Vacationing in N.Y. from L.A., we heard about Sudsy’s Bagels and had to try it. Short story is… they did not disappoint, highly recommended! Long story… my wife, son and I were visiting family on Staten Island while in N.Y. From Time Square, we took the subway to the fairy, onto another train and got off at Pleasant Plains station(I believe that’s the name). Sudsy’s Bagels is right across the station, on Amboy Road, can’t miss it. They have an extensive menu and everything looked good. We went with the house recommendation to try the French Toast bagel… awesome… never had any bagel like it! I like it toasted with a little butter. Another house recommendation we also tried was the«Diesel,» a generous roast beef sandwhich, accompanied with their gravy fries… YUMMM-OH!!! This was one of our most memorable places to eat. It’s too bad they don’t have a bagel house here in L.A. I highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the Staten Island area, and N.Y. for that matter. We’ll be back on our next N.Y. trip, hopefully soon. I see they’ve also opened a 2nd store. They must be doing something right!

This place used to be «Hole Lot of Bagels,» which was dark and dingy. The woman behind the counter always looked stressed out and kinda sweaty. Now, this bagel place is owned by Sudsy Monchik.(A professional racquetball player owning a bagel shop? Why not!) It’s finally bright and clean inside.(And out, come to think of it. There’s a new awning, fresh paint, and big, clean windows.) There’s even a seating area! With a large TV tuned in to CNN. The coffee here is good. The bagel sandwiches are better. The bagels are big and chewy. The«everything» bagel comes with the seasoning on both sides(unheard of!) with gigantic granules of salt. The saltiness goes very well with the fried egg, which is not overwhelming.(There’s nothing I hate more than a mouthful of egg. Eugh.) The cheese is sharp and tasty. The sausage is hot and meaty. Signs at the counter boast homemade cream cheeses… but I’ve yet to try them. [Added(6÷13÷08): I tried their cinnamon-raisin bagel(which looked too beautiful too eat) with maple cream cheese at the suggestion of Sudsy himself. It was divine. Highly, highly recommended.] The staff members behind the counter seem nice enough. They’ll even bring your food to you if you’re planning on eating in! Yay. They have a tiny parking area in the rear(as well as 2-hour street parking), an ATM on premises… and no cigarettes for sale.(That’s what the SI Advance says, anyway. I don’t smoke so I’ve never even noticed.)
