History
Established in 1982.
Since Cumberland Diamond Exchange first opened its doors, the goal of the owners Mark Jacobson and his brother Wayne was to always make their customers feel at home. Starting with only 1200 square feet, the fledgling company followed a path of expansion every five years until moving into their current location in 1992. Regardless of the size or location of their store, the Jacobson’s remained committed to greeting everyone who walked through their doors with a smile, making sure to refer to them by name, and offering them a beverage. These were just a few of the ways they created an at home vibe for the store.
Fast forward 33 years to Mark and Rhonda Jacobson, owners of CDE, cutting a bright orange ribbon signifying the re-model of this same space, and the goal hasn’t changed. «We have always sought to make our customers feel like they’re visiting our home and this remodel had that concept as its core,» explains Rhonda.
Meet the Business Owner
Rhonda and Mark J.
Business Owner
Jacobson first settled in the Atlanta area in 1976, starting an advertising agency whose clients included a local jewelry store. He soon became the store’s in-house marketing head, eventually rising to become its sales manager. After parting ways with the jewelry store, Jacobson developed the concept for a fine jewelry business of his own, and in 1982, he and his brother, Wayne, opened the doors to Cumberland Diamond Exchange. Soon after, Mark met his wife, Rhonda, and brought her on board as an owner in 1984.
Mark & Rhonda Jacobson have been active in the Cobb community since CDE was founded. Rhonda serves on the board of trustees for the WellStar Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting north Georgia’s WellStar Health Systems. Community involvement is also very important to Cumberland Diamond Exchange and ties in with the philosophy of service. They are involved with many charities, including the American Cancer Society, SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center, and more.
