Ackerman Toyota

Ackerman Toyota in St. Louis has been exemplary in accommodating my needs this afternoon. I called them at 3:00 on a busy Friday afternoon and Rich and Dennis, in Service, welcomed me into their Department. I was forty miles away and called the Weiss Service (on Tesson Ferry Road) whose receptionist told me the Service Department Associates were busy and would call me back. I started for the Jefferson Barracks Bridge over the Mississippi River, and 30 minutes later, the Weiss Associates did not call. So, I went to Ackerman. Delighted with the reception I received there, I can only describe the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff. Thank you, Ackerman Toyota of St. Louis!

Awesome service. Instead of $ 50 for hub cap elsewhere, they gave me one for $ 21.60.
Same half hour, my car stopped running: battery stauled. It is quick service. They sent it in to the shop. asap. Now awaiting finish.

We purchased a used vehicle from Ackerman and were pleased with the process from negotiating the deal through financing. We drove the vehicle over the weekend and found an issue with some body work that had most likely been repaired by the prior owner. We were unaware of the issue when we made our purchase. The following week we spoke with the sales manager, Steve, and he was very helpful and agreed to make the repairs. It exceeded my expectations because we’ve had to fight these types of issues with other dealers in the past. I’ll be back to purchase my next car. Thank you.

I went into this shop to fix the recalls on my car. They said they fixed one, but that I would need to get a new battery for them to fix the other one, or «my whole computer could be wiped out». They tried to get me to buy a $ 170 battery. When I said I could go get a battery and install it and bring it back, the guy said the shop would be really busy and he didn’t know if he would be able to get me back in that day. So, I called another Toyota service shop and confirmed with them that I did not need a new battery to fix the recall. The new shop seemed actually shocked that someone would suggest that I did. When I picked up my car from Ackerman, all the radio stations and my clock were messed up, so I guess they had pulled my battery for funzies, because it wasn’t necessary to do that for either recall. This means that if anything is wrong with my car, I now have to wait for a while before I can get a code reading off of it. Meaning they «wiped my whole computer». Thanks so much, jerkfaces.
Ackerman said they did one of the recalls, but when the other Toyota shop checked, it wasn’t indicated in the main database on line that it was fixed. Did they repair it? Who the hell knows. The other shop redid it and did the other recall without resorting to scare tactic upselling. They also tested the battery and it was fine. They also had the same battery that Ackerman was trying to sell me for $ 125, installed, if I had needed it. Guess who I am going back to? Not Ackerman.

The guy that scheduled my oil change was great, told me about the coupon price and gave me the discount without me even asking for it, and personally introduced me to CJ, the guy who would be working on my car.
Wheel alignment and tire rotation were completed quickly. And they had donuts!

This was my first time buying a car from a dealer, and I’ve heard horror stories about how painful the experience can be. That was far from what I experienced with Ackerman Toyota. The process was quick and painless. I received a very competitive price for the car that I wanted, and had everything wrapped up in record time! It’s an honest dealership that you can trust not to try to pull one over on you. Everyone I encountered while I was there was very helpful. And the great service didn’t disappear when I finished buying the car. Every time I’ve been back since, I’ve been very happy with the experience. I would highly recommend Ackerman to absolutely anyone.

I have only been to Ackerman twice, once to get a part (I will get back to that). The second time was to get my transmission fluid changed. when I brought my car in to be serviced the service technician told me that they would not be able to change the transmission fluid due to a slight miss-​fire and «after market parts. What does either one of these issues have to do with changing transmission fluid on my1995 Toyota??? One of the parts he was referring to was actually purchased through their parts department. After speaking to someone else they encouraged me to go to the Ford dealership up the street, they said they would be glad to change the transmission fluid and schedule another appointment to fix the slight miss-​fire. I guess they are only interested in new car sales and service and don’t want to bother with the older models.. . Ford here we come!

My only experience is with the service side, so this review only pertains to them, but thus far, they have been fantastic. I bought a new Toyota out of town, and needed a local dealership for the toyota care service. I started at a different dealership and wasn’t satisfied with the service and length of wait, so I switched. I have come to Ackerman every 5k miles for my tuneups. They are super friendly and prompt. Although 95% of my visits have been for scheduled maintenance. I did have to come in because I got a nail in my tire– they patched it quickly and the price was reasonable. So far they are 5 star for service!

