Best Western Plus Sterling Inn

I know it’s unusual to have a hotel room so close to home, but I had to start working at a conference at 5:30 in the morning, so they booked a room for me (or I would have driven home at 11:30 and gotten up at 4.30 to drive back). It’s an average hotel room in a suburban area. It’s not fabulous, it’s not awful. Front desk was really slow and seemed confused. Bed and bath were clean, carpets were clean. What more can you ask for?

They finally made some changes Vickie was very unprofessional she scream at her employees, and talk down to them, but they finally got her out and hopefully the employees and the business do well.

Its horrible place. This place is sucks. When i go into my room. The room was not clean and its all mess. The last customer’s eye contact is still all over the bathroom counter. And i ask for another room. They said they dont have it now but they will someone to clean it up. I wait for 3 hrs nobody ever come and clean it. I call the front desk 5 times never pick it up. So i went downstairs ask for room service and new blanket. It took them another 2 hrs which nobody ever come. At midnight somebody knocked door and give us 2 big curtains for blanket. What is that. Its terrible place.

Run away! Horrible place. Worked with them for 10 months planning my wedding which was held May 16^th. We got a decent refund for all the things messed up so much!!! No appetizers served during cocktail hour, champagne toast was poured 30 mins after the toast, ran out of 2 of 3 meat dishes and took forever to refill other stuff, gave 1 of the 2 kegs away to another wedding since they didn’t order enough, servers were rude and head server was screaming at my husband and I, chef lied and said he had more meat brought out which was not true, dirty dishes were left stacked on guest tables all evening, started dinner 30 – 40 minutes late, woman running the room told my mom the mother of the bride to calm down and go to her hotel room! This was such a let down since I thought they would have their act together. Wedding planner is so nice until things go wrong then is rude and wouldn’t talk to us during reception.

I can’t tell you how much horribleness my family and I experienced here and we will never stay here again. First of all the check in was ridiculous, I was told they didn’t have a room available with a refrigerator, which I requested when I made the reservations months before. I requested a room with queen size bed and an extra sleeper sofa, which we did not get. Also, I said I was going to need a pack n play and they said they only had one, thankfully the friend I was visiting could find one from her friends I could borrow. They found a room (a newly renovated one) we could stay in that a refrigerator and not just a chiller and by that time we were so tired we just went to sleep. Well the next day it became worse, there were wires hanging out of the walls that my 10 month old son found and was about to suck on them. The bathroom door handle fell off in my husband’s hand when opening the door and when we told housekeeping they said maintenance wasn’t in that day so it couldn’t be fixed yet. The bed skirt was disgusting and we found a dirty plate under the chair in the room. I took a shower the first day and we had a shower curtain but when I went to take one the following evening, we had no shower curtain. The few staff members that were accommodating and friendly unfortunately could not make up for the disgustingness of the room and unprofessional attitude of the rest of the staff. I would never recommend any one to stay here and I would tell them to book somewhere else. I would have changed hotels but unfortunately my friend’s wedding reception was being held at this place and wasn’t feasible to leave, but don’t worry I will never be back.

Very comfy rooms. very friendly staff. water park is nice. this place would be absolutely perfect if the water was a bit warmer. I wish they would raise the price $ 15/​night and heat the water 10degrees more. other than that, it’s a great family experience!

After years of staying at the Georgian East in Roseville, I decided to give this place a try. For me, in spite of the other reviews, I give it four stars. Likes: Clean room, comfortable mattress, polite desk clerk, high quality Toto toilet, seemingly safe parking. Dislikes: Low shower head means you duck down in shower, Toto toilet could flush down a dead cat, but the flush button was very hard to push, so much so, I bet few elderly women could flush this toilet without a rubber mallet.
I also don’t like the coffee maker supplied in the room. I like to bring my own coffee pods, but this rinky dink machine uses pods the size of a tea bag.
I plan to stay here on my next Detroit visit and hope I have no reason to lower my review. I seem to be about the only fan so far on Unilocal,which I don’t understand.

