Ana is so wonderful and talented. She patiently conducts a consultation to figure out exactly what you want done to your hair, and provides expert feedback based on your particular face shape and current hair condition. I had a great experience with her as she cleaned up the parts of my hair that are buzzed. The only con I would have to write about is that I do not know why I was charged as much as I was for a quick a clean-​up (no cut), but I’m happy with her consultation, personality, and customer service, and with my cleaned-​up buzz, so 5 stars it is :).

Ana is the BEST.
I recently spent $ 50 on a haircut I was very unhappy with and was in a state of skepticism in potentially finding a random hair salon in the Simi Valley/​Moorpark/​Thousand Oaks area that would be 1) affordable, ’cause I ain’t made of $$$, and 2) able to bring my hair vision to life.
I initially scheduled a consultation with any available hair stylist at Desired Effects that day, just to test the waters, and luckily I met with Ana. She was absolutely patient and thorough, expressed her professional opinions and recommendations when needed, and after 20 minutes of talking to her, I decided to take the leap (and cut).
She did a great job on my undercut, telling/​showing me exactly what she intended to do through each step of the process, went over and beyond with massaging my neck and scalp while shampooing my hair, and even styled my new ‘do without any additional charge. The consultation, cut, and styling costed $ 35. Unheard of.
I already recommended Ana to my twin sister (coincidentally also named Anna), and will be sending everyone I know over to her. From what I could see, everyone at Desired Effects is friendly, professional, attentive, and supportive. Love the atmosphere, love the people, and I love my newfound confidence!

Had such a nice experience getting my hair cut! I am super picky since I have curly hair and need someone who understands how to style and cut curly hair. Nikki is that person! She really took her time to listen to what I wanted, my usual hair routine and helped me with how to style my hair. Absolutely love her and would recommend her for other curly girls in need of a great hair cut! Thank you Nikki!

Ms. Kira did my hair and all I can fathom is the word perfection. I haven’t had my hair touched or styled in almost 2 years. With her confidence, experience, and customer service it made the time fly by and my haircut twice as enjoyable! I have very long thick hair, and I always have the trouble of keeping the length when I go in for a haircut. Kira, did not even TOUCH my length, but instead she added layers, and I can’t stop smiling. I will forever be coming to this salon and her for my hair! Not to mention the staff was nothing but friendly and the coffee and tea that was offered just was the cherry on top!

Went to Desired Effects & saw John today. Oh my god! What an artist he is !! I have long hair & he really took the time to find out what I liked about my hair & what I didn’t like. He taught me what products were right for my hair & how to style it. I left feeling really great about myself.

After 3 years, I decided it was time for a cut. I called Desired Effects due to the good reviews they had here on Unilocal.I was scheduled in with Tiffany and I am beyond happy with the way my hair turned out. She listened to me and gave her opinion with great advice. I will be returning in a few days for a color.
I would highly recommend Tiffany to anyone I know =)

Ok, usually I’d have nothing but good things to say about Desired Effects… I’ve been here 3 different time with 3 different people, Tiffany, Jamie, and now John. And I loved Tiffany! She did amazing things with my hair. Loved it! Jamie was really good too! She cut my hair PERFRCTLY. And I just got my hair done today by John…
I felt like he was rushing, he was yanking on my hair and tearing out any knots that I had in the hair, which hurt. He left me alone while he was washing my hair so he could do some other things. I didn’t like that, nor has that happened before.
To top it off he didn’t really dress or act like he wanted to be there. I mean He cut my hair well but he cursed allot and it made me feel uncomfortable.
I’m giving Desired Effects a 3 because they’ve been amazing before, up until this point. Personally I don’t think I’m going back to John. He was pricey. I paid $ 49 just for my layers no style… Usually it’s $ 35 for just a cut… I feel ripped off.
All and all I’d defiantly recommend Jamie or Tiffany, both really great stylists!

Tiffany is my go-​to gal for amazing haircuts and color. She really takes her time understanding my needs and I have walked out of the salon on cloud 9 every single time! She has a great eye for style, has a ton of photos to help generate ideas and is all out amazing!