They didn’t try to sell me anything besides a tire rotation when I came in for oil changes in the past 1.5 years. What a pleasant surprise!

This is the only place I will let work on my car. I even had it towed down here from Bridgeton when it was involved in an accident. Ask for Big Daddy to work on your car. He does a great job! (And he will think its funny that somone he doesnt know is asking for him by his nickname)

I’ve been going here for a while prior to selling my old car to this place.
The repairs/​shop has good service, friendly people, and they show you your parts and let you know what’s wrong with it. That’s all good and fantastic. I highly recommend this place for genuine toyota parts for toyotas.
however, i’m not overly fond of the dealership side of this business. I was selling my first car because it got into an accident and I couldn’t afford to fix it and my parents told me it wasn’t really worth it to fix. That’s pretty upsetting. One of the salesmen told me it’s just a car. they come and go. There was very little sympathy. I did not appreciate that.
I had another salesman who was a bit too cars-​sales-​man like… if that makes any sense. he said things like, i’m working for you and i felt him schmoozing me. i ended up not loving the toyota camry and not loving the dealership.
i will say, however, that they are decent people. i had forgotten my plates so i asked them to take it off my old car for me. they were willing to comply AND they even grabbed my garage clicker out of my old car for me.
All in all, this is an ok dealership but I wasn’t impressed.

I have been taking my ’08 Scion TC here since I bought it (from another Toyota dealership) in January and my services have always been great! I will only go here for oil changes, especially after a terrible service experience at a Jiffy Lube a few weeks ago. These guys are always friendly, quick, and honest in recommending only the services you need, and without trying to convince you to buy a more expensive oil. The pricing is comparable to the quick change spots, and small services like oil changes, tire rotation, and tire patching, do not require an appointment. The employees are very professional and I always feels good about my car when I leave, no nagging «I wonder what they actually did» feeling.

DO NOT BUY FROM ACKERMAN
In Jan 2012 I purchased a 2001 Corolla. In August 2012 I was driving and the engine underwent complete failure in which a rod went through the engine block, despite my having regularly maintained it and changing the oil every 3 months. Guess it was just bad luck, it sucked but these things happen. We called Ackerman to let them know they sold me a defective car and they told us they’d give us a «great deal». That deal ended up being a whopping $ 400.00 off a new vehicle. Well I was in need a of a car to go to work, so we ended up purchasing a 2009 Corolla along with a 100k mile Toyota certified warranty this time. That winter my car started rattling when it started up, which turned out to be a known issue covered by the warranty in the 2009 models called «T-SB-0087−09».
Took it to Ackerman and they were unable to hear the noise, even going so far as asking me to come down to their shop at 7am to turn the car on for them. My boyfriend works on cars and actually called them to yell at them for making a chick come tell their mechanics how to do their jobs. The mechanic actually told me «engines just sound different». After a couple weeks of them keeping me car and not even reading the TSB/​watching the videos of the TSB we gave up and took it to Seeger Toyota. Not only did Seeger identify the TSB problem right away, they overnighted the part and had my car fixed in less than 48hours AND it was covered by the warranty.
Please, please, save yourself the BS and do NOT give Ackerman your $ for any reason.

Went here for an oil change and the service was great! During Saturdays they are open from 8:00 — 2:00 and appointments are not necessary, just first come first serve.
The people who work here are pretty friendly and nice. They know how to treat their customers right so I will definitely be coming back here for car maintenance.
Maybe the only issue is that the waiting room is a little small and can get really crowded. Waiting time was a little long too but understandable especially for a Saturday.

They sometimes send coupons for sevices, but not as frequently or with such great bargain as other dealers – both Toyota and not – will send.
Also, buying a car here for a great price is almost impossible. No matter how well you negotiate, they insist on giving you markups. Sorry but I’m not paying more than MSRP for a car.
On the plus side, they do have quick service when needed, and they have a large lot of cars.