Go elsewhere, if you have an option!
The water park is merely a fancy pool filled w/​frigid water that has a lazy river with a vortex in it and a water slide on one end of it. There are areas intended for little kids to play in, but all of the kids stayed in the special kiddie pool bec it was slightly warmer than the bigger one. The lifeguards are the WORST!!! They are constantly blowing referee whistles for the most minor of infractions! Get a few feet ahead of your friends in the lazy river and try to stop and wait, or worse yet go against the flow even just 3 feet, and you’re gonna get reprimanded! Go any faster than a walk in the pool area and that infraction will get you a whistle! Go under the floating rope dividing the slide landing area into the main part of the pool? Infraction! Oh, yeah! Every 2 hrs they shut down the whole «water park» for a 15 minute chemical check during which no one can go in the pool! The lifeguards were very rude and could care less about my concerns when I complained that they still hadn’t opened the waterslide because one of them «had» to go on break. Right then. Not later. Now. So, fine. I talked to the head lifeguard and voiced my concerns regarding the poor customer service and complete disregard for customer satisfaction and he said that he would address this w/​the other lifeguards, but I very seriously doubt anything was done about this. I’m filing a complaint with the hotel management directly because of this.
The room itself wasn’t the nicest room I’d ever stayed in. Fortunately, I didn’t see any of the bed bugs that other people had mentioned in their reviews, but that didn’t mean that the place didn’t look out-​dated and dingy.
Jason & Mary at the front desk were about as nice as could be expected. No complaints there.
The facilities for the wedding I was there to attend were sufficient, but not extravagant. The food was pretty decent, but I’m not sure if they had an outside caterer come in or not. Food service seemed to take forever. Dirty dishes and drink glasses were left on the table faaaar longer than should have been. Ugh.
If you have the option to go elsewhere, do so! If you’ve got s.o. else’s wedding to go to here, just don’t expect a Four Bears-​style water park and luxurious accommodations!

This place is disgusting. We booked the room based off what we saw online. None of us were prepared for just a dirty place. The rooms looked like they haven’t been cleaned since 1970. The indoor water park (which was the only reason we went) was a ghetto pool. We didn’t even stay. We asked for a refund and went right home to our own clean pool. I can’t even believe this place is in business. Terrible!

On vacation from NYC, to visit friends, we opted to stay here because of the water park. The kids went straight for the water park which is really just a glorified pool. The pool had so much chlorine my 6 year Olds’ eyes were burning Red after an hour. I never went into the pool but just sat in the area and my eyes and nose were burning. I went to the room to get settled in. They over powered the room with a spray that smells like windex, to mask the smell of musty mildew. Furniture was dirty looking, carpet as well probably from wet feet from the pool. I went to the bathroom and found a pubic hair on the toilet seat, that was enough for me to go to the front desk. The young lady was very accommodating in trying to get me another room, but I was done. This is my first negative post ever, and I will never return here or any Best Western period.

Dirty, dingy, ugly, small rooms, crowded and overpriced. $ 150/​night for one of the smallest hotel rooms I’ve ever seen. The bedding and couch were old, ratty and dingy. TownePlace was right down the road; Marriott properties are consistent. Best Western are not. This is on the bad side of the inconsistency spectrum.

This place is huge and the rooms are adequate in size but something just give this place the feeling of being dirty. I think it’s the cheapness of the little things like carpet paint and moldings. The biggest attraction is clearly the indoor water park. It’s pretty large with a big slide and a lazy river. There is also a second pool for smaller kids that’s quieter and not quiet as busy. The water is somewhat lukewarm but clean. The only problem is not quite enough seats. There are also two hot tubs. So while the pool is nice overall I don’t think I would come back here.

We went to this hotel because of the water park. The water was cold and so was the air. When my kids would go from pool to pool walking at a fast pace the pool manager would scream in their faces to WALK !! At one point he followed them closely to scream in their faces walk or I will kick you out of the water park. I don’t think he was even doing a good job lifeguarding because he was too busy following the kids around the pool screaming in their faces. He made me so uncomfortable we left early. Maybe he should spend more time mopping up the water so the kids wouldn’t slip rather than screaming in their faces.

