I find it very interesting how I am treated with respect at this Springfield, MA location vs the Chicopee and South Hadley. I appreciate all employees at the St. James Ave store. Thank you for always treating me and my family like people not aliens.

Hit or miss Big-Y. It’s unfortunate that the quality and service of a grocery store depends on the neighborhood it’s in. The Big-Y in Wilbraham, for example, seems cleaner, brighter, better organized and has more specialized groceries. Some of the staff seems poorly-trained in customer service(unhelpful attitude, customers feeling«ignored»). However, my experience hasn’t been all bad; sometimes the cashiers crack a little smile or a joke. During their big sales on meat and fish, it’s best to go as early possible. There’s been several times where thing I’ve wanted to pick up on sale(at an extremely low price), are gone only a couple of days into the ad. You can, however, get rain checks for these items, but they do expire. I do most of my everyday grocery shopping here: it’s close by and has most of what I need at an OK price. I hope to see a remodel in the near future, and maybe a revamping of their shelves to suit a change in the way people eat, cook, and shop for their ingredients.

If you can get past the panhandling puerto ricans in the parking lot and to the front door than its a great place to buy an EBT card from outside… it’s like triple coupon day!
