staff for a slow Wednesday fresh off the 1st train.

I think this place pre-cooks their burgers thinking their customers just want to get out quickly. This was probably one of the driest burgers I’ve ever had. Even their mountain oysters were dry, hard, and chewy. One of the diners in my group had their chili. Apparently this place was proud of it. But my taste of it evoked memories of opening a can. The service was wonderful though. Happy, cheerful, and accommodating waitstaff. I wish the cooking matched the personality

Potentially the most overcooked chicken I’ve ever had, combined with a staff who could hardly understand my friend’s allergy made this a fairly miserable experience. I have to admit eventually the food did work out including for my friend, but we waited extremely long for the food and not much was good. The burger was the best thing any of us had and it did have surprisingly good meat. I wouldn’t come back, even in the winter when this is one of the few places open.

Was in town for a couple of hours, during our Durango to Silverton train ride. We walked through the city and wanted to try this place. They had a young lady playing a piano near the front door. Place was decorated like a old western style saloon. Very nice bar, animal trophy’s lined up the walls. Food was very good, daughter of course had her cheeseburger, I had the chili fries which was one of the best! Mother enjoyed her BLT sandwich. Wished I could remember what my wife had? We would like to try other places if we are ever their again. But wouldn’t loose any sleep if we ate here again!
