Simple maintenance or complicated repairs, we’re here for you. Oil changes, brake job, 30−60−90k maintenance, tune-​up, transmission service or check engine light problem. We diagnose and repair electrical problems, do smog test and repairs, head gaskets, timing belt and water pump replacement, air bag suspension install and repair, repair door locks and windows, tires, engine or transmission replacements. We do everything except paint and bondo!

Available shuttle to and from BART, train, work, school, airport, home or play — (15 mile radius). Discounted rental cars available.

History

Established in 1979.

G-​F Automotive has provided automotive maintenance, repair and diagnostic services to South San Francisco and surrounding areas for over 35 years. Out of a love of cars, Mike Marsh started G-​F Automotive in October of 1979 by doing general maintenance and repairs on domestic cars. Over the following 20 years G-​F Automotive expanded to a facility twice its original size and offering services to include Japanese and European vehicles. Recently we have included fleet services.

During the past 16 years, Mike’s widow, Michele, has continued the business with her passion for customer service andhonest, quality repairs. She maintains a staff of diverse ASE certified technicians whose abilities allow G-​F Automotive to offer quality service to all vehicle owners.

G-​F Automotive is woman owned and family run. I hire ASE certified technicians with specialties in American, Japanese and European repairs. I have always had some type of involvement with automobiles by working on family members’ cars, auto shop in high school, working side by side with smog techs on repairs, and eventually marrying a car enthusiast with his own auto shop. After Mike’s passing in 2002, I chose to keep his «dream» alive by keeping the business. We have kept the same principles of offering quality service and using quality parts, at reasonable prices. I pride myself in being honest and fair and will go out of my way to have a great customer relationship. If approached about a negative situation, I am quick to alleviate it. I believe in treating each customer as part of the family, not «just» a customer. Our customer base tends to be long-​term and repeat customers who pass on referrals by word of mouth.

Brought my 2000 Camry in for valve cover gasket replacement. Bought this car salvaged with no paperwork, but the previous owner said he did work on the car that matt and michele were able to confirm that the work was not done. Not only did they fix the valve cover gasket, but they also fixed the water pump/​timing belt while charging minimally in labor as they were already working on the car. This is a professional and honest shop I will continue to take my car to in the future. Thanks matt and Michele!

I called to make sure they had availability and she said they did and that it would be finished within 20 minutes time for a smog check. Upon arriving, she tells me someone had an appointment at 4pm and that they had to service him first. So I’m here waiting and apparently it’s taking a long longer than I had expected. The staff is relatively friendly, but I’m irked that I have to wait longer than I’m supposed to. I arrived here at 4:16 and it is now 4:42…

I stumbled across G-​F Automotive when I was looking for deals to get my oil changed. After speaking with Michele and learning things about my car I never knew I was really impressed with their customer service. Michele will go out of her way to get things done right. She doesn’t skip corners and that is exactly what I am looking for from my mechanic.
Not only is their repair service exceptional, I have had some of the best customer service experiences here. This is a family owned business and the relationship I have developed with Michele surprises even me.

Michelle is great. She’s honest when giving an estimate on your car. I would recommend making an appointment and to ask how long they will have your car just so you have an idea of when to expect to pick your car up. Convenient and easy to get to as well.

I have only been here to get several cars smogged and they were great. $ 40 cash out the door and they were fast too. I went in and 20 minutes later i was out. They helped me out especially because i was in a hurry i will be going here for my future smogs

This review is for customer service only, but I was really impressed!
My brother waited to the last minute to get a smog check for my car that I am transferring over to him. Of course he did. Ugggggggh.
It was 6pm on a Thursday night and my DMV appointment was the next day at 8am. Ughhhhhh.
Michelle answers the phone and even know her shop couldn’t help me, she pointed me in the direction of another shop that could AND suggested I go to the AAA DMV window in Daly City because I was a member. I have been living under a rock because I had no idea this service existed for AAA members!
Anyway, Michelle went out of her way to listen to a sob story of a total stranger and things ended up working out much better than planned. Thank you for the amazing customer service and I look forward to going to G-​F Automotive the next time I need auto repair services!

