Meet the Business Owner

Kathleen G.

Business Owner

Discretion Brewing is a family business.

My own history, and that of my children, is rooted in the mountains of Santa Cruz County. I spent much of my childhood in a little red cabin in the redwoods, with a covered porch and a sleeping platform up the hill, built by my Swedish great-grandfather. We played, ate, and slept outside, so summer felt like one long camping trip. When we took a family vacation to Sweden recently, I felt immediately at home, because red cabins dotted the landscape like tiny barns, most with outdoor sleeping areas to take full advantage of summertime.

For me, the barn-reminiscent architecture and Swedish red color of our brewery invokes camp-like coziness. This is a place to gather, to enjoy new interpretations of that most ancient and jolly beverage, and to get to know each other again and again. Our brewery is a new place, but each person who comes to it brings their own history, and by sharing those stories, we create and recreate our community.
