LuGia’s Ice Cream

It’s really not worth it to me. The ice cream is good and there’s a lot of variety, but I am not willing to struggle with the horde I have been faced with upon every visit. I have local stands right around the corner from me that have the same quality, but not the throngs of people. The drive out plus the wait make a trip to Lugia’s three times as long as other stands.

I had their ice cream via the truck, and it has always been great. The staff is great and very quickly get the order ready. All the flavors I have tried have been great. I don’t know if I would travel all the way out to their spencerport location, but I would definitely choose it if the truck is around!

I’m not a big ice cream person to begin with but when I do I guess I’m a custard kind of gal. But I was craving something different and got the cookie dough hard ice cream. I got the baby size which is rather large. I won’t get anything bigger here because they give wayyyy to much icecream. Yes, I’m complaining that they give you too much lol baby size is perfect for me and I always have extra left over that I put in the freezer. They have a very large selection of icecream, a smaller selection of custard and sherbert. They also have milkshakes. I don’t think there ice cream is anything special and that people hype this place up way too much. I prefer Abbotts and Friendly’s. I only go here when the people im with choose it.
My biggest gripe with the place is that I can’t sit outside and eat my ice cream because there are mosquitoes everywhere! It’s very frustrating and annoying. They need to do something about it or I need to wear bug spray when I go, you get eaten alive!

A huge number of flavor choices, amazingly good prices considering today’s economy, and generous portions? That’s what I’m talking about! Honestly it’s no surprise to me why LuGia’s is so popular — they literally seem to have something for everyone!
I visited here one Sunday evening a couple of weeks ago and it was PACKED. There must’ve been 6 or 7 lines each with something like 20 people waiting in them, but thankfully my line flew by in no time at all. They have what seems to be a legion of people working in the building itself, and they’re there to get you through quick so you can start munching down on your ice cream right away! I went with 8 or so friends and it was probably only a minute or two before everyone was hanging out in the back, each one of us with what we had ordered.
And from what I tasted, it was all pretty good too! I suspect for such a huge business there’s oils and syrups and not so many homemade natural products to make all of the ice creams they offer, but having been put face to face with that for most of my life, I honestly don’t mind so much given an operation as large as this. The flavors were mostly bang on with what they advertised (although the French roast coffee tasted more like bottled caramel syrup), and overall were a pleasure for me and all of my friends. I do wish things were a little fresher and natural, but I guess you can’t win them all!
In any case, if you’re in Spencerport with a sweet tooth, LuGia’s will treat you just fine!

Fantastic! It’s obvious from the crowd outside that this is a local fav for ice cream. Many uniques favors. Picnic tables outside for seating. Highly recommend if in the area. One of my new fav places.

I love Ice Cream, especially in the summertime. A friend in the area recommend this place.
Location: nice area off a main road, small parking lot so make sure you go when there’s not a crowd. There’s a place where you can sit and enjoy your ice cream outside. This place only takes cash so make sure you have enough.
Food: I had fools gold ice cream, it was good but not home made. I was disappointed about that. the menu was large and the portions are also, but not as good because it’s Perry’s ice cream.
People: everyone was nice and friendly– not much to say because you’re at the window placing your order.
overall, will i go again? maybe, if i’m in the neighbor hood and i want some ice cream but i would not make a special trip out there.

I have been wanting to try out LuGia’s ever since my husband mentioned them, like 3 years ago when we first met. (We lived on the East side for years and then moved to NC… But finally, FINALLY I got to go today because we are up visiting family!)
I came around 2pm. There was not much of a line because I have heard that it gets crazy busy here at night. Sometimes even wrapping around the building. Despite being a short line, there was still a bit of a wait. No big deal because I wasn’t in any hurry.
I went with the Peanut Butter S’Mores (my sister-in-law’s highly recommended suggestion) and it was AMAZING! I got the «kiddie”-size and it was huge! I actually got a stomach ache from eating too much. Next time I will get the «baby”-size. I liked the little cone holder which will catch drips so your hands don’t get all sticky.
There are just sooooooo many flavors to choose from. Hard to decide which to try. If you get a kiddie or bigger you can try 2 flavors. Baby-​size is one scoop and thus, only one flavor.
Cost-​wise, the kiddie was $ 3.75. Not too bad. (But then you think about how you could go to Wegman’s a buy a container of Perry’s ice cream for about the same cost as 2 scoops…)
Like other Unilocalers said, the parking is pretty limited. They do have a small area to enjoy your treat.
Will definitely be back this week before heading home to NC.

