Michelle is a great hair stylist for so many reasons. The two that are obvious to me are that she’s a great listener and has a great memory for detail. These qualities enable her to plan a coarse of action that goes on for months, allowing you to do something more creative than other good stylists. Check her out and try something new.

Perfectly fine hair cut, but a little on the expensive side at $ 25. You can get the same quality for cheaper at other local barber shops.

Getting my summer cut on. I know there’s 4 seasons but I get a haircut only 3 times a year. Lol… I call Michelle an hour ago and ask or more like beg if she can fit me in. Of course! That’s why I love her. Never mind the fact that I love love love the way she cuts my hair. I’m not one for wild doos. Lol…

Another amazing haircut at a very reasonable price.

Michelle is the greatest!!! She makes me look as good as possible! I hope they are always open for the best haircuts and the best laughs!

Somewhat surprising that all the customers were male, but it is a good value for a haircut someone who knows what they are doing, especially for the clipper cut. However, Michelle is fully capable of going fancy — from scissors to straightening to color.

Michelle destroyed my hair. I went in to see Michelle to for a full foil. I showed her a picture of what I wanted (it was a picture of Jennifer Aniston) with blonde highlights. After Michelle did my hair, she left me in the dryer for too long and my hair came out white with gold spots. She then went over the gold spots with more foils, further damaging my hair. She did not even blow dry my hair herself, she had someone else do it. My hair came out terrible — I have gold stripes on my hair. I never asked for gold stripes, nor were there any in the picture I showed her. I also have random stripes of blonde on my roots (see in pictures) and blotches of white in my hair. I will never return to this salon again. I went to another salon to get suggestions on how to fix it, and they were apalled at what Michelle did to my hair. I cannot speak to her cutting ability, but do not go to this salon if you are looking for quality coloring. I will also be sharing this review on my personal Facebook page and on the salon’s Facebook page.

Patrick is a color master! I have had half a dozen great cuts by Patrick and decided to finally pull the trigger on a color change. Patrick talked me through each step and the end result is absolutely fantastic! I was a little nervous that the white blonde I wanted would end up brassy or yellowed, but it turned out EXACTLY the shade I wanted. He’s amazing!

I booked an appointment at Studio M after researching local salons on Unilocal.Since it had so many stellar reviews, I decided to give it a go. Yesterday morning I called to book a cut and color appointment and was happy that an evening time slot with Patrick was available.
He was fantastic! I went from a vivid pink, purple, and burgundy fade with about 2″ of brown outgrowth to a uniform dark red violet. It only took one half hour round of color application to achieve the desired result. My hair is now full of dimension and looks healthy! In addition to doing an excellent job with color, Patrick did something a stylist has NEVER done for me — persuade me to not get a haircut! He said that my hair was actually very healthy and that I wasn’t in need of a trim. How many other stylists would take advantage and proceed with an unnecessary haircut just to make extra money?!
Looks like I have finally found my go-​to stylist and salon in Boston :)

After seeing the cost of my men’s haircut increase every few months at the salon I had been going to for the last 5 years, I found Michelle and followed her when she opened Studio M last year. She does an outstanding job! A few of the guys I work with have the high and tight style and we’re constantly comparing notes on where we go, how much it cost, etc. I consistently get compliments the next day at work whenever I go in to get a cut from Michelle. She has taken the time to figure out what I like, what is going to look good, and is able to adapt throughout the year if I want to go shorter or longer, depending on the weather.
The shop itself is always clean and comfortable. Though a wait is rare, there is a big comfy couch to sit in while you’re waiting for your turn in the chair.
The shop is on one of the busier streets in Somerville, but I don’t usually have a problem finding a spot on the street right outside, and there’s a free municipal lot right across the street if there aren’t any street spots available.
For the quality of work and attention to detail Michelle provides, the price is extremely reasonable and competitive. Even after switching jobs a few months ago, and no longer working in Somerville, it is well worth the trip to Somerville Ave every 3 – 4 weeks to go to Studio M to see Michelle and get fresh.
I can enthusiastically and without reservation recommend Michelle and Studio M! If you are seeking a friendly, unpretentious, yet relaxing and refreshing experience for your men’s (or women’s!) haircut, look no further.

I have been coming to Michelle for over two years finding her after a very bad experience which left me with damaged over processed hair. She has gotten my hair shiny and smooth again while keeping highlights!

I’ve been going to Patrick for about 3 years now, originally at the salon where he used to work, and now I’ve finally tracked him down at Studio M. I realized that in all of this time, I have never written him a review, which is not fair, because he is so so great. Every single haircut he has ever given me has been fantastic — and I’ve asked for a wide range of styles and cuts, and can be quite picky.
So, after finding out that Patrick had moved, I visited Studio M for the first time yesterday, and it’s a great little salon — very clean and a great location, and (in my limited interaction) the other staff there seemed very nice. Prices are totally reasonable too, especially for the quality that you’re getting. I seriously cannot recommend Patrick and Studio M enough.

