Courtyard San Diego Del Mar/Solana Beach

The stay wa fine, but I was extremely insulted when after I went for a morning walk and sat in the lounge area of my floor, I had an employee ask me «Youre not a guest here are you?» He informed me that his manager at the front desk thought i looked raggedy and «ghetto» and demanded I show the employee my room key or theyd call security to escort me out for tresspassing. I proceeded to walk to my room and check out early. Will never return!

This was the best Courtyard that I have stayed in. The rooms are large and the layout is comfortable. It appears to be recently updated. The bathroom has new faucets that have a long spout that make it easy to use. The shower was upgraded as well.
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I asked for local dinner suggestions and received excellent recommendations. There are many choices of restaurants in the area.
The hotel restaurant is basic but offers something for the busy person. They do serve alcohol and have a happy hour.

Very clean, updated rooms, great customer service by front desk. Location is perfect, walking distance to beach, Del Mar Beach is just 5 min. walk !(
). Solana Beach or Fletcher Cove Park is about 15 min walk (
). Bistro has great selection for both adults and kids. Healthy options too :). Also walking distance (5 min. or less) to few restaurants, fancy and casual. We will definitely stay here again ! 4 STARS just because of the price :(Other than that, the place is excellent !

I booked this hotel last minute for Valentine’s Day weekend. I booked directly through Marriott so the price was a bit more than I would normally like to spend on a place like this. However it was the only place near the Cineopolis Luxury theaters with any available rooms. Side note, upon seeing a picture of the bathroom I totally fell in love with the idea of soaking in that gorgeous Victorian style bathtub.
We arrived at about 5pm so the lobby was very empty and quiet. Checking in was a breeze but they do have a parking fee of $ 12 so be aware of that. We were quickly given our key cards to our Executive King Suite on the first floor.
The room was conveniently close to the lobby, the parking structure, and the patio led us right out to the swimming pool. I loved the high ceilings and the blue walls. The bathroom was heaven. Two sinks, a bathtub, a shower, and a separate toilet. Overall it was such a spacious room. Very modern for a Courtyard Marriott hotel.
The only real complaints I have about this place is the paper thin walls. I was woken up at 5am because the room next to us was playing music.
The bed and pillows were so uncomfortable which I believe was the reason I woke up with a bad neck sprain.
Would I stay here again? Yes, most likely. If the prices were cheaper, although I would definitely have to remember to bring my own pillows.

AMAZING!!! stayed here for two nights in the studio suit, the beach is just 5 minutes away «walking» The rooms are amazing as well! Great staff!!!

Nice quiet hotel. One of the better remodels I’ve seen at any courtyard design wise. However some of the rooms still have unfinished details which annoys me. The gym is large but with limited equipment. Overall a nice hotel if your looking for a quiet stay.
I wouldn’t recommend this hotel if you have kids. Not a great family hotel. Good for travelers but I wouldn’t bring my kids here.
1) Most of the property has open access to your rooms from the street. It’s a little weird and if my kids were here it would make me uncomfortable that someone could break in from the slider just walking up off the streets. Not a very secure hotel. The walls are a little bit thin for my comfort as well. It is clean and I haven’t had any real problems here though. Over all I’ve spent about 17 nights here and it’s a quiet and secluded stay.

My department booked approximately 40 rooms here for our overnight offsite. The Courtyard was just okay. As usual, they reserved parking outside for our bus, each hotel room key (card) had our names labeled on them. The front lobby area is small, but nicely decorated. (PHOTOS INCLUDED)
My room was on the first floor and I literally had to ask 2 people how to get to my room as the signage wasn’t that great. «Go around the corner then go outside.» «Huh, go outside?» … Eventually I found it! LOL Upon walking up to my room, I found that the door was not closed all the way and already open. There was no maids inside, but I still had to check every corner to make sure no one else was in the room!
My room had two Queen sized beds, a desk, and a reading chair. Free WiFi!
You can tell they tried to do some modern upgrades to it with the floors and décor. The bathroom was a bit cramped. My TV was having issues. I was watching a show and all of a sudden the sound goes off and another time there was no picture, but it had sound.
I also had issues with the temperature in the room. The room was very stuffy so I turned the A/​C on to 70 degrees. After leaving the room to walk to the dog beach and having dinner at the Brigantine… I returned to the room to still find my room stuffy. I turned the temp down to 67 degrees for it to be at a comfortable temperature. I’m usually fine with sleeping on other beds, but had a tough time sleeping on their mattress and pillows.
They have a small café outside by the pool area called the Bistro. The hotel provided a continental style «grab & go» breakfast for us which was okay, but the overpriced boxed lunches were horrific. (Details are in a separate review for The Bistro.)
Overall, I thought the hotel itself was «ok».

Loved the stay here. Great location, walking distance from the beach and bars. The rooms are soo spacious, cute, and cumfy, love the wood floors, and amenities. Overall a very pleasant stay here.

Great location. Walk to beach. Beautiful Solano Coastal Rail trail across the street. Surrounded by restaurants.
Nice spacious room, with patio overlooking pool area.
Bistro is nice and open from 6:30−10. Sell starbucks coffee. Has healthy options for breakfast. Green smoothies, egg white breakfast sandwich, fruit cups.
They have me a warm fresh choc chip cookie when I arrived!!!
Con– I could hear the person walking around above me.
Other than that, great place and affordable rate, I’d stay again!

We loved our stay here. The rooms where clean, had modern furniture and fixtures and lots of space. Two adults and a child fit well in the room. The courtyard was a pleasant place to go. The pool was nice and after my wife and I got tired and our son wanted to continue to swim, they had a nice fireplace and furniture which we sat at, enjoyed an adult beverage and still could keep an eye on our son swimming. The coffeeshop/​café had good food too.

