Torta Sabrosa

Hands down the best Torta I have ever had.
The bread was really fresh. Then it was toasted/​grilled to perfection so that it was extra crunchy but also soft in the middle. The meat (I played it safe with steak) was OK, but combined with the other ingredients such as white onion, avocado, cilantro, tomato, lettuce, and it was fantastic.
They have other items on the menu which I haven’t tried. It looks pretty good, based on how many locals were there on a weekday lunchtime. Very busy. There’s also a dessert bar, and I will try their fresh banana dipped in chocolate next time.
You haven’t really had a torta till you’ve had one here.

This is one of my favorite spots to eat when I want *authentic* Mexican food. The recipes are perfectly spiced and have a great balance of cold and hot, fresh and spicy, salty or sour. It’s all a wonderful party in your mouth. I also come here because the servers are all respectable boys who are all so helpful and and treat me real nice as a customer. They are always smiling and working hard and that it makes me feel good to come eat here. Yes most of the guys that work here speak English.
Some of my favorite items are: the «Mangonada» which is an slushy fruit dessert/​drink, with fresh cut mangoes, mango ice slush, shaved ice and tons of tangy «chamoy» syrup and a chamoy chile straw to chew at the end. I usually get it mild with no chili sprinkled at the end because it can get relatively spicy so for me I find that it is perfect at the end if they skip the chili sprinkle. Its quite tart and refreshing.
I’ve also had the «bionico» which is a mouth blowing fruit cocktail mixed with granola and coconut meat combined with some kind of milky cream sauce. Ive never had this and seems to be something taken right out of Mexico, but I tell you– I order a large every time and I love it cold so I refrigerate mine for a few hours before eating. I like it so much I even make my own now myself for potlucks. Very healthy, fresh and delicious.
The Carnitas plate is the absolute bomb. Enough said, if you love pork.
On weekends, order the pork «pozole»: a super amazing serving of pork and hominy soup with special fixings. Very filling and en invigorating!
My favorite however, is the pork ribs with nopales, pork spare ribs stewed in a perfectly spiced (and i mean perfect because its not too hot but not mild either) red sauce with delicious cactus. Whoever invented this is a genius as far as Mexican flavors go. Pork… cactus…red pork sauce… you cant go wrong.
The beef soup is my Mom’s favorite: lots of fresh vegetables in a clear beef broth, served with tortillas and a side of rice and fixings.
If you come here, don’t be afraid to practice your Spanish! The fact that not all the workers speak English makes this place more authentic… and for me, keeps the food and experience authentic. If necessary, review their menu in advance online and ultimately– you can ask some of the male staff to help translate and they are all so helpful, truly.
When I go into a place to eat, I try to have a sense of the culture and at least try to make an effort at appreciating the culture, sounds, traditions, language as well as the tastes. So don’t be afraid to hablar Español.

One star and that’s because I had to, this place is disgusting they obviously don’t use hair nets found two hairs in my food not just on top where you might think it could be yours but mixed in with the meat. That’s disgusting!!! first time going there and last time I go there. Service was bad as well, was super excited to try this and when I went to order the lady was being so rude took a call while I was ordering and when I was done she didn’t even give me my total but looked at me just with a rude ass look and waitin for me to pay so I had to look at the screen where my total was at.
NEVER COMING BACK TO THIS NASTY PLACE!

I’m a big fan of Mexican antojos and this place kinda disappointed me the fact that most of it was filled with just pork skin, ALSO how do you not include mangos in it! Mangos balance out the spice. But overall food looks and smells really good

Delicious and cheap! The four of us loved their platters. We had two of the Nopales, some Chicken Fajitas and another Grilled Chicken plate plus Chips and Guacamole. Everything was so tasty, fresh and authentic. You get beans and rice with a good portion of meat. They have fresh juices too. I can’t wait to go back on a weekend to try their Menudo.

The Tortas are amazing! I always judge a restaurant based off the salsa verde, they had a crazy good salsa verde ! Great great place ! Went here on the last day of our vacation

I came here for a torta and was really disappointed. But it was my fault for not reading the menu right and assuming the Cubana would have milanesa, azada. not really a fan of the shredded meat inside the Cubana.
it’s a really nice place. will probably drop by for more water and maybe desserts :)

This is a small hole in the wall eatery. The ambiance is traditional. The customer service, food and mangonada was good. The place and the foold didn’t give me the wow factor, so overall it is 4 stars.

While doing laundry a few doors down, we wanted something quick and nearby. Being indecisive, as usual, we said fvck it and popped into Torta Sabrosa since there was no line and it had been years since I’ve had a great torta.
Once in, you notice an EXTENSIVE menu and even pictures for my fellow gringos with soccer playing on TV. I scanned the menu and opted for a carnitas torta ($ 8) add sour cream and mayo (eff yo diet, breh!) and we also got the menudo (SAT & SUN ONLY). Within 10 minutes, our torta is served… And my god, this thing doesn’t play! Large enough for two grown adults to share, stacked with goodness and dripping with sour cream (or is that mayo? Whatever). The first bite was orgasmic, consistent flavor across the board until I reached the end of my half… where I found myself struggling to scarf it down.
In that moment, I instantly regretted ordering the menudo too… I was stuffed.
ANNNND here it came.
Large, hearty bowl served with all the fixings. Maybe I was full or maybe I had a different idea of what to expect, but I’d pass on the menudo in the future. The broth was kinda flat/​bland, the meat was chewy (think: beef gum) and it had minimal substance. Menudo I’ve had in the past has always been in Texas, which I found out does it differently than the west coast. If this is your thing, so be it, but I’m a hard pass; I won’t fault them for it. We took it to go and ultimately tossed it knowing we wouldn’t eat it later… MTL isn’t a fan.
All in all, this is a solid place for beautifully served and delicious tortas and fresh fruit desserts. Ill def be back.