I just moved to Simi after 8 years of living in Manhattan. It took me 6 years to find a guy who could really give me a cut I loved there. When I moved, I scoured Unilocal to find a place with good reviews, and I paid close attention to the stylist the reviewers recommended. I finally came across Ana at Desired Effects. She had so many good reviews that I decided to give her a try.
I have very thick, long, wavy (not nice, consistent waves, but crazy do-​what-​they-​want haphazard waves) hair and it’s really difficult to cut. I loved the cut I came in with: noticeable layers in the front to frame my face and very subtle layers throughout to even out the effect. It’s a technical cut, and, like I said, it took me 6 years in NY to find someone who could do it the way I wanted it. I came in because the bottom few inches were looking really sad — damaged, dry, not doing me any favors! I told Ana that I love my cut but wanted it freshened up, cut down to the healthy hair. Here’s where she first won me over…
Ana spent quite a while looking at my hair. She played with it, pulling out strands and examining the cut, noticing what the shortest pieces were, how much it was layered in the back vs. the front. She studied it. She really paid attention to exactly what I wanted.
And I dare say the cut she gave me was BETTER than what I had gotten in NY. Ana obviously really cares about what she does. She takes her time and makes sure that you’re totally comfortable with the cuts she’s making. She even asked me if she could text me in a week just to make sure that everything’s ok. Honestly, I’ve never felt like a stylist cared at all what I think when they’ve finished!
I also sprang for a conditioning treatment because my hair was so damaged when I came in. It was an extra $ 15, but Ana gave me the most amazing head and neck massage when she rinsed it out! I’d pay $ 20 just for the massage she did around my temples — I’m doing this forever whether my hair needs it or not!
The whole place had a good vibe too. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the receptionist who offered me water or coffee and made me feel welcome. From the outside, the place doesn’t look like a high-​end salon (it’s in a shopping center), but once you’re inside, you realize you found a gem.
Now, because the place was relatively inexpensive, I was apprehensive. I’ve been paying $ 80 in NY for a haircut because that was the cheapest I could find that did even a halfway decent job. Ana charged me $ 35 for the haircut (I almost fainted), and it was phenomenal. I could not recommend more highly that you book an appointment with Ana.
While I love the idea of paying $ 35 for a perfect cut, Ana, if you’re reading this, you’re undercharging!

Love this place! Everyone here is super friendly. Today I went in to just do a trim but decided to do a total change and add blonde to my hair… Well let me tell you I LOVE IT!!! My girl Ana did an amazing job! I have never received so many compliments on less the 24 hours. Everyone says I look more my age and it really highlights my skin tone and eye color. I am so happy and the way she cut my hair goes perfectly with the highlights. You can really see the layers and even my friend said she just wants to play with my hair all day because of how it looks. I am very picky when it comes to my hair. I have had some pretty horrible experiences, but Ana did absolutely amazing!!!

CURLY HAIR CUT ALERT! Nikki knows curly hair!!!
There have been two hair stylists who have cut my hair and have given it a style. Not just a cut, a trim, or a shape, but an actual style. Jason Newell from Laguna Beach — now in Louisville Kentucky, and Dezra in Pleasant Grove, Utah. I write this because I go into hair salons with much trepidation — as curly haired girls can relate to i’m certain. Today I made an appointment at Desired Effects in Simi Valley due to the great write-​ups on Unilocal! I went in wanting a trim to clean up my curly-​Q hair that I had been snipping away at on my own. I didn’t have an expectation for anything more then the usual trim and product sales push because I haven’t seen more then that outside of the two stylists I mentioned.
I got LUCKY! Nikki was the stylist who gave me a lovely hair cut. She cut precisely, educated me about curly hair, showed me ways to style my hair that didn’t require too much extra time and she didn’t try to up-​sell on products!
She spoke of methods and hair colors/​shades that I was familiar with because of the 20+ years of hair education I heard from Jason as he cut, colored and produced the most gorgeous and stylish hair cuts I ever had. That was very reassuring to me and magnified to me that she knows her stuff.
AAnyway, I gave the salon a try due to the positive reviews people wrote about Desired Effects Salon. The only difference was the price. When I called, I was quoted $ 35. for a hair cut. I was charged $ 55. I didn’t say anything because Nikki spent a lot of time on my hair and went the extra mile.
I took picture of my hair cut so curly haired girls can see the soft ringlets and bounce she brought back to my hair, but can’t figure out how to do that just now. I’ll try after I post it to if an option to do so presents its self.

