Extended Stay America – San Diego – Sorrento Mesa

Room cleaning done once a week. If your stay does not overlap a cleaning day, then your room is not going to be cleaned (nor will towels be refreshed).
Upon initial entry, the place and amenities are basic. There is a refrigerator and two hot plate burners for cooking, but no silverware, plates or pans. They must be initially requested from the front desk. So if you need 2 plates, 1 pan and a spoon, they will literally give you only that. I guess it saves water in only washing what is provided rather than a full set.
The once a week cleaning is an Extended Stay Policy which was explained to me by the front desk staff. I was not aware of this not was I told about it. But since it is a company policy, can’t really fault the staff.
There is something of a free breakfast in the morning. It is called a Grab & Go breakfast where coffee is made available. Fruits such as apples and oranges are available. They also provide Nutrigrain breakfast bars.
Comparing to Residence Inn Marriott across the street, Residence Inn has an actual hot breakfast consisting of eggs, sausage & pancakes. You can also sit and eat your meal there.
Should you need extra towels or happen to run out of toilet paper, all you need to do is walk to the front desk and pick some up from the front desk staff. This isn’t bad when your room is close to the front desk. Some might view this a hassle though, especially if you are located on the far end of the property.
The staff were friendly and cordial though.

The staff is awesome !!! Newt is a great manager, professional, nice and friendly. We enjoyed our stay my husband, my cat and me.

I came here for three reasons… first was location in Sorrento Valley and second was because it was listed as having an included breakfast. Third was because it was what Priceline gave me. My fault for being cheap. :)
Now if you are a tourist visiting San Diego… I highly suggest not staying in this area. This is a business area and traffic during rush hour is horrible. Specially ⁸⁰⁵⁄₅ and Mira Mesa Blvd. But I was working down the street, so it made sense. And the price was San Diego reasonable (under $ 100).
I flew in late and this was the first fail. Showing up at the hotel at 11:45pm. The front office closes at 11:00pm. There is a phone. I call and it rings a number of times. Finally a guy answers and says he will be there to open the office. While waiting (and tired)… two young ladies return to the office and when it opens, tell the front desk dude that the room he gave them, has someone asleep in it. What???
So room. Yeah… very old and tired. Nothing much nice. Just a workable motel room one would expect to see along the freeway in the middle of nowhere. No matter…
Shower… no shampoo. Wow. So I wash my hair with the bar of soap. The rest of the day my hair felt like it was covered in glue. :(
Breakfast. Laugh out loud! Just some pre-​packaged crappy muffins I would not eat and fruit. This is not breakfast. I Unilocaled and found a nice breakfast and coffee place just down the street… Naseem’s…I highly recommend you go there and skip this crappy breakfast. Now I get that if you are really an extended stay person and you intend on making your own breakfast in your room, this will not matter.
Wifi…weak.
In the end… I would not stay here again.

The customer service was amazing. They were so helpful. Room was clean. Totally would stay there again. It was so quiet there.

I rarely leave reviews on hotels because quite frankly you generally get what you pay for and I’m in the customer service industry so I know people usually work pretty hard and don’t like to give negative reviews for trivial things. I’m here for work. The rooms are about $ 150 a night and not even almost worth it. My lamp has no lampshade, there is no remote to the TV, when the people above me are smoking it comes in through the bathroom vents. The towels would be small on a toddler. The AC is set at 60 and high since yesterday and it’s sweltering in here, so it’s not working. The iron is covered in some sticky crap — luckily I tested it on a towel or my white shirt this morning would be covered in black goo. The Internet is out for about 12 hours now. The cabinets are empty and filthy. Breakfast is a pile of oranges and some oatmeal packets. There is a kitchenette in the room but You have to ask for a coffeemaker, utensils, plates, pots, pans.
Both of the stars in my review are for the people at the front desk (newt and kylie) who are super friendly and let me check in early when my flight was here earlier than expected. Extended Stay America should give them the tools (clean, stocked, maintained rooms and appliances) to use their great customer service skills for a great hotel, instead of wasting it on this sub par one. Throw some money into making this place worthy of the staff that runs it!