One of the worst visits to get my car fixed. Ever.
I called this place last week to get my car fixed when I had a recall noticed delivered to me. I called them hoping to get a weekend appointment. I was advised that they only had a skeleton crew on the weekend and I was advised to make a weekday appointment. Ho boy, that was a mistake.
I walked into the lot and there were no parking spots available to park my car. I managed to find a spot next to the building and I asked if I could leave my car there. So, I walk into the waiting area and it was packed full of people. The guy on the phone advised me this was supposed to be a quick «in and out», but I waited almost 3 hours to get everything done.
What was worse, was that after he was finished, he had me walk into the shop and have me look at the car and told me that I needed almost $ 900 worth of repairs to the car.
I told him that I didn’t have that kind of cash. He told me that the alignment was off, the wipers needed to be replaced, the water pump needed to be fixed, among other things. Not so, the wipers work fine and my alignment was fixed last year.
After I told him what I could afford, he left me with a note of what needed to be fixed. Someone needs to tell him how to write properly, because I couldn’t read what he wrote: all he wrote down was chicken scratch, nothing that looks like a decent attempt at penmanship.
I would recommend this place for a new vehicle purchase, but I wouldn’t recommend this establishment for maintenance and repairs. Look somewhere else for that.

If you’re in the city and need a Toyota this is the place

Took my car here to get state inspections done and an oil change. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, and did not have to wait a super long time. The price for an oil change was also very fair and they did not try to add on anything I did not need. The waiting room was decorated for Christmas and was very cute. They have ample magazines to read while you wait, bathrooms, free coffee, and a TV, plus stuff for kids to do while you wait. Not sure what their sales dept. is like, but service dept. was great. If I end up getting a Toyota one day, I’d gladly take it here for other services/​maintenance.

I have never had a vehicle serviced at the dealer before for two simple reasons. They tend to cost a bit more, and they try to sell you services that you don’t need. This is so not the case with the service department at Ackerman Toyota.
When I first bought a vehicle from Ackerman, there happened to be a side marker bulb out on the car. Odd I know, but I suppose it happens from time to time. I pointed this out before we signed the papers, and as I expected they sent it straight over to service for a replacement before we left the lot. It was what I observed while in the waiting room in the service department that has made me a loyal customer. I watched as someone came out of the shop and walked up to two different customers and started explaining the diagnosis of the customers vehicle to them. This is the part that blew me away. Rather than going in for the kill and trying to tack on additional services that day, they told the customer while looking at X, we noticed Y. This isn’t a safety concern or anything that will leave you stranded, but maybe in a few months you’ll need to take care of it.
How awesome is that? I don’t know about you, but I sure don’t plan for auto repairs. It sure helps to know a couple months out that something is getting worn. I was very impressed with the integrity of these guys.
The reason for my most recent visit was a standard oil change, and a safety inspection. There were a couple things that caused the car to fail inspection. They came and got me from the waiting room, took me into the shop and showed me what the issues were, and explained how the things they were telling me worked. I already knew the mechanics of how my brakes work, etc, but I let them tell me all the same, just to see if I could detect any BS. It’s what I do for a living. I detected none, and appreciated that they showed me these things before just telling me that I needed these repairs. Aside from the safety inspection, they noticed that my front tires were beginning to wear on the inside, (Which they were, no doubt about that) and suggested that I get an alignment done while it was in the shop so I could get as many miles out of my tires as possible and avoid having to prematurely replace them. Again, the shop sells tires. Integrity. The tires on my car happen to retail for around $ 150 each. So a set of tires would have been more lucrative for them than a simple alignment.
I could go on and on about these guys, but you get the point.

I bought my Prius here and the salesguy was great. Explained everything, friendly, etc. I would buy a car from here again so thats why the three stars. But I can’t say the same for the service dept. I have the free oil changes for a year so I’ve been coming her. The waiting room is kinda dingy, the service team isn’t the friendliest and when I got in my car the last time, my car smelled like it belonged to a smoker and I don’t smoke. I had to drive to work with my windows down, it smelled so bad. I’ll be trying a different toyota dealership for my next oil change.
