Horrible phone service. I called in to get a quote on Synthetic Turf. When I was explaining what I am looking for the guy on the phone said, «Hurry up and get it out». Are you kidding me? Would anyone want to work with a company like that? I don’t even want to meet them face to face. I rather take my business else where.

Tom and his son designed and installed a drought tolerant landscape for our home. He also did a new concrete driveway and pathway to our front door. It’s been about six months since he completed it and I have been very happy with the result. The yard looks better every day as the plants grow and fill in. His design was creative and my yard is definitely one of the better looking drought tolerant yards I have seen.

Read the reviews and decided to give them a call about landscaping my front yard and eventually the backyard as well. They never returned my call. This is unprofessional in my opinion. Not a good way to run a business. Moving on to someone else who’ll call me back…

So I found this business on Unilocal and was excited by the reviews and instantly called to talk about some projects and ideas I’d like to get started on with my yard. We previously had a horrible experience with a landscaper and while we tried to fix his mistakes as best as we could, we needed a professional to come out.
So while I was aware that the projects we wanted were not huge (replacing the weeds between our pavers with gravel/​taming or removing some vines gone amok/​generally getting things under control), they seemed to be inline with what people left in the reviews and I was hoping that I would like the workers and maybe be able to schedule some seasonal maintenance in addition to getting some work done.
Well, let me say, my projects must not have been good enough. The owner was decidedly not interested in my money or my projects and recommended someone else in Agora Hills instead of taking the jobs himself. Oh, well, I guess I’ll just have to spend my money elsewhere.

My mother warned me not to plant that morning glory vine in the corner of my backyard but I did it anyway. Within the span of about a year, it was growing over my citrus trees, down the fence and creeping into my neighbor’s backyard despite my best efforts to keep it confined. The morning glory travels about as fast as a German assault on Paris, France (we’re talkin’ blitzkrieg!). I knew it was time to do something when its tentacle-​like creepers were inches away from my sliding back door.
I found Kenco Landscaping on Unilocal under landscaping and ground clearing (emphasis on the ground clearing). I called and within the span of a few days, I had an estimate and my flower beds eradicated of this monstrous vine. Tom, the owner of Kenco, brought two helpers and had everything manicured within 5 hours. He also trimmed my citrus trees and cleaned everything up nice and clean.
This was not a glamorous job for a landscaper but an important one to me. Tom treated my project with the same status I gave it. Tom is easy to talk to and is one of those people who enjoy what he does! The finished product shows.
I can once again barbeque, enjoy my backyard!
Remember to listen to your mom about invasive vines or keep Tom’s phone number handy if you ignore her sound advice!

Tom was a life saver and a joy to work with from start to finish of my mom’s front yard make-​over. This project started off with me just wanting to spruce up the flower bed to side of yard and get a bid on new grass (old grass was brown and a bunch of patches in front yard). He met with me for over an hour in our initial consultation. And I was impressed off the bat… this guy knows his stuff! He is quite knowledgeable about the various trees, shrubs and so forth that work well in different climates. With Simi Valley having high winds and coldness at times he talked about what works well and doesn’t in the area. We walked the neighborhood and I was able to see different types of grass and trees that flourish in this climate and those that don’t as well as what landscaping works by the architecture style of each home. I liked this style of talking and walking around your neighborhood in getting ideas and seeing what would work as opposed to the fancy 3D techy stuff they show you on HGTV or something on someones computer because you are seeing it up close in person and learning at the same time. In the end he saved me money by being honest in saying we don’t need to purchase new grass but simply treat the old grass by fertilizing and planting new grass seeds (there is more to it than that but you get the gist). He is brutally honest and told me what I already knew that the yard was outdated and the bushes in the yard were overgrown. I went ahead and agreed to gut the yard and clear out all the old overgrown bushes and go with a whole new look. My mom was skeptical at first but once she met Tom at the nursery to pick out the new shrubs and trees she herself was wowed by how knowledgeable he is. Going to the nursery with Tom is like taking an agriculture/​gardening 101 class. You learn so much, he took his time and was patient with us. In the end the yard looks FANTASTIC!!! My mom, the neighbors, friends EVERYONE who comes by have nothing but high praises. The pricing is fair and reasonable to fit any budget. But the value and quality you get is exceptional! You learn so much in the process of transforming your yard into a beautiful oasis. It is truly worth it.

Work ethic, reasonable pricing, artistic vision like no other

Tom transformed our dirt patch into an oasis about 5 years ago. He created a lush landscape with beautiful concrete, a fountain and an incredible detail to exquisite plants. He brought my dream to life and was very aware of my budget, giving me the best I could afford. Now he comes by officially, to maintain it for us twice a year. A service I recommend to everyone! He trims all the foliage, cleans out the undergrowth and always delightfully surprises me with lovely additions to the flowers. What I like best are Tom’s unofficial visits where he comes by just to check up on the yard and give it a little love. Today he surpised me with a Passiflora Vine I had wanted for years but they are hard to find. Within minutes, butterflies were darting about the yard! Tom is the rare combination of landscaper and artist and I highly recommend his servies to everyone looking to create a beautiful yard!

Tom has done two projects for us. He did our front and back landscape in Simi Valley — it went from a dirt mess to a gorgeous yard with perfect walkways, amazing lighting and the most beautiful plants. When we moved to San Diego, after having disappointing experiences with a landscaper and landscape architect, we called to see if Tom would come to our new home and design our «oasis to be.» He came down and spent several hours looking at the area, the architecture, our likes and dislikes, our wants and needs and then designed a beautiful yard that we loved, but could never have come up with on our own.
As far as workmanship, Tom’s was perfection. He was there daily to make sure everything was perfect. Neat, clean and everything done first rate.
My favorite thing about Tom is his love of plants and trees, and his knowledge about them is second to none. He is truly gifted when it comes to designing and implementing the landscape of your dreams. He also keeps up with all of the latest trends, and had us consider things we had never even seen before– and ended up loving! We would recommend Tom to anyone who wants to transform there outdoor space into something they love and can enjoy for a long time!
