History

Established in 2011.

Lake of the Sky Outfitters was created out of a passion for Hiking, Backpacking, and the Great Outdoors. The owner, Peter, has lived in Tahoe for over 30 years and has a wealth of experience hiking the Sierra Nevadas.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

I have lived in the Lake Tahoe Basin since 1971 and graduated from Tahoe Truckee High School in 1974. I hiked the 185 mile Tahoe to Yosemite Trail in 1975, the 220 mile Theodore Solomons Trail in 1976, hiked extensively in the Austrian, Swiss, and German Alps in 1977. Rehiked the Tahoe — Yosemite Trail in 1985, hiked the High Sierra Trail in 1987, and have hiked various sections of the John Muir and Tahoe Rim Trail over the years. I have a great deal of experience and knowledge of the trails and peaks of the greater Lake Tahoe area. Over the course of those years I have used a lot of equipment and apparel so I have a good deal of knowledge in those areas as well.

My dream has always been to own my own backpacking shop so after I was laid off in March od 2009 and I could not find work I decided, with my wife Nancy’s encouragement, to pursue opening said business. We opened our doors on May 2, 2011 and have been well received so far.
