History

Established in 1986.

The Dog from Ipanema was founded over 25 years ago by owner Jarbas Godoy of Rio, Brazil. He originally opened one of the first pet salons in South America in Salvador, Brazil in 1976. Jarbas later moved to the United States and received his Psychology Degree as well as a Masters in Counseling. During his time in school, Jarbas worked in one of the best grooming salons of the time and wished for better working conditions and better facilities for guests.

In August of 1986, Jarbas had the incredible opportunity to open his dream salon thanks to a Chow/​Lhasa mix named Scandal. It was airy, colorful, full of greenery and art on the walls and attracted people from all around the world. Over the years, The Dog From Ipanema was been featured in Vogue and has received many local and international awards. For the last 27 years, Jarbas has continued his mission to provide services for dogs and cats in a compassionate environment.

Business Owner

Owner Jarbas had a very special relation with animals since a very young age. He always believed that he could understand and be understood by all creatures. As founder of the salon, he has contributed to many changes in the dog grooming industry. Due to the success of the salon, Jarbas has developed a career as a motivational speaker for groomers across the globe. He has conducted and organized educational seminars in Europe and South America, as well as many American cities. Currently, he sees less individual clients in order to better serve all of his many clients. He looks forward to meeting you and your four-​legged friend at The Dog From Ipanema soon!
