Raison D’etre A Bakery

I can only guess what motivates anyone to post negative and totally false reviews. Such people need to be educated and I am here to oblige. The bakery located in South City is a wholesale bakery which, by the way, is not open to the public. (There is no walk-​in store attached to the bakery.) I have had the good fortune to tour the premises and everything about it is clean and well-​maintained. Raison D’etre takes pride in offering quality baked products and their desire to satisfy their customers is confirmed with every delicious bite!

Terrible place and product. Go elsewhere! Place is dirty and unkept. Very poor environment for a food company.

I have never been to the store but the raspberry skone I get from SFO is delicious! I have to have one every morning with my Peet’s coffee (I work at SFO). The secret is to heat it up about 20 seconds in the microwave… I look foward to this every morning.

Managed to get a hold of their blackberry almond mini cakes at Whole Foods — man, even though it’s packaged and not «fresh» from the bakery it’s still very very good. The cake is moist, the blackberry just right in terms of tartness, and the almond slices really finish off the cake just right. I froze them and have been defrosting and eating them and still tastes just as good as when I first tried them!

Sounds awful. And looks pretty awful, too, with its wide bottom, and flat, very un-​muffin like top.
But they manage, somehow, against all odds, to make theme taste divine.

I am always thinking about their pumpkin bread. It’s moist and delicate with a sweet pumpkin taste that isn’t found in other pumpkin bread I’ve tried. I definitely prefer this over heavier, sugary pumpkin bread that only has a hint of pumpkin spice.
I am also a fan of their spicy ginger cookies. They don’t go easy on the ginger so it’s the real deal. Delicious with any hot tea.
More coffee shops need to get their pastries from here!

The Hazelnut Blackberry w/​praline Topping muffin is just about the most amazing thing ever. Their muffins are delivered to us through a catering company on Friday mornings… and it’s always is heaven in my mouth. So good.

These guys make the best muffins ever… Hazelnut Blackberry is heavenly. Shame on Whole Foods for not carrying anymore… at least the ones I frequent in SOMA and Potrero Hill. Thank goodness Peet’s still does.

Berkeley Bowl used to carry their peach cinnamon roll which is totally wonderful. They don’t have it anymore and I’m hoping to find somewhere else to buy it.

I haven’t tried the muffins so I can’t say whether they are good or not but I can tell you the pecan bar is delicious, the lemon bar is super tasty and the lemon raisin scones are buttery good! I’ve gotten to know the owners and they are very nice. It’s nice to buy from people you like!

I’m literally shocked by these reviews. Everyone I know loves the pastries at Peet’s, Tully’s and Whole Foods and Raison D’etre is the company to thank for all of that tasty goodness. My fiancé can’t get enough of their strawberry scones. I’m no health fanatic, but I appreciate their healthy options too when I’m in the mood for something light. Not only are their pastries outstanding, the owners are super cool as well! I work for Steve & Kate’s Camp and the owners brought us pastries (unsolicited) on several occasions during the summer as a way of saying thank you to our staff. I bumped into the husband and wife team and their daughter last night and had a great time chatting with them over dinner. I’m happy to support this exceptional, family-​owned local business.

sheesh wuts up with all the bad reviews… anyways i can’t say too much about this place because the ONLY thing i get is their spicy ginger cookie. i love that damn cookie! i’m low-​carb but i could never resist myself a good ol’ spicy ginger cookie. =D
i dont think peet’s gets their baked goods from them because i can definitely taste the difference. well at least not the one at 16^th and geary.

Café 101 at SFSU gets their baked goods from here, and they are AWFUL. I’m giving them 2 stars because… maybe the food is better AT the place?
Carrot Muffin: I like cloves, but this has so much that my mouth is numb. I’m serious. It’s also overly-​chewy.
Bran muffin: RAISINS! So many! Also a bad texture.
Pumpkin muffin: used to be great, but now I can’t believe that they ever sell. They don’t even look appetizing, they’re obviously way too dry.
Apple muffin: goop with apple goop on top.
Scones: boring, overly dry, awful.

Actually, they have gotten GREAT at getting rid of the trans fat AND the fructose corn syrup. Their products are heart and life healthy ! Good for you guys !
