Valor Mold Removal

After reading many things online about mold removal companies I was more than a little worried about trying to find a straight shooter to help me out with my mold problem.
Given the good reviews here on Unilocal,I called the number on the website and left my information with the answering service. Within a few hours Lois called me to find out the details of my issue. Setting up an appointment for an estimate was quite easy and David was very good about communicating with me about the appointment.
Once at my house David very quickly determined that the black that I unearthed under some damp linoleum was actually adhesive not black mold. He referred me to some mold testing services if I wanted to be sure of his assessment, but based on his experience, I didn’t have a mold problem. He also said that he doesn’t do mold testing because of the conflict of interest inherent in a mold remediation company telling you you have mold that needs to be removed.
I felt a little bad that he had had to drive all the way from Springfield into upper NW DC only to get no work out of the appointment. But he was very pleasant and said it was the nature of the business.
Based on his description of how he does his remediation work and his honesty, I would not hesitate to use Valor if I do find myself in need of his services.

I have never written a review before, but felt compelled to share my positive experience with Valor –not the cheapest mold remediation company I found, but certainly the most well-​informed and professional.
The doctor treating my mold-​related health issues told me what to look for in a contractor. Valor met all the criteria — from setting up containment to the «HEPA sandwich» or «immaculate clean» regimen. The owner (David) actually asked if I’d been tested for Lyme disease because of the relation between mold reaction and Lyme. Incredible, since the medical community itself is only just now documenting that relationship. (Even my doctor was impressed by this). In fact, post-​Lyme mold syndrome was exactly
my issue!
Valor quickly scheduled an appointment, spotted the mold hot spots, provided multiple remediation options/​price points, and even offered financing. David patiently answered my many questions and really helped educate me. I respect that Valor provides full protective gear for their staff, carries all the right kinds of insurance, engages in extensive continuing education in their field, and that they’re mold-​specific — it’s not just a sideline.
Valor handles contract documents and credit card payments electronically. Scheduling was easy. Their staff — Joey and Christen — texted arrival times and lunch breaks daily. Both were. courteous and congenial. They photo-​documented work daily so I knew exactly what they were doing and why. They went right to work, no messing around. All contaminated trash (sheet rock, carpets, etc.) was bagged and immediately removed from premises. The cleaning was truly immaculate — every open beam in the basement utility room was cleaned, every cable and wire, every corner, every crevice. I could immediately tell the difference in my breathing when I walked down into the basement.
Downside? — annoying questions from the answering service used by the office (but the email correspondence was great, and both David and Joey were directly accessible by cell phones).
Bottom line? – If you’re looking for a cheap, quick, mold fix, Valor is not for you. However, if you are dealing with serious mold-​related health issues, Valor is your go-​to company. They know what they’re doing and how to do it. I highly recommend them.

I can state without exaggeration, that hiring Valor was one of the most important decisions I’ve ever made vis a vis hiring a professional services company. Why? It turns out that my basement has been infested with mold, and the reason I’ve been having increasingly inexplicable and difficult to treat health issues over the past several years. We are forever grateful to Valor for its honesty, professionalism, heart (yes, businesses can have heart), and above all, a respect for the highest standards it brought to our mold remediation. It scares me to think how close we were to engaging a crackpot service, spending tons of money, and ultimately, not remediating the mold. I will not bother to delineate the ways in which that company was dishonest and unethical, but enough to say that Valor was the mirror image. The confidence and appreciation for the company started with Lois – who epitomizes polish and meticulous customer service as the administrative head and first point of contact for the company – and David, the public face and anchoring force of Valor. He exudes honesty, calm, a deep knowledge of his profession, and decency. In our case, he was adamant that we needed top-​notch pre and post testing from a 3d party tester specialized in dealing with complex health issues as had occurred with us. You’ve got to love a mold remediation company that insists on subjecting itself to high grade testing! The work and its methodology was of the highest standards and we are completely mold free. Hurrah! I will also add that the team that worked here at the house (Donnie, Joey and Kristyn) were equally professional and delightful to deal with. I cannot recommend Valor highly enough. They are in a class of their own. Final word (or warning) to all of you considering a mold remediation expert: this is absolutely not something you want to scrimp on and go with the lowest priced provider. There is a reason that Valor is more expensive than most of their competitors. You’re paying for the Gold standard.

We had no idea about the mold world… there are some SERIOUS scammers who prey on your fears of toxic mold and will take you for every cent they can get their hands on. It’s a gross underbelly world. But David and Lois are an amazing exception and i am so thankful that i found them. They saved me at least $ 5k. Eternally grateful. They are just plain and simple good, honest people who are good at their job. Can’t recommend them any more.

I contacted Valor based off the previous excellent Unilocal reviews. We had a small patch of mold on our hallway ceiling so I felt it would be best to have a professional check it out. It’s a family run business and Lois was extremely helpful and pleasant on the phone and worked with me to schedule a good time for David to visit. The only time I had available was Friday after work and Lois said it’s no problem so David showed on time at 6:30pm. He quickly assessed that the mold was not a major issue and didn’t charge a cent for the evaluation even though I offered to pay him for his time. He even provided advice for quality HVAC air filters that I’ve since gone out and purchased.
Please use Valor, trustworthy and customer service focused!

