Tucked away inside a shopping center, I would have never ever known about the existence of this Souvlaki spot without the help of my fellow Unilocalers & local Southfield Business man friend who suggested the lunch. I had the chicken lemon rice soup — perfect ratio of rice to soup broth and lemon flavor — no one item was too over powering of the other but a perfect compliment. The pita was stellar !! super hot and fresh. I ordered essentially a deconstructed chicken gyro — it was awesome !

This is my go-to Greek Restaurant for carryout! They make most things in house — so when you get a gyro, it will be fresh shavings on freshly made thick pita. Delicious! Also, the owner is always there and a very nice guy.

This place is fantastic! I’m so glad I saw it on Unilocal and decided to try it out. My boyfriend got a gyro and I got a Greek salad; we shared a spinach pie. Everything was delicious! The small Greek is definitely enough for one person, FYI, especially if you add chicken or gyro meat to it. The pita bread is AMAZING. Make sure you get a side of it if you get something that doesn’t come with pita! Also, our waitress was very kind. This place is kind of buried in a strip mall but it’s definitely worth it once you get there!

This spot is a prime example of, «if you cook it well, they will come.» As others have mentioned due to its indoor strip mall locale, many never know this spot. Lesser restaurants would have failed. They have their Gyros and salad niche and do it well. Ive always been impressed with their seemingly loyal lunch crowd as it’s always busy during those times. I live nearby so its a neighborhood spot for me. While I dont eat here as often, I highly recommend it for Gyros, salad and other Greek diner dishes. Staff always solid in my experiences. The two things you often hear is the unique homemade pita bread and the yummy gilled chicken. The homemade yogurt served with the gyros is a different touch too. No tzatziki. I like to add a sprinkle of chopped parsley to my carryout gyros.

While traveling through the area on business I found the excellent reviews and decided to give this place a try… just wow! Worth the 4 hour drive to get here just for dinner. The food was amazing. Fresh and obviously homemade. Everything was excellent but we really loved the peas!!! Must go!

Athens Souvlaki is a small, low key diner tucked inside a relatively sleepy/rundown strip mall. It’s nothing fancy, and it’s hard to find if you’re looking for signage, but the food is delicious! I didn’t go too wild. I stuck with a simple Greek salad and the chicken gyro. My lunch partner ordered the same thing and we both cleaned our plates. The salad dressing in particular was fantastic. The gyro was awesome. The pita is fluffy, lightly fried, and has just the right amount of chew. They make it in house and you can tell. Very fresh. The chicken wasn’t dry and had great flavor. The tzatziki sauce they put on it is also fantastic. I could eat that ‘ish by the bucket full for sure. We ate in but judging by the long take out line as we were on our way out I’d guess it’s a pretty solid option for take out too.

I like to fancy myself a connoisseur of chicken Greek salads, hands down the best! The chicken is delicious and so is the dressing; don’t get me started on how addicting the pita bread can be. I also dare say that they have my favorite lemon rice soup, perfect balance of lemon and rice. It’s a frequent stop for a work week lunch. The location may be alarming, but the food is good(which is evidenced by how busy they get Mon-Fri).

I have tried many restaurants at Greek town and around metro Detroit area. Athens Soulvaki is one of the best Greek food I ever had. I used to visit this place a lot when I used to work out of Southfield. The pita bread is fresh fresh fresh fresh. No body can be disappointed. My favorite here is THE Gyro platter.

Looks like a Greek Diner with decorated Ancient Greek walls. Lemon Rice soup was terrific with just the right balance of sour. The Gyro Combo was every bit as good as claimed by other Unilocalers, with a pita that was fresh, chewy and crispy together. The rice pilaf looked more like well-cooked white rice but the red sauce over top was really complementary. This place is buried inside a strip mall with no real signage, but DEFINITELY check it out if in the mood for Greek!