Love LuGia’s! They have Perry’s ice cream and pretty much every flavor they have. They have chocolate/​vanilla and black raspberry soft custards and they are amazing as well. They offer numerous sprinkles, nuts and cherry/​chocolate dip topping. I LOVE that they dip hard ice cream as most places don’t.
When you get there pick a line — it may look there’s a ton of people there (because there is) but lines move reasonably quickly and you need the time to pick a flavor. The baby cone is one large scoop and can easily be enough for 1. The kiddie is 2 large scoops and sizes above that you are pretty much eating a meal or sharing by necessity. The sizes are huge!
Highly recommend stopping by for some wonderful ice cream but BRING Cash — they don’t take Credit.

«Kiddie» are normal sized cones, FYI. Feeling up for a legendary challenge, I ordered a Large Panda Paw! Yummy, but the aftermath was messy. Definitely worth the experience.

They have the most incredible menu of Ice creams (hard and soft), ices. I have to try the food area. I
think only opens on weekends, not sure.
There are several sizes in cones or cups. I’m happy with the kiddie size which has two generous scoops of ice cream. That way I can indulge and not feel completely guilty.
This last time I tried the combo of Black Cherry and Chocolate Almond. I can still taste it in my mouth.
Need to try other flavors.

Like Dr. Evil, I took Luge lessons as a child, and that makes me uniquely qualified to say LuGia’s is one of the best-​tasting custards you’ll ever put in your mouth. Even better than your best-​tasting ex boyfriend’s custard. It’s the kind of custard anyone would swallow, even if you’re not into boys at all. Then again I’m not into boys, but I love swallowing custard. Go figure.
What to get: Vanilla Custard.
What else: I like cats.
Also: It’s not really open til 10.30 every night. Only on weekends. Other nights it’s 9.30pm close.
If it were full of people who mis-​hear rumours like Chinese Whispers, then it’d be LooseEars. They say Loose Lips Sink Ships, so what do Loose Ears do? They cause people to end up in Police Custardy.
Rochester is blessed with some fantastic custard spots (far better than its rival Buffalo-​716 area), with the best national Custard chain (Rita’s) in Henrietta, and the best local chain of custard shops (Abbott’s) in the whole world. 585 is so freaking awesome for custard, even more than a bunch of Frat Boys at a ranch with neon red lights in the Nevada Desert. And LuGia’s is right up there with the best of them, making some of the thickest, most luscious Vanilla Custard you’re ever likely to gulp down, girls. And boys.
If all the people using the restroom were applauding loudly, then it’d be LooCheers. But it’s not. I mean, depending on what’s happening in the loo, but it’s usually not.
I stopped here one night as the final port of call on my second 585 food tour of summer 2015. I was already stuffed full of every kind of custard you can imagine (minds out of the gutter) and yet LuGia’s made a real impression. It’s the pride of Spencerport. Unlike male custard, it’s not salty at all. It’s creamy, sweet and delicious.
If it were full of people exposing themselves for attention (like I often do), it’d be LookHere’s.
I was shocked by how busy it was. I had to park all the way in the back on the grass, as most people did. There were hundreds of people here, including lots of hot girls, boys dressed for the Prom (and ready to make their own custard), plus old people, and crazy maniacal tattooed muscle guys that were looking for a fight. How Spencerport of them. I even saw a girl wearing a Neymar shirt, which pleases me. When white suburban America can name Neymar more easily than naming who the Bills selected in the draft, my mission here is complete.
If it were full of underdressed hotties, it’d be HooChias. Oh wait, it is.
The girl at LuGia’s told me to skip the Lemon Ice and get the custard. She was a teenager, so I took her advice. I’d never say no to a teenage girl, ever. Oh wait, that came out wrong. That’s what he said. After he made some custard. OK this is getting weird. Then again when do my reviews not.
If you come here with your friend and make them buy you custard, then it’s MooChias. And it’ll only set you back $ 3 for a large baby size.
So come to Rochester, try Abbott’s, try Rita’s, and make sure you try LuGia’s too. Three of the best custards you’ll ever swallow. Don’t get it all over your face, as napkins cost money, and you wouldn’t want all of that money shot. Shot, as in wasted.
And of course if it were called LaBia’s then it would be perfectly named considering you come here to open your lips wide and get filled with custard.

The best ice cream stand in Rochester! Creamy, soft custard over 50 flavors! Huge servings!

Yes, they give you huge portions. But, it’s just plain old Perry’s ice cream. Go to Tops or Wegmans and buy your own. Save yourself from waiting in line with a mob of people.
Their lines are crazy long and there isn’t anything special about the ice cream. Also, you’ll have to wash your shoes from stepping in mountains of melted ice cream and dropped sprinkles.