Location is super close to the beach, the room was spacious, the staff was VERY friendly from the checkin throughout the hotel. The bathroom is small but it’s not like you go to a hotel for the bathroom… would stay here again.

Definitely try to get the executive suite. It’s worth it. The rooms are definitely bigger and nicer.
The walls are pretty thin, so stick to the second floor and away from elevators if you don’t want to hear every that arrives late at night. It sounded like the globetrotters arrived around midnight on our first night there.
The snack bar in the pool area is great, although a little high priced. Don’t order the chicken quesadilla $ 20.00 for two quesadillas that tasted like they had marinara sauce in them.
People at the front desk aren’t the brightest, although they seem to try hard. If you upgrade your room and get quoted a price ASK FOR A WRITTEN CONFIRMATION!!! (I took their word for it. Boo on me apparently)
They will not honor the price they quoted you and seem uninterested at making it right. Their response seems to be to shrug it off and claim that you probably misunderstood.
This soured what started off as a pretty good experience.

I wonder if this has always been a Courtyard, or if the structure is pre-​existing from some old hotel chain, since the layout doesn’t quite feel like a normal Courtyard. Maybe it was for the space-​savings in Solana Beach? Not sure.
Room was updated and clean, but felt a tad small and the bathroom layout was a bit foreign. Very quiet at night, but it got loud in the early morning as people were headed to the beach.
Parking is $ 12.00 per night in the underground lot.

Not sure why this hotel doesn’t have many reviews. I am really satisfied with my stay. The wood floor is indeed a plus, especially for family with kids! Room is big. The front desk lady was nice to give me a 2 beds room, though i booked king thru priceline.
Beds are comfy and clean. No headboard like previous Unilocaler mentioned is not a problem for me.

My friend had her bachelorette party this past weekend at this hotel and we had an enjoyable stay. We booked one large suite and two standard rooms for a group of nine. Bear in mind we were a more laidback group who just wanted to relax and catch up with one another rather than the typical «WOOO!!!» bachelorettes.
This place is great if you are looking for a lowkey, pleasant beach vacation. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated with a good amount of space in the sleeping areas (though the bathrooms in the standard rooms are on the small side). Staff is friendly and helpful enough. There is a pool and jacuzzi on site and the beach is a 5 – 10 minute walk away. Several casual eateries are within walking distance and nicer restaurants are a short drive away. A liquor store and pharmacy are also close by for last minute alcohol and toiletry purchases. It was perfect for our needs.
However, if you’re looking to party, this is not the place to stay. I saw a lot of families and older folk as fellow guests. The hotel seems to be in a quiet, almost sleepy neighborhood, so while the area is safe and clean, its restaurants and businesses are closed by midnight or earlier. Be prepared to turn in for the night before 1!

Great hotel, clean and the front desk is easy to access. Very friendly staff! The hotel has a small bistro on the property with some great healthy food. The hotel has a beautiful outdoor area with plenty of seats. Will recommend!

Nobody at Reception for 15 mins for check in. Just a sign saying be right back. Perhaps it was 20 mins. Obviously a frequent occurrence if there is a ready– made sign.
Then key did not work.
Then Receptionist made a key (after I had to return to the lobby) and followed me to room. That key did not work.
Then she returned to change rooms. A in all a 30 minute complete joke of a disorganized check in process.
Highly recommend not staying here.

5 star room! 3 star service, I booked on Priceline yesterday and I show up, there’s no rooms? Wtf! I had to wait for them to clean a room at 10 pm for me. My wife had to cry in order to get a room that sucks but Grammy go to… The room on the other hand was very nice and clean! Nice area too close to beach too!

Most ridiculous hotel I have ever been into. Walls and paint peeling with the noisiest air conditioning ever. Checked in and checked right out.

I stay in Marriott brand hotels very often and I have to say that this is the worst I have ever stayed in.
First of all, the bathroom is just weird. When the other reviewers say that the bathroom is tiny, they are being kind. The bathtub is shallow, and there is very little space between the bathtub and wall which is where the toilet is. So you are sitting there with the toilet paper holder pressing into your leg and the shower curtain brushing your shoulder on the other side. Definitely a claustrophobic’s nightmare. In addition, there were spots on the shower curtain next to the toilet and I don’t even what to think where they came from. Then, the lights were all motion activated with a short on time so you are continually waving your arms to keep the light on.
The room itself had two queen beds that were the hardest, firmest beds I have slept on. They were very uncomfortable and not what I would expect from a Courtyard hotel. They were also very high, we had to almost climb into them.
The TV looked like it as minutes away from falling off the wall and there wasn’t much rooms to store our stuff. There were no dressers except for maybe and extra drawer in the single nightstand that was between the two beds. In addition, there was a funky working desk that two drawers attached to it on the side. Definitely not enough for four people.
Everything seems to shut down at 10pm. The café, even the nice fireplace got extinguished at 10pm even though we and two other couples were sitting there enjoying it and chatting. Even the market inside stops selling beer and wine at an earlier time than you would expect.
The final thing was the walls. They were paper thin and normal sound levels are heard on the other side. We even got a call from the front desk that someone had complained about the noise in our room. There was no loud music, no shouting or yelling. And they said, «We take our noise complaints very seriously Mr. Jones». Well how about taking your sound proofing between rooms very seriously Mr Courtyard Front Desk Guy!
We checked out after one day even though we were supposed to stay two more nights.
I would stay away from this place if I were you.