Sometimes I don’t have the patience to wait in line at el farolito for a burrito, and I decided to give this place a chance, which didn’t have a line.
I ordered a super carne asada burrito.
Food:
Tasted home cooked and it definitely hit the spot for my burrito craving. Good quality ingredients and good balance of flavors. The refried beans in my burrito was extra tasty.
Service:
Friendly and welcoming.

Great service great food and most important fresh food… love the beef soup and tortas and if you guys will try some of the of the tostilocos they’re off the hook .I’m a frequent costumer I’m sure this is my spot for the tortas and soup

I live in South city so I’ve been coming here for years. It’s right next to a grocery store so sometimes when I order takeout I would go next-​door to buy some produce and fruit. I always order tostada de camaron as that’s my favorite. Also ordered the rice plates which is a generous portion.

The food is great! So many torta options and of course the normal taqueria items. The nachos are on point, with thick slices of avocado on the top. I fancy myself a nacho connoisseur and their nachos do the job! The staff is pretty friendly and the prices are reasonable. One time I wasn’t feeling well and grabbed some chicken soup from here… so good. Everything is made with love!

Awesome mexican rest serving a multitude of options from tortas and tacos to ice cream and smoothies. This resturaunt reminds me of a classic malt diner.
Customer service: staff very friendly and always greet you with a smile. The food was delivered fast and warm. Plenty of meter parking
Food: tortas (mexican sandwitch) are relatively good. The aourdough broad was a bit too crunchy for my tast but nonethe less the meat flavor was good.
The mexican fresh water are thirst quinching and awesome. A must try agua de orchata (rice water).
Cons: they accept visa/​mastercard but no amex.

Came here last week before heading to work. I read the reviews and thought, this place must be good.
Wrong. The cashier (only woman working there) sucked at taking orders. She barely speaks or understand basic english. Why hire someone who can’t communicate properly with customers? Just why?
I ordered pupusas, torta, mangonadas, and a side of fresa (strawberry) drink.
The 3 stars goes to the cooks who did a wonderful job.
The same lady who took my order was making our mangonadas and I came up to her to say
«Can you put less tamarindo for me please?»
Her reply was «Um no tamarindo…»
TF? I get that your english needs working on but damn this broad didn’t even try to understand what I was asking her to do.
2 stars off for the lack of communication and terrible service from the cashier.
I’m only coming back here till they replace the cashier with someone who actually understands basic english or till I learn how to speak Spanish (whatever comes first).

One word: BUENO!!! I love this place! I wish I we lived here so we could come back again and again.
Originally, I had heard of this place from my wife due to the recent Mangonada craze, and I heard that this place made the best ones. When we went in, we ordered some plates and of course the mangonadas. I can’t remember what I ordered, but it was at the suggestion of the cashier, who I must say was very cordial and polite. All the workers there were nice, for that matter. Can’t say I have a bad thing to say about the place, because it was truly as advertised. I highly recommend this place to anyone who has a sweet tooth or just a craving for some latin american food in general. Plus they have picture menus so you know exactly what you’re buying. I don’t think you can go wrong with whatever you order here.

Walking down grand avenue and happened to come across La Torta Sabrosa. I love a good torta or (sandwich). As I entered the restaurant, the first thing I check out is the overall cleanliness of the place.
The counters were all clean, the seating area is clean as well as the floors. The food counter area was also very clean. All the food was covered properly and in a clean station. They have an ice cream area like you would see at a baskin robins. With lots of desserts to choose from. Banana splits, chocolate dipped bananas and gelatos to name a few.
I ordered a carne asada torta. Served on a sweet French bread, with mayo, lettuce, tomato and carne asada. The carne asada is very good. Lots of flavor. The bread was toasted and torta was similar to a panini. The bread had a real nice crunch to it. Not hard were you can cut up the roof of your mouth, but a crunch yet easy to bite and tear apart. A hot sandwich is the best sandwich! Swiss cheese also was nicely melted all over the carne asada.
The torta had excellent harmony of flavors. Wonderful spices from the carne asada, cooled down by the melted Swiss cheese and thin sliced tomato. Washed it down with a refreshing ice cold Horchata! Mmm! A great lunch

Wow — this place rocks! I have been here several times and every single time I come here the food is excellent.
What I like so much about Torta Sabrosa is that all of their dishes taste very authentic. I have ordered their Pupusas here several times which is a traditional Salvadoran dish made of a thick, handmade corn tortilla (made using masa de maíz, a maize flour dough used in Latin American cuisine). Their Carne Asada with their home made pinto beans which by the way is out of this world because it taste so fresh which also comes with flour tortillas — delicious.
For drinks, I recommend ordering their Vampiro which they freshly squeeze for you with carrots, orange, bananas, pineapple and beets. Their Horchata is also really good and they make it fresh daily which is a drink made from ground almonds, sesame seeds, rice, barley, or with tiger nuts. They do serve Menudo only during the weekend but it is worth it. I highly recommend you come here and give Torta Sabrosa a try. They are very busy for lunch but you will be guaranteed to get an excellent homemade meal.
PS — this is a family owned establishment and everyone that works here are always so nice.
