Galt Toys + Galt Baby – Old Orchard Center

I saw that Galt Toys + Galt Baby had some great reviews, so I was super excited to see that there was one nearby in Old Orchard Mall.
When we walked in the store, it was nicely arranged. There was a large toy section along with a section dedicated to car seats, strollers, and furniture/​cribs. A super nice worker stopped over to see how we were doing and we said we came to learn as much as possible about baby stuff. He was so nice and went through some stroller and car seat demos with us! We left with so much great information as well as reading material to look at when we got home. He talked about features that are super handy to have in a stroller that I would have never thought about (this is our first pregnancy).
We didn’t buy anything yet — but I am excited to go back and pick something out for our baby! Such a nice store, wonderful staff that is so helpful, and a great selection of items!

So sad and so pathetic that my daughter who is 8 years old saves her change to purchase items that she looks forward to and is told by the staff at Galt Baby they will not accept her pennies or any more change from her because they already have $ 4 in change. She bought one Beanie Boo and wanted a Shopkins item for $ 2 and was not allowed to purchase it and was very upset. She told this story to various individuals 5 times today alone. If I was with her I would have not let her purchase any item but she was with her dad. It is sad because this used to be her favorite store and she looked forward to going there. We even bought a $ 130 scooter there earlier this year among other items probably about $ 200 over the last couple of years. I am a single mom and I try and teach the value of money to my daughter. What kind of example is this store that is for children? They should lead by example. You just lost this customer and taught my daughter how not to treat others. Not a good way to run a business.

I have a personal policy of not leaving a review of less than 3 stars, so let me phrase it like this – their selection is fantastic. Their service however. Horrible. My little nephew was born early and we came in looking for things to spoil him with. Needless to say, my interaction at Galt was very «Pretty Woman“ish. My wife and I walked in… in casual clothes, rather dressed down. I looked at many, many items and spoke louder than usual to my wife as to whether or not we should get x, y, or z for our new nephew. We stayed in the shop for a good 10 – 15 minutes… without a hello, hi, how may I help you despite 2 different employees walking right past us.
Than a woman, dressed rather well, with her daughter probably about 7 months pregnant walks in and gets greeted immediately and they walk over to the strollers and go into in-​depth conversation about what to get, why certain models are better/​worse than others.
I look at my wife and roll my eyes. We had easily tallied up $ 200 worth of stuff to purchase in our heads. But we left, without a single item.
As much as I hate to admit it, its a tad hard to not take such interactions personally. My credit line is probably comparable or even higher than the other woman but needless to say, my money doesn’t speak the same language here. I see no reasonable explanation as to why we were not greeted, helped, or spoken to. It’s okay though, it’s a mall so we found other places to spend our money, hah.

Horrible horrible customer service. They DO NOT stand behind their products if they are not performing up to standard. I purchased a car seat from them which was a high-​end model called Cybex Gold. When we purchased it they told us that if anything went wrong that it was covered by warranty and two weeks after we purchased it I brought it back because the hood chipped off. The manager told me that I was the first customer for that ever to happen to and that it was my fault that it happened. I have other children that are older and I have never had any problems with any of the other car seats that I used. I am extremely gentle on my car seats so that I can resell them after I am done with each child, not to mention that I came back 2 weeks after I purchased the car seat to show them that the hood had chipped off with regular ordinary use. Despite the fact that it was brand-​new and broken they refused to replace it or to exchange it for another seat. They placed all blame on the customer and told me that they would get a replacement hood from Cybex and they did however they’re installing ‘expert’ put the new hood in incorrectly, after taking over two hours to figure out how to put it in. Hence, the reason why the hood became disconnected again for a second time. I brought it back to the store to explain what happened and the store manager got EXTREMELY defensive, called me names, mocked me, saying that she ‘must be super woman’ since she never had a problem with the cybex. She acted entirely unprofessional and classless.
I’d HIGHLY discourage anyone doing business with them. You are unfortunately asking for issues when dealing with them. Poorly run and dishonest business.

I give this store not 5 but 10 stars!!! I’m so impressed with the service. They will help you with anything that has to do with babies. These 3 ladies that work at this store make you feel like if you were part of the family.
I want to give Dawn, Katie and Chris praise for their excellent customer service and their extremely easygoing personalities! Definitely planning to go back if I ever need anything for my future daughter. Thank you girls for all the hard work you do! –Jose & Jackie & baby Victoria

Pretty good selection of toys and baby stuff. Big problem, they don’t have a handicap bottom to push which makes it super hard to get on to the store with a stroller and not once the employees tried to help, not on my way in and neither when coming out after buying a lot of stuff.

I walked in to the store with my little one In her stroller and after walking around for a few minutes obviously looking at merchandise not one employee asked me if I needed some help. What’s worse is when I walked near the baby/​nursery stuff I couldn’t get my stroller through to shop since there were strollers and chairs in the way. I had to move a stroller and floor you myself to get to the merchandise I wanted to view even though I was standing in front of the register struggling to nice stuff to get through. So next I pick up something to find out the price, appropriate age, etc. still not one employee approaches me and what pisses me off us I see 2 or 3 of them talking. I noticed they were all eager to help anyone looking at the expensive strollers. I have those and maybe because I had my snap and go and car seat today I didn’t look like a buyer. Oh well I can drop my $$ somewhere else on my nephew’s gift and chair for my daughter.

