This is our first time at Akira. We have been at this location for other similar restaurants. It was a We evening(Tuesday) but the atmosphere was very pleasant. We ordered the Bento box with chicken and steak teriyaki($ 19) and the 5 roll sushi platter($ 20). With the dinners, hey both came with salad or miso soup, the bento cane with both. My wife enjoyed the BB. It was a very nice portion and very tasty. My 5 roll platter was perfect. Everything was delicious and full of flavor. Nice portions too!

Pretty stellar for take-out — I have never dined in. Ordered the Smithtown roll(which is like a sushi sandwich), the avocado tuna salad, and the wasabi shumai. These dishes outshined any other sushi place I’ve been to in the area. The fish was very fresh with interesting sauces and creative flavors. It also only took 20 minutes to arrive!

My boyfriend and I order sushi and sashimi from here all the time. It always tastes fresh and their delivery time is always relatively short. One time I ordered something completely wrong, and when I called back to reorder, they didn’t charge me again, even though it was my mistake! Great customer service and great food!

Site where Kirin Habachi was. Guess new owner/cook. Food taste different. Ordered a few dinners to take out, asked if I could sub fried for white rice, they said no and had to buy side orders of fried so white went to waste. Salad a little brown when opened container and teriyaki chicken tasted like Lawry’s Hawaiian marinade on it. Other choices in Smithtown area I’ll try next. Miso soup tasted like seaweed in salt water. Maybe I’ll stock up when I get to Robert Moses next and sell on the side if people like it…

I ordered food online so my review will be based on that experience. It was about 5:10pm when I decided that I wanted sushi. I had been craving it for a while and thought it would be a great opportunity to check out Akira. I pass this place driving to and from school(SBU. Go Seawolves!). I’ve always wanted to check it out because I love hibachi and have been really getting into sushi more and more over the years. So, I checked it out with the power of Unilocal and tried to order online through the app. The app went crazy so I went to Akira’s website and saw 10% off if you order online!(scoreee) I ordered the Eagle Roll, the Butterfly Roll, Shooting Stars, and the Honey Grilled Chicken on a Stick. I was feeling adventurous and actually chose things outside the box. I don’t usually order food with raw fish in them but today, I felt like it was time to try it. I submitted the order around 5:18pm and received a call making sure what I wanted was submitted correctly. On the ride home, I stopped by around 5:30 with 5 minutes to spare. Got an email saying it’ll be ready at 5:35. The hostess, Tammy, was very sweet and took my payment without ease. I had to wait at the bar for a few minutes. Lo and behold, I received my order at exactly 5:35! Wow wow wee wa.(Borat reference) The Eagle Roll was sweet potato tempura inside the roll with cooked lobster salad, crabmeat and shrimp on the outside. Delish. The Butterfly Roll was raw tuna, salmon, and yellowtail with avocado inside with tobiko(fish eggs) on the top. The Butterfly Roll was so pretty, I couldn’t wait to eat it. I almost wish I didn’t order out so I could have enjoyed them right away! My car smelled really good the whole ride home. The Butterfly Roll did not disappoint. YUM. The Honey Grilled Chicken Sticks were nommmmm. Good appetizer, and the Shooting Stars were pretty good as well. I bought all of this stuff with the intention of having left overs. it was hard to stop eating the rolls, but future me will be very happy that present me saved them. The inside of Akira is pretty small. The regular tables are in the same room as the hibachi tables. I am used to having them in separate rooms because hibachi shows can get pret-ty loud. I will definitely be back here to dine in.

Ordered takeout, so this review is based on the food and delivery. After I ordered online, the payment confirmation didn’t tell me how long the wait time was. I had no idea how long it would take to deliver. After 45 min, the delivery man showed up. He was very courteous and even opened the glass door for me! Although the delivery was a little slow, I still gave him a generous tip. My order consisted of a spicy salmon roll, California roll, and shrimp tempura roll. The shrimp tempura and California rolls were both fantastic! All ingredients smelled and tasted fresh, which is key for sushi lovers. On the other hand, the spicy salmon roll was very mushy and completely fell apart while eating. The roll was filled with way too much salmon, which made the roll have an overbearing mushy feel. Based on this experience, I’d probably have to try their food in-house to get a better gauge on quality. Based on other reviews, their dine in experience is entertaining, so I’ll write a follow-up when I do that.

I literally had SO much fun here. My first time at hibachi, although I ate sushi. I went with a group of about 5 people. The scorpion bowl here is so amazing, I suggest sharing it. The sushi was also extremely amazing. I’m so happy I work right around the corner because I’m going to be ordering from here all the time now. Will be back very soon. I’m not sure of who our chef was but he really made us feel like we were getting the full experience, he was awesome. The only thing I didn’t like about this place was the lighting. Way too bright in there, they should dim it down a bit… People(I think) would be more out going & would probably drink much more and have a much better time.

This place used to be sumou but changed to akira while keeping the same workers and menu items. I have a sneaking suspicion that they changed their name because they had such a bad reputation in regards to customer service. Food wasn’t bad but the service is sad. The sushi chef had to come over to take orders at the counter because the host and servers were off lollygagging. He couldn’t speak English all that well either but I think the host came to his rescue in the end. Good luck with rebuilding your restaurant and I hope you do better this time!