Better than Abbott’s. An amazing variety of the best flavors, decent prices, and HUGE portions. And sorry but ice cream is better than frozen yogurt (in my humble opinion). Favorites for me are Oregon Blackberry Cheesecake when I’m feeling fruity, and Bittersweet Synphony when I’m feeling… synful.
As you may have heard, their sizing needs a bit of Westside translation. «Baby» is the small, which is an ample size for many. «Kiddie» is ideal for those that want to indulge but don’t want to consume an entire days worth of calories in one sitting. Small is basically a large. Something like 3 giant scoops. «Medium» and «Large»…umm… It’s always funny when you see those Leaning Tower of Pisa cones leave the window and you wonder: first-​timers, or just really hungry?
There’s a reason why you almost always see 3 or 4 lines snaking to the street– a legitimate throng. Even on rainy nights. This is just the ice cream place to be. Love their waffle cones. They also have the smaller sugar cones, and of course the good old-​fashioned beige cardboard.
Pro-tip…ice cream can make you thirsty, especially when consuming it in quantity, so pop over to their outdoor water fountain. Plus they have a nice shady area with benches and tables to catch up with the multiple people you know on any given night. Just watch out for the mosquitoes… they’ve got a sweet tooth.

When it comes to sweets, I don’t leave a crumb behind or a clean spoon. I couldn’t do that at LuGia’s because their servings are enormous! Their sizes are double what you ask for. As painful as it was, I had to toss half of it out because I was stuffed. My eyes almost popped out of my head when I saw two girls walking away with a leaning tower of ice cream piled on an apparently sturdy, made-for-LuGia’s ice cream cone.
There seems to be a loyal crowd regardless of the day and weather. The clouds were threatening, but we waited until it was our turn at the window. It gave me some time to check out their wall of flavors while we waited.
I ordered the Caribbean coconut which was soft vanilla ice cream with coconut shavings. The coconut added the right amount of sweetness without overkill. The bf ordered coconut almond fudge with chocolate sprinkles. It was hard coconut ice cream with lots of chunks of fudge. It was too sweet for me and I didn’t catch any almond flavor or nuts in the few bites that I tasted.
Overall, a 4.5 out of 5! The only improvement I would like to see is a description of the flavors. I think it would help shorten the wait time so that the indecisive (ahem) already know what to order without asking for descriptions at the window. Also, a few more benches would be nice around the fish fountain. I’m looking forward to going back for more flavors. Next time, baby cone please! Ice cream this good cannot be wasted!

Wonderful homemade ice cream served in monstrous, monumental, laughable portions. I think the portions here are legendary and make it a must-​visit. To think that it’s no big deal to pile an entire pint of ice cream onto a single cone is hilarious. You have to see it yourself.
My husband got the peanut butter s’mores and I opted for the maple walnut. Both were absolutely delicious — smooth in texture, not too hard, very creamy — and reminded me of Seneca Farms ice cream on Keuka Lake (another place you must check out!). LuGia’s is definitely a family-​friendly destination in the summertime and packed with kids, teenagers, grandparents and parents alike enjoying the refreshment of ice cream on summer nights. The baby cone will be enough for most people. The kid cone maybe for teens with hungry eyes. But unless you’re sharing, don’t order anything larger. A Spencerport/​Gates tradition you can’t miss out on!

I honestly don’t know what I can say that hasn’t been said before. Lugia’s isn’t just another Abbots, friendly’s, or some other ice cream place. It has become a staple of the area it’s located in, people come from all over just to fill their faces with delicious treats.
The menu is enormous, larger than any I’ve ever seen anywhere else. The amount and diversity of them all boggles my mind. The fact that you can mix two flavors (as long as you have kiddie or larger) is just insane.
The service is great and they’ll usually take the time to tell you what’s in each oddly named icecream, the line moves quick, and everything is really reasonably priced. The ice cream itself is honestly the best around, it’s popular for a reason.
If you haven’t been here yet… brace yourself, summer is coming.

LuGia’s is one of my favorite places, ever. I go here weekly over summer. Their sizes are heavenly. I typically get a 2 – 3 scoop. I think it is WAY better than Abbotts, and any other ice cream shop. I love that they let you mix and match flavors. My favorite is peanut butter smores and cannoli ice cream in a chocolate dipped rainbow sprinkle waffle cone. It is TO DIE FOR. I often stop here on my way to graduate night class just because I cannot resist the urge! They have picnic tables set up outside for customers, as well as indoor seating. It gets a bit buggy at night, so wear pants and a sweater! I am anxiously waiting for summer to get my LuGia’s fix — you MUST try this place.