I had different issues with my Cooper and GF Automotive was patient enough to explain everything to me AND take me to/​from work when my car was out of service. I was also impressed at Michele’s level of personal care and felt she went above and beyond the average mechanic to make sure I felt comfortable with the work being done and the cost of repairs. After I purchased 2 new tires and one blew out a few days later, Michele was able to replace it the same day at cost. And almost everytime I was there I would see her son or daughter or possibly other family members working together. I completely trust them to take care of me and my car.

Best Service and a great deal. They do a full inspection of your car when changing your oil. I wasn’t aware that I had an oil leak, and my brakes were wearing low. They suggested I plan for a brake service on my next oil change. I really appreciated the full inspection and the heads up. Now I can budget for the repair instead of being notified when my car starts squeaking. The guy at the front desk was courteous and made me comfortable while they took care of my car. They gave me a full report when they were finished. This was so much more than I ever expected from an oil change.
I’ll return for other services too.

So far, I’m impressed. I needed a smog test and my ‘regular’ mechanic is too far away. I called and got an appointment for the same day. I wasn’t surprised to pass the test, but was definitely impressed with the friendliness and general customer focus, including the follow up email. We talked about their work in general and though I haven’t used them for other work yet, I was impressed and I do plan to give them a try. Since I“m moving shortly, they will be much more convenient for me and also said they provided pick-​up service, so I’m looking forward to more good service. (I only gave 4 stars simply because I haven’t sampled anything further than a smog test so far so it didn’t seem right to rate them with a 5 with such limited contact.

I went in for an oil change and smog check. G-​F changed the oil and did a lengthy inspection of my car. They recommended some repair work. I told them I’ll have to come back later.
25 minutes later, they couldn’t complete my smog check because of some issue with the car. They offered to investigate the issue with the car manufacturer. I was supposed to come back later for the smog check.
But the whole experience left a bad taste.
The next day I went to a mechanic in San Mateo. He did the repairs, using OEM parts, for less than HALF the cost quoted by G-​F. He had no issues performing my smog test and certification.

After years of trying to troubleshoot tuning problems, I brought my 64 Pontiac 428 to GF automotive. I contacted the owner, Michelle, and agreed to do some preliminary checks myself and then talk about taking it in afterwards. Well, I did the tests, thought I found some stuff, and Rich called me a day or so later to discuss. I ended up taking it in the next day, giving Dave a list of items I wanted checked out, which was quite extensive. Rich and Joaquin immediately started diagnosing the problem and getting a feel for the car. After a couple of days, new distributor, wires, fuel pressure regulator, carb adjustment, etc, they fixed everything and my car is running nicely! The people are great, the service is awesome, the communication is excellent. This place is the new shop of choice for me. Thanks GF folks!

Price is right ($ 40 including certificate).
My breather hose had popped off the intake… I probably should have checked the night before to make sure it was attached, but the tech could have had a look 1st, attached it and then run the smog… anyways, they failed it the 1st time for that, but reran it and passed. Made a big stink about how the hose could keep popping off– dude, here’s 10 cents, gimme a hose clamp, I’ll put it on, get off my case!
As with most non-​test-​only places, they «inspect» to try to drum up repair business. Recommended new accessory belts and new timing belt. Umm, I had those replaced 6 months ago, I know they’re fine.
The gal there was nice enough, though… quoted me decent prices for belt replacement and CV half-​shaft replacement when the time comes…
So yeah, bottom line it went okay, but I probably won’t go to a non-​test-​only smog anymore and pay a little more so I don’t have to deal with the hassle of getting repairs recommended.

I just got my car smog checked here and it was a great price ($ 40 with a coupon from their website), they were really nice and they took me right away when I called! Totally painless — I was in and out of there in probably 20-​ish minutes, and they submit the smog certificate electronically to the DMV. Quick, nice, good price — can’t ask for much more!

I found this place on Craigslist last week as I was desperately in need of my Smog Test for my registration =\ whoops! Seems like I’m procrastinating outside of school too :) but G-​F made it all better. I called so many places only to hear all these prices I can’t afford $ 55-​$ 85 (+ additional fee for certificate) come on people, I just finished buying all these books for school! Thankfully G-​F was having a special «$ 40 out the door Smog Test» I felt so relieved like huge weight was lifted! I immediately called and spoke with Michele & she was very sweet. She set me up for an appt the next day at 8:30am & I was out by 9am! I love places like this, fast service, great employees, & they know what they’re doing. I got her card & definitely will be calling them for some estimates next time I need something fixed.