I travel a lot for interviews. Sometimes, I’m in a city for only 12 hours. I stayed here because it was the cheapest in the area (but still rather expensive). That’s fine, it’s San Diego.
PROS:
Coffee and instant oatmeal in the morning were good.
Wifi is free but dreadfully slow.
CONS:
I asked for a non-​smoking. It was definitely smoking and reeked of smoke so much that people I met the next day told me I smelled of smoke. There were towels neatly folded on the countertop. But on them were hair. I went to the bathroom to wash up for bed. There was stool still in the toilet.
CONCLUSION: I checked in at midnight, checked out of the hotel at 7am. I spent 7 hours at this hotel and it was absolutely disgusting and dreadful for the 7 hours I was there. Would never stay again.

Looks are deceiving for this place. We usually go with 2 bed suites… This was one of the worst. The beds are loudddd and squeaky, hard and need to be replaced fro being swap meet material. The stove in our particular suite was working off and on while on to cook and the upstairs movement can be heard clearly through the ceiling. Noisy! It was a last minute choice we made for our weekend, and i dont usually aim for super great because we just need a place to reenergize but this one doesnt even do just that. Whats sleep?

I paid $ 100/​night on Expedia. I stayed for 2 nights. I liked that it had a full fridge but many things that are typically in a hotel room you have to request from the front desk. Shampoo, a cup, coffee maker, etc. Though you are provided with a fridge, no kitchen supplies are provided unless you make arrangements ahead of time to have them in the room. Shower worked so so but the hotel could use a face lift overall. I planned to make my own bfast but was happy there was coffee in the lobby however I got to it at 7:15am and it tasted very stale and as desperate for coffee as I felt, I couldn’t drink it. Yuck. There were some red apples, granola bars and oatmeal packets but besides the fruit nothing natural or unprocessed for those health nuts like me. Overall was ok, Evelyn at the front desk was super sweet & accommodating.

Omar at the front desk was helpful. I’m deducting stars because the room is a little dated, I had to call tech support to restore my internet, and the tv signal kept going in and out. The front desk said it was due to the rain. They use dish network. The heat and air worked well and wasn’t loud on the low settings. Breakfast is grab and go: coffee, tea, oatmeal, fruit, granola bars, and muffins. I got a great rate of $ 57 per night. I would stay here again for the free parking, wifi, and breakfast. All the other hotels in the area charge for parking and wifi.

I had to stay in San Diego for 1 night, and I’m pretty happy with this place. The price was right, the room was comfortable, and the customer service was great.
This room included a queen size bed, 32″ TV, stove, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, free wifi, and most bathroom amenities.
The room and the bed were clean and comfortable.
The bathroom was very clean. They do not give you any soap, shampoo, or lotion, but they do provide a lot of towels.
They service was great. Demetrius was very polite and professional, making the check-​in process very easy.

Stayed here with my guy for a concert in San Diego. The receptionist was nice. We showed up 3 hours early for check in and they were okay with that, gave us the room key and told us about continental breakfast. Only problem that I docked points is it was freezing when I got in the room, someone left the AC on blast and the lights were so dim. There wasn’t enough sunlight coming in our room, felt really dark and gloomy haha. But overall it was a good stay, clean and I slept well.

I don’t know what you people are complaining about. I travel 2 – 3 times a month and I’m in hotels all the time. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Most of all it was QUIET! No booger eater kids running around screaming. Sorry if they didn’t have clowns making balloon cocks for your brats in the lobby. A+ place for biz travelers! Plenty of places to eat within walking distance right next door too.

The room is spacious but everything else is horrible. First off the shower doesn’t work, after a long travel trip that is major issue. Then when getting into bed found stains in the bedding. Differently will be talking to their management in the morning.

We liked this place… Was sufficient enough for our week long stay… It dint have a dishwasher but rest everything was fine and good enough for us.