After gathering several estimates for mold remediation in my house, I decided on Valor. They were endearing from the beginning and I got a very no BS feel from David (the owner). He was knowledgeable and walked me through lots of information regarding mold and things to look out for before, during and after the remediation. His crew was courteous, friendly and knowledgable as well.
They were more expensive than the other estimates that I received but I like the fact that the remediation REALLY has to creep in scope (completely new rooms, floors) before they charge you additionally for the remediation. The series of actions that they laid out from the beginning was exactly what took place.

Even though they knew they personally could not help me in my current situation, the owner’s mother took me under her wing and helped us get the help our family needed to get out of a very dangerous situation! They are so very knowledgeable and if they can’t help you, they’ll put you in touch with someone who is more than qualified to handle your situation! This is a company you can TRUST! They are NOT just about a dollar!

I found Valor Cleaning on Unilocal,and decided to contact them based on the good reviews they have. I called and left a message with their answering service on Sept 8^th, and just missed Lois’ call the next morning. I spoke to her later that day, and I scheduled an appointment for Fri between 10a-​12p. They were flexible on the times, but since I work from home this was convenient for me. Lois then sent me a confirmation email about the appointment time, and a reminder email on Thursday. She also sent me a helpful pamphlet written by David, «Should I test for mold».
David came out on Friday, calling 30m prior to confirm. He took a look at the damage with a water detecting machine (the same used by firefighters I think to detect hot spots though he was detecting cold)… and we could see a lot of cold behind a good bit of the wall. When we opened up the box on the wall (apparently with a water regulator valve) the insulation inside was damp… so we were pretty sure that was the cause of the leak, and the subsequent mold. David took several pictures, went over the process in detail and gave me a verbal estimate.
I received my written estimate the following Friday. On the following Tuesday Lois asked if I had any questions. Unfortunately I was away on business, and didn’t get back until 2 days later. I confirmed the start order on Friday, Sep 26.
Everything was done online… from signing the contract to paying via paypal (in 3 separate installments throughout the process). It couldn’t have been easier. Unfortunately, it was so easy that I didn’t read the document completely. The remediation cost did not include the rebuild cost. More on this later.
Lois sent me a reminder email on Fri, Oct 3^rd and David came out on Sat, Oct 4^th… calling again 30m prior to arriving for confirmation. His team setup a containment area and began work. They left a few hours later with David calling to reiterate the process and explain why they left, no more work could be done at that time. A pipe (the source of the mold) was still leaking and the wood framing was wet. I had to schedule a plumber and get him to repair the leaking valve that regulates all water into my home. Once this was completed, we gave it a few days to dry out. David’s team returned on Mon, Oct 13^th.
Lois again sent a reminder email the day before, and David called 30m prior. Unfortunately it was still wet, so we had to give it another week to dry out. They returned on Tue, Oct 21^st to finish the remediation. Again, Lois sent a reminder email and David called 30m prior to arrival. Even though Valor came out several times trying to complete the project, their price did not change.
The remediation was completed and I was then faced with a decision to use Valor for the rebuild or seek out another company. They were not pushy in anyway and were perfectly ok with me going with another rebuild company that was right for me. I was a little surprised at the rebuild estimation that Valor gave me but a good friend confirmed that it was a fair price. Valor will be out soon to rebuild the drywall and baseboards removed (disposed of due to the mold).
The bottom line is that this family owned and operated business is honest, hard working and very professional. It was a joy working with them and I will definitely be recommending them to any of my friends who have a mold problem in the future.

We were in a bind with some water damage that had caused mold leakage. I was worried that a mold remediation firm would come over and try to give me the up sell. Dave at Valor is not like that. He was honest, his crew did a great job and very responsive. He was straight forward but never tried to give me the up sell, he took care of my house like it was his home. Valor is an honest business and I’d recommend them to anybody.

David at Valor was extremely helpful when I was quite lost on the whole process of mold testing and remediation as a new home owner. He’s not out to rip you off. He gave great advice as to what to look for when you suspect there is mold, and solid recommendations for testers that could be trusted. I didn’t end up needing remediation but I would have worked with him 100% if I needed to. Its worth giving him at Valor a call if you are looking for treatment!

We called Valor Cleaning to get some mold checked out in our home. David went above and beyond to help us understand the problem and the options available to us. He suggested the most effective solutions as opposed to those that would have been more profitable to the company. He also referred us to other companies that could help us take care of other issues related to the mold problem. Overall it was a great experience and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again.

I have been having a small mold issue at the ceiling line in 2 of my bedrooms. The company was prompt to return my call, offered a free estimate of any work, came out on a Saturday to do the inspection, and ultimately provided some recommendations for me to reduce the humidity in those rooms and how to clean the area myself. I loved the conservative approach to my problem, and was told they could recommend a professional painting service with mold resistant paint and that I should add more insulation to the affected area if my initial efforts did not remedy the problem.
Both the woman I spoke with on the phone to schedule the appointment and the inspector that came to my home, were especially courteous and helpful. David, the inspector, even followed up the appointment with an email with current dehumidifier recommendations. Great company.