This place is awesome, the bar tender is extremely friendly, the owner is very relaxed and generous, and the food was spectacular. The bread/pita was totally different, very moist, flavorful and delicious. Highly recommended

Watch them cook your lunch and you know it’s fresh and not microwaved. Simple café setting but nice menu, friendly staff and really great food. Prices and portions are reasonable.

The food here was great and the family working there was wonderful. The service was amazing, though they seemed to be very busy with takeout orders. I was also impressed by the quantity and the price for the different foods – awesome value. I went the traditional route with a gyro platter. The salad and dressing that came with it were VERY tasty. Even included beets! If you are looking for a casual experience with high quality service and food, this is your place!

I don’t often order Gyros simply because you can’t get the caliber of sandwich like that available in Chicago where I used to live. HOWEVER, I recently discovered Athens Souvlaki and the gyro are amazing. Unbelievable, really. So good it’s crazy! The pitas are made from scratch and are simply deelish — the are moist and easy to chew unlike the dry, tough ones from your typical Coney place that you fear losing a tooth trying to gnaw through. They load up the meat and it’s just amazing. I spied an order of tuna salad and it looked great, all white albacore. I will be one of their new regulars! I can’t wait to go back and try their other items.

The best Greek Chicken Salad I have ever had. Seriously. This salad is perfect. The chicken is so well seasoned that you barely even need the dressing, which is also delicious. They pair it with the best homemade pita bread I have ever had.

best pita and gyro I ever had. hands down. I don’t normally get a gyro, but after reading the reviews I figured I would give it a go I ate here only because of Unilocal.I love you Unilocal, leading me through the doorways of amazing establishments like this, that I would have never tried. it was a bit hard to find even with my iPhone GPS map. Hint: It’s inside the mall. the place has character the gyro meat was tender, juicy, light and bursting with flavor. amazing sauce. creamy, very subtle. perfect great tomatos and onions. fresh. the pita made fresh. I could see them being grilled. nice crunch, but inside all warm and soft. best pita I ever had perfect fries on the side can’t wait to go back and get the braised lamb and pasticcio. I’m not dissing places like Leo’s and national but I am grateful to Unilocal for spreading the word about places like this. I think it’s so important to make the effort to go and support businesses like this where somebody has obviously put their heart and soul into the food, and it shows. life is too short to eat crappy chain restaurant food, and places like this are important and need to be preserved and supported

Sadly, I can only write a review on their gyros with chili fries. I’ve been going here for over 10 years and that is the only thing I’ve ever ordered. Let me explain. The pita is homemade. They take the dough and run it through a machine to flatten it. Then they put it on the griddle to cook and brown it on both sides. Then, the gyro meat is sliced off the rotating thing. This is the real deal and I’m salivating just writing about it. The sandwich comes with the tzatziki sauce(I’m assuming it’s made in-house), onions, and tomatoes… barely held together with a toothpick. Chili Fries are made with nice sized square french fries and topped with a meat only coney chili. Enough flavor to keep it interesting, but not overwhelming. There’s also a lot of other Greek specialties on the menu, but I’ve never made it past the gyros and chili fries. Their location is in a kind of weird indoor strip mall that’s half empty, but don’t let that bother you. This is hands down the best American-style gyro sandwich I’ve had ever. Even compared to the multiple greek restaurants in Chicago that claim to have been ground zero for U.S. gyros. So, that explains why I only have the gyros and chili fries. Don’t pass up a solid winner!

I’ve only had their takeout so far. It’s a really nice but small hole-in-the-wall greek restaurant. You feel well taken care of as soon as you get in. I tried their greek salad with chicken. The grilled chicken was amazing! The salad and the dressing went perfectly well with the dish. The pita bread really is top notch and among the best pita bread I’ve had. I’d liked more beans in the salad and what’s up with having one slice of red beet in the salad? I don’t think of red beets when I think of greek food :-) I can’t wait until I can go here next time and try something different from their menu.