I have had my hair done in a dozen places throughout Boston. Studio M is hands down the best. I will drive across the city at the height of traffic to have my hair done by Michelle. Not only does she do a great cut and color, the atmosphere at Studio M is inviting and Michelle is always willing to squeeze you in whenever needed.
My last visit to Studio M, Michelle colored my hair and Patrick trimmed it and gave me GL guarantee blow out. I have never felt prettier. When all was said and done, I felt like I just stepped off of a commercial set for some fabulous hair product.
Thank you both again! I won’t be getting my hair done anywhere else :)

I have had my hair cut in a million different cities, and even halfway across the globe. I haven’t been loyal to a salon in probably 5 years. Studio M has totally changed me. I’ve loved every cut from the salon (I’ve had Michelle and Kathy cut my hair), and I always leave smiling and with EXACTLY what I want. The prices are unbeatable and the service is top notch.
Just how great are they? I had my hair highlighted for the first time EVER by Kathy and was so pleased despite being extremely nervous and obviously hesitant. She sat me down, talked me through it, and gave me exactly what I was looking for. Michelle was great about talking me through it too and, though Patrick has never done my hair before, he was also really great. I love love love my hair, and Kathy was as kind and patient as can be.
I’m picky, but this place nails it every time for me.

I’ve had a few not-​so-​great hair experiences in Boston which is always frustrating. Hair is so important!!! Especially when you color your hair.
Based on tons of Unilocal recs for Patrick, I found him at Studio M where he moved from a previous salon. He is really great! He’s fun, friendly, and gives honest advice. He does exactly what you ask for too, which is huge. Don’t you hate when your colorist/​stylist just does what he/​she wants? The worst. Patrick is the opposite. He LISTENS!
Now as a blonde, I take my highlights very seriously. If you give a blonde the wrong shade for her skintone, it’ll look alllll sorts of wrong. Patrick knows what’s up. He put a bunch of different colors in my hair to give it a natural look with plenty of dimension. He really put a lot of time in effort into my foils. I was in the chair for quite a while but the end product was so worth it.
And best part? This place is NOT crazy expensive. It’s right what I’d expect to pay. I got a cut & full foils (like 4 colors!) for around $ 135. That’s amazing.

My review is specifically for Michelle, the owner. Despite all the good reviews on Unilocal,I found her being «polite» only when I agreed with her cutting. The moment I voiced out my different opinions (such as I think her cut is still too thick and cutting the side at an angle will look better on me), her smile faded immediately with an annoyed voice telling me «well, I’m not Patrick!», as I mentioned in the very beginning of my appointment that Patrick there gave me a great cut when he was at Hair at Christine&Co. Moreover, when I walked in at the time of my appointment, she was styling for another hair stylist who works there (as she had a party to go to) and had me wait for more than 10 mins past my appointment starting time. But when I wanted her to trim a little bit more at the end of my session, she was very impatient saying «your appointment is over!». I was charged $ 65 before tips for cutting long hair to above should-​length short. I would be ok with the price if I was at least treated like a valued customer, but I was very upset that I was treated this way. I even paid her 20% tips (here I blame myself for being a nice person).
I think I would still go back, just for Patrick, definitely not Michelle again.

Okay, Michelle contacted me asking about the specifics and offered to correct my haircut for free by Patrick. I really appreciate that they reached out with a solution. So I’m changing my reviews to 3 stars.

Michelle and Patrick are great at cutting hair, and I would recommend seeing either of them. They both really listen to what you want versus what your hair does and create a harmony of the two. I have struggled with haircuts that just don’t work for my thick, poofy, wavy hair, but Michelle and Patrick know how to work with it and leave me feeling lucky to have my natural hair– and somehow there’s no poof anymore?!
The studio is easy to find and has street parking available. It’s a little bit of a walk from the Porter T stop, but you’ll probably want to parade your new ‘do around anyway!

Michelle is awesome. Not only is she great at what she does, but she’s fast, she listens to what you want and gets it, and she’s super friendly and fun to talk to. Even though I no longer live nearby, I made a point to come back after my first experience was so good. Very happy with the results.
Also, the price is super reasonable!
COULD NOT RECOMMEND MORE HIGHLY.

This salon is awesome — Patrick did an amazing job at asking me great questions about what I wanted, made me feel super listened to, and then he did an even more amazing job at making my hair look beautiful. He had great hair advice, was super friendly and personable and made the whole experience excellent. I’ll definitely be coming back!

I was oh so happy to find out that my favorite stylist, Patrick, had made his way over to Studio M. I went to see him last Friday for a cut and color correction — a sorely needed one at that.
It was my first time in Studio M — and I must say, it’s a great spot! Easy to find, easy to park at (plenty of street parking right out front), clean, comfortable atmosphere, and the owner Michelle is as friendly, charming, and professional as can be.
But anyway! Back to the hair: Patrick (the saint that he is) spent the better part of FIVE HOURS meticulously correcting the 18 months worth of horrible drugstore straightouttathebox dye jobs that I had subjected my poor locks to; bringing the whole haggard mess back to a completely gorgeous shade of my natural auburn. He stayed *well* beyond business hours to make sure that he got it just right. And THEN — well into hour four — he made sure to give me the beautiful cut and styling that I’ve consistently come to expect from him.
VERY reasonable prices for the superior quality of cut/​color/​styling, to boot.
I will follow that man wherever he — and his scissors — may go!