Let me Start about by Saying I’ve always Had Bad Experiences With hairstylist, So Trusting One Is almost Impossible. I Took a Chance and Went In. The Hairstylist Name Is Ana. She Actually Took the Time to not Only Ask what I Was Looking For but also Suggested Styles That Would Compliment my Face Shape. I Walked Out Loving My Hair! I’ve Never Been So Excited about Going Back To a Hair Salon .

I recently went to Ana and she did an amazing job! She cut my sister’s hair and then mine and we both love our new hair. I had really long hair and I had her cut it short and highlight it. She picked the perfect color for my highlights. I was so nervous to cut it but she did a great job. My cousin saw my hair and made an appointment right then. Ana takes so much pride in her work and took the time to make sure everything was perfect. She even stayed really late to take her time and finish my hair. She did not rush anything and it really shows. She is so sweet, professional and knowledgable. I definitely recommend coming here! Thank you Ana for everything!

I am so happy! Ana did an amazing job! I have never been to a salon! Never bleached or highlighted my hair! I walked in with very long virgin hair, got it bleached to platinum & dyed lavender & it still feels fabulous! Not damaged & looks amazing!!!

Great place to get a hair cut! I haven’t gotten my hair cut for a good couple of years and I was really scared that they would convince me to cut more then I wanted to get cut but luckily my hair dresser (ana) wasn’t going to do anything I wasn’t comfortable with. She was very sweet and knowledgeable about hair and gave me good tips to keep it looking healthy. Overall I had a great experience

Unpretentious and well priced, with a talented and courteous staff. Nikki Kirk is a master colorist (seriously, the girl has skills) but most importantly, she listened to me. And my cut was perfect. Exactly as I asked.

I’m honestly speechless with the results from Ana’s work! I came in with FIRE ENGINE RED hair and this is what she turned it into!!! I can’t even begin to describe how happy I am with it and the compliments I have received on it! Fantastic job doesn’t even do this justice!

Nikki managed to fit me into her busy schedule last night when on a whim I decided to get my hair cut. I told her it felt like a perfect storm since she had time and so did I :-) And then she took time to discuss the shape of my face and the texture of my hair, and then she explained the perfect hair style to compliment me.
She put a conditioning treatment on my hair that made it feel like new hair, and gave me a relaxing shampoo with lot of massaging. Then she cut my hair perfectly, and explained exactly what she was doing and why. She also gave me tips on styling and care. I cannot stress how fantastic Nikki is!
When I was checking out, the adorable receptionist let me know that the owner was giving me $ 5 off as a thank you for checking in there, and they appreciated my business. How awesome is that?
I’ve jumped through several hairstylists since my favorite one moved to Bakersfield a few years ago and I always hoped I’d find someone like Nikki to be my new favorite. This new haircut makes me look younger and my skin fresher. I wish I hadn’t waited so long to cut it! Now I can’t wait to get on a haircut schedule with Nikki and get my hair back to the level it should be. Thank you Nikki!

I loved everything about this salon but mostly Jamie! She was so sweet and really easy to talk to about my hair. She let me show her pictures but helped guide me in a good direction for my hair which is real thick and can be unruly at times. She was a slow and cautious cutter and checked in with me to make sure it was what I wanted. I am so pleased with my results and I am excited to have found a place I want to come back to!
Also, I should note that I called and asked if I could come in within a few hours. The girl at the front desk didn’t make me feel bad for my impulsiveness and said let me check for you. She came back and said that Jamie was willing to stay later to fit me in. How nice is that?
Both girls at the front desk were sweet and welcoming. It felt like a very warm environment!
I was also pleased that there products weren’t 50 dollars! Jamie picked two that she thought would be a good but for me but it never felt pushy! I told here I could only afford one and she didn’t make me feel guilty. She told me which of the two she thought was more important for me right now.
From start to finish a fantastic experience!
