An awesome authentic Mexican taqueria. A gem inside of Macy’s! I frequent Frontera Fresco for its delicious authentic taqueria style tacos, and other quick bites. If you’ve ever been to Mexico City, you can definitely relate to the authenticity of their tacos on how the flavors are mixed together to create a delightful fusion of chipotle blend salsa, cilantro, avocado, onions, and your choice of meat. Their chips and guacamole are a must! The guacamole is made fresh constantly. It is made pretty plain, it’s only avocados, and green roasted tomatillos. However you can add ingredients to your guac if wish, or leave it as is which is fantastic. Toppings for you to choose from can be: bacon, queso cotija, sun dried tomatoes, toasted pepitas, or spicy green chile. Their menu also includes, huaraches, tamales, quesadillas, tortas(which are big, and packed with meats, and other ingredients), salads, soups, deserts, and traditional agua fresca drinks. It’s a small restaurant as real taquerias tend to be. Seating is limited, however service is very fast. The restaurant is very clean, the décor is awesome, you are transported into a gourmet kitchen. You can see the food being prepared behind clear glass. All of the staff works very hard to be as prompt as possible to get you your food even when it’s busy during peak dining hours. Prices may seem a little more than the usual Mexican restaurant, but it’s also because they use local products, or at least products from small farms, and of course because it’s a gourmet meal. The information on their distributors is written for all to see on the wall. If you would like to taste great gourmet authentic Mexican food then this the place for you. Come with an empty stomach, try everything on the menu(just kidding, not really), and be ready to be amazed! Thank you chef Rick Bayless for bringing a real taste of Mexico to Skokie!!! I’m always amazed when I stop by.