I just bought a car seat for my granddaughter. That’s a very important purchase. I am happy to write that my purchase was treated as an important transaction.
I did the usual research and called about a car seat that was well reviewed. Shannon asked some questions and gave me some advice, advice I ultimately followed. A great Step One.
When I got there I was shown everything, made my choice and got a no-​rush, complete installation and set-​up lesson. Even with other shoppers in the store I got more than 40 minutes of see it and do it instruction on the demo automobile seat they have in the store.
Step Three: I took public transportation to Old Orchard. Shannon asked me if I would like her to deliver it to my home instead of my taking it home on the bus. Nice, right? VERY nice.
Finally, when she delivered it to me she told me she had filled out the Warranty Registration and mailed it to Britax. Thanks, I hate those cards!
Great store, everyone knows that. Great selection, the Britax Frontier 90 car seat, as in the seat I judged the best, safest seat made. And superlative service.
Shop on Amazon? Sure, and spend a week learning the safe way to install this? No, go to Galt. You get what you pay for.

I have been going to Galt for as long as I can remember… and have NEVER been let down or disappointed. I am always greeted when I walk in. Even with four kids, they are always able to let me leave happy (and the kids happy) as they get unique toys or items and I always leave happy as well. I have bought my strollers from there as well as carseats… and the first time I didn’t with my first child…(as I bought at a competitors store in Lincolnwood)…I ended up with garbage. I have always been happy with all of my strollers and car seats as well as accessories purchased there. I wish they would expand with furniture for juveniles… oh and the baby furniture is just too cute and excellently built! You definitely get what you pay for… so if you want something that will last… look no further.

Unimpressive. I came here looking for a specific stroller, for the new 2014 edition. I called ahead to confirm they did have it. Upon arriving at the store, I was not greated by anyone. Despite being with my baby in a stroller, no one walked over to help me decipher through the mess of strollers that are clumped together. Finally after about 10 min of dealing with it myself (and a baby in tow!) one of the ladies walked over and asked if I needed help. Poor customer service. I asked about the differences between 2013 vs 2014, (I knew them and tested her, to see her knowledge), and she said «well the logo is a little different». Are you serious? You work in a baby store, you should have this stuff memorized. Its appalling for the customer to outsmart you in something you sell and should have more knowledge about.
I tried to put my baby in one of the strollers to see how she fit, the lady walked away and went back to the cash register section to play on her computer (no other customer was in the store). NO HELP! When I asked about some of the premium strollers, she said «ya, they are up there», referencing that they are up on a shelf about 7 ft, so you can’t even touch the wheel. Gee I see that, and I could see about the same thing online. The reason I came to the store with my baby is to try them out to decide which to purchase. Nada, no help again.
What also irked me the wrong way was a statement she made along the lines of «the average family has 6 strollers, you should just get several and not look for one or a few to do the job». You have got to be kidding. Is this what you were taught on «how to get a sale» in training? I hope not.
What use is a store (that touts itself as being «premium») if their staff just sits on their computers and offers no help or knowledge on the products they sell? NONE, that’s why everyone just buys online and saves themselves the hassle. Guess I will follow suit.

Found an excellent toy for a friend’s semi-​newborn.
Good store with a varied selection.

We went here to purchase a second convertible car seat for my parents’ car and the car seat installation which is free with purchase of the car seat. The saleswoman was very knowledgeable and kindly fixed my current carseat (oops, bad parents), that was not purchased from Galt, for free. I also like the on site stroller repair shop. My only gripe is that wasn’t a really great range in styles, prices, and brands for convertible carseats, so my grumpy parents wound up paying more than we anticipated.

I was referred to this store by a friend. My Mother and I went in to see their selection of strollers-​they have some that we couldn’t find anywhere else to actually look at. We were very pleased to have had the nicest sales girl walk thru all 4 of the strollers I wanted to see in person. Not only did she know how to open and close them (we were at Babies R Us and that was a disaster…) but she gave us very honest and real pros and cons of each. The store was busy, but she didn’t try to rush off to go help otehr people. She answered all my questions. I think her name was Sharon… After stopping by another few times over the next few months, my husband & I did make a purchase-​and here’s the best part-​they delivered the stroller right to the house assembled! No I am not kidding! And the delivery guy even reminded me how to open and close the stroller. He also made sure I could open and close it myself before he left! Everyone was great! Thanks Galt!

It’s sooo hard for me to give a 1 star review but I just have to with this one because this is not the first time their customer service was ‘not very good’ (I guess is the nice way to put it).
First, last summer, my sister-​in-​law went to check out a double stroller because her twins were starting to grow out of the infant car seats. She got ignored and the woman who ended up helping her, wasn’t very helpful and rushed.
So… I vowed to never shop there again because why would I when there’s The Right Start and BuyBuyBaby and all that right?
Well… Last week, a friend and I went to Old Orchard and she wanted to step in because she had a question about parts for one of her strollers.
While I was waiting, I ended up asking about the availability of a new double stroller that I have been trying to hunt down since last year and they told me that it would be in stock within the next few weeks. I aksed if there was a call list and they took my name and number down. I even asked them if the waiting list was long and they said no.
Anyway, I just saw a post on their facebook wall from a few hours ago that went, «Hey, Hey… anyone looking for the hottest stroller around and can’t get their hands on one? We have a „mono“ in blue available right now…847−329−7712 :) It won’t last for that long… call and ask for Katie or Shannon»
If I would have known that they weren’t going to call me, I would have made sure to call everyday and not miss out. So disappointing.
So, I think after 2 strikes, my 1 star is fair right?
Sorry! I don’t know why I’m apologizing… 1 stars really are hard to give. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to update this review with more stars.