Brides beware! Do not book this venue for your special day! I attended a wedding last weekend, and it was so lousy. All of the crap was because of the Sterling Inn! Let me start by saying the Christmas decorations were obviously done by a blind person. See photos I’ve posted of the Christmas trees missing half of the lights, not fluffed and ornaments done half way. Even the tree in the main area looked pathetic. Pathetic seemed to be the word of the night used to describe the staff, facilities and food. Eat before you attend an event here. Yes, the food is THAT bad! There was a gob of dark hair in our table’s pot of what appeared to be some horrible version of italian wedding soup. We asked for a new pot (it was family style) but I think the server had to go hunt the chickens for the broth because it was about 25 minutes before we received it. Needless to say nobody ate it. Hair in food is so disgusting! Let’s move on to the main course. The chicken was chewy and the roast beef looked like they went to Arby’s and plopped the beef from the roast beef sandwiches on the plate. Yes, it was in gobs. Not very appetizing. The best part about the dinner was the mashed potatoes and even those were mediocre at best. Sad but true, the service didn’t even compare to the food. It was AWFUL! At one point, there were exactly 48 empty glasses on our table along with dinner plates because the servers disappeared into the back instead of clearing glasses and plates. I should also add that there was this one 40ish African American large woman who must’ve been the head server. She was so rude and was screaming at what appeared to be a new hire. This all took place in front of wedding guests. I was so embarrassed for this woman. She was the most unprofessional server ever… not even suited to work a drive through let alone a wedding. Little did she know, the new kid was actually the only one who was working and was professional.
Don’t let the Sterling Inn ruin your special day.
Overall, the venue looks tired, the food is disgusting and the staff is rude and unprofessional. There is serious work to be done to bring this place up to par.

The rooms were not bad, the toilet seat was completely loose and had scotch tape on it and ready to fall of don’t know how the cleaners didn’t notice when they «cleaned it «the water park was fun but not fantastic. The checkin girl was great but the night clerk that sold me the $ 2.50 yohoo for my kid was very unhappy and nasty. The waterpark pizza was goo but the fries were terrible. The area it’s located in is disgusting and makes me glad I brought my gun with me and I grew up in the ghettos in philly.

We had our reception in 2010 here and we loved it. The wedding planner Jennifer is amazing.

This is the kind of hotel that scares people off of Priceline. I recently stayed here for two nights after reducing my star rating on Priceline from 3.5 to 3. When I checked in, the staff at the front desk were helpful and friendly. The lobby was clean. No problem, I thought.
Then I asked for a quiet room. They gave me a room in a quiet wing of the hotel. The room’s size was adequate, but much of the room looked as if it hadn’t been updated since the 80’s. The carpet was worn, the sofa lumpy and uncomfortable. The mattress, however, was fine. And the TV, the most important appliance to the business traveler after wireless, didn’t work until someone from the hotel came up to jiggle some wires.
Speaking of wires, did I tell you that when I went to plug in my laptop that all of the outlets were loose? They had outlet covers, but I’m assuming that the electrician was either incompetent of lazy. I thought it was a better idea to run down my battery instead.
So while there’s nothing alarming about my stay: no hookers in the hallway, no roaches, no bedbugs … this is one drab, dirty and broken down hotel. Its location across from the Chrysler stamping plant is appropriate. Just as Chrysler needed the Italian Stallions from Fiat to save it, this hotel needs some kind of angel to come and clean it up before it decays a little more and turns into a giant crack house with flat screen TVs.
Again, if you’re using Priceline, be careful if you’re selecting Sterling Heights/​Warren. This dump is a three-​star hotel according to Priceline, so you’ll want to stick to 3.5 stars or above.

Hallways were HOT, there is NO A/​C in the Hall! The rooms were quite stuffy as well. Didn’t look as though the sheets had been changed… Oh well, you pay for cheap; you get cheap. Food was OK tho!