Not an amazing place. For the money, you get a pretty spacious room with only the very basic needs fulfilled. If you need extra linens or towels, you have to go get those yourself, front desk will not bring them to you. Smokers might be placed underneath non-​smoking rooms, which we found to be really annoying. The plumbing was mediocre, with the bathtub constantly leaking and dripping. Pots, pans, and cutlery were provided in the room but they looked shady and I didn’t want to risk it.
This is not the best place to stay in the world, but definitely not the worst.

The fire alarm made sharp noise every 5 minutes, so I called the front desk. No one answered. I almost smashed the lobby door, but no one came out. After I banged on the door for 20 minutes, the receptionist came out finally, saying that the phone was not working, and changed a room for me. I booked a non smoking room. But he changed it to smoking room with very heavy cigarette smell. I asked him to return my money so that I can go to another hotel, but he answered I have to wait until morning and talk to the manager. $ 101 including tax. Not cheap. It’s the worst experience I have ever had staying in a hotel in my life.

This location has changed to a «Extended Stay» location.
We decided to spend the weekend hitting LEGOLAND and needed somewhere to stay that accepted pets…(New puppy and no one able to take him for 2 days). I found this location and seeing that it accepted pets, was a decent price and had a kitchen were all pluses.
Got to the location and was surprised how out of the way this location was but it was very clean and nice looking and wasn’t crowded. Checked in with no problems. Got to the room and it was great. King size bed with a fold out sofa, kitchen and bath. They had a little grassy area that had doggie bags and a trash for the dog trash.
I noticed that they didn’t have the bedding for the sofa so I went down and the employee was very nice and said he would have it all ready when I returned later in the evening. Headed back to legoland for a bit… on the way back we stopped and picked up snacks and little things to eat. Fridge worked great. Kitchen was very clean as were all the dishes and appliances.
My only problem was I like my rooms cold but for some reason the AC wasn’t cooling the room down the way I liked. I assumed maybe it was cause of everyone taking showers and running around and coming in and out to take the dog out. Come about 1am I was not comfortable, it was too hot and almost humid in the room. Around 3am i had had enough and called the office. The lady working was nice but they didn’t have another king suite available and at 3am I didn’t wanna wake everyone up and move them so I asked if it was possible for me to just move (I would pay a small fee if necessary). She was very accommodating. She came up and showed me to another room, checked the AC, made sure it was suitable and went to retrieve a key for me.
The next morning, after a great sleep, we enjoyed the «grab N go» items offered. My boys probably took too many muffins and apples :) but it was nice and specifically what was mentioned in their ad. Checking out was pleasant… The employee knew who I was and apologized for the AC and asked if every thing else was ok.
I was extremely satisfied with the location, the cleanliness, the staff and atmosphere.

It’s not bad for a night stay with the kiddos in a one bedroom suite; 2 beds, 2 baths, and in a comfortable setting!
We all had a restful night.
I got up and made breakfast for the kiddos.
Didn’t clean up, TIP, and check out!

I hate to give 1 star reviews but there really isn’t anything is positive about this place other than it is close to my girlfriends office. The poster in the lobby got me excited because it showed flatscreen tv’s and new beds. That must be the extended stay down the street.
Our first room we had to switch because the toilet clogged the 1^st time I used it and they couldnt bring a plunger or send a maintenance man (they dont have one). But I was kind of repulsed anyway as when I was sitting on the toilet, I noticed a bunch of pubic hair on the floor by the tub.
So, we switched rooms, which they did very nicely but it was rather inconvenient. But I guess its better than having a man come into your room plunging your human waste while you watch.
The new rooms bed was hard as the floor and made noise when you just laid down on it.
The coffee pot was an electrical mess that made me watch it thinking I was going to burn the room down. The lovely sugar and non-​dairy creamer that the left for us, was a bit dehydrated and clumpy.
I know we are going to have to stay here again because it really is 200 yards from her new office, I may have to miss that trip because I really dont like this place.

I’m on day four of my stay here as I write this and I’m a little surprised by all the one and two star reviews. There are some downsides but for the price, it’s unobjectionable. Here’s a quick list:
